| #1AlphastreamApr 30, 2010 19:03:15 | I played EAST1-6 last night with a table of players that were all playing it for the first time. We really enjoyed it. We had a strong table and yet enjoyed the combats on all levels (challenge, design, creatures, etc.). We liked the story of it as well. Most of all, we liked that this was the East Rift as it should be: underground, with expected foes, with cool atmosphere, with what felt like high stakes. Spoilers for EAST1-6: We found the hook to be ok. A number of us had worked with the salvage company, though I don't think any of us think of that organization as having NPCs we really connect with or having a purpose we connect with. Salvage, meh. The two of us with PCs from the East Rift really want to help Eartheart itself, not some salvage company. But, that's the hook. Off we go into the underdark. (We were all really happy that this was a below-ground adventure). The trip was cool, though I always wish there was more description of the underdark. I think having encounters (especially paragon ones) in more fantastic/descriptive/evocative underdark locales would be better. Seas of stalagmites, amazingly huge underground caverns with veined rock, areas glittering with moss, fungi caverns, etc. The first fight was pretty fun. We liked the conditions and the foes and had a good time with the battle and the poor dwarf. The discussion with the survivors of LB4-26 went well. We found the options a bit limiting, but some of that may be assumptions on our part... ok, I checked the mod and it was our assumption, so no issue there. We had a good time with the RP (especially my dwarf and the East Rift gnome). The final battle was pretty fun. It was a bit dissapointing to lose the big guy, but if he comes back it will be pretty cool. Overall, we took it well and still enjoyed the challenge. |
