DME: Applying Skill Challenge Errata

I've gotten into the habit of applying the skill challenge errata to LFR skill challenges which clearly haven't had the errata applied. This means the maximum number of failures is always three, and the difficulties tend to be scaled back by about 5 (sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less).

I do this for two reasons: first, I think it enables more participation in the skill challenges, since players who haven't maxed out or in some cases even trained a given skill can give it a shot without needing to roll a 20. Second, it's official errata and all. I've been letting my players know about this at the beginning of a module, and so far it's spread the rolls out among the table in a way that at least pleases me.

Any thoughts on this from more experienced LFR DMs?

When writing a mod authors are now supposed to use the errata. So, I believe that it is a good idea to change the skill challenges. I do think it is a good idea to do this.

Just remember, that sometimes authors change the DCs of a particular skill check on purpose. So be carefull with blindly downgrading the DCs, especially if it appears to need more or less then a downgrade of 5. The errata should have been applied already to all adventures at XXXX1-3 and beyond, although us being human, we might have missed some. Of course, remember that virtually all skill challenges in the adventures gives the DM a framework to work with. They will need to add their own details, work with the PCs' actions and try to make it appear logical. So, just because a skill challenge allows Perception to avoid a trap and Athletics to avoid guards, do not suddenly place a trap because the PCs used Perception or a canyon because they used Athletics. Try to make it logical - see various other discussions on this subject at other places on these boards ;)
