Hi.
I´m starting a campaign using the LFR adventures , and it´s centered in the Sea of FallenStars.
I´ll be puting my Adventurers working for a Trader/Patrol Boat of a a recently (and yet secret society) working in the Sea trying to discover (and fight back if necessary ) more of the Abolethic Sovereignty.
Since it will be an ongoing campaign starting from PC level 1 , they´ll have to work their way around the coast searching for answers and doing the adventures of the place where they´ll stop.
What i need , is the help of all of you more experienced ones in establishing a "timetable" for their journey by boat (big trading ship who in reality is a warship in disguise). I don´t have all that experience in calculating the days it might take to the journey. I only want a rough expectation ( ex: one week from New Sarshel to Veltalar!? ).
My campaign starts in Impiltur ( i wanted to start in my region on the LFR ,Portugal) and they´ll be doing a clockwise journey thru : IMpiltur , Thesk ( Core1-2) ,Aglarond, Tymanther , Akanul , Dragon Coast , Sembia (Core 1-1) , Dale, Impiltur.

Thanx in advance for your help.

The Faerun poster maps are drawn at 120 miles per inch on the map.

So:

IMpiltur to Thesk ( Core1-2) depends upon what exact starting & ending points, but say 120 miles by sea from Lyrabar to Telflamm, and then maybe 180 miles by road to the village.

Thesk to Aglarond - retrace overland travel, then 150 miles by sea to Veltalar.

Aglarond to Tymanther as the crow flies maybe 600 miles

Tymanther to Akanul maybe 500 miles as the crow flies,

Akanul to Dragon Coast maybe 560 miles to Westgate ,

Dragon Coast to Sembia (Core 1-1) maybe 150 miles,

Sembia to Dalelands maybe 150 miles,

Dalelands to Impiltur maybe 400 miles.

gp to the PHB, page 261. Walking overland, speed 6 is 35 miles a day. Sailing ship is 84 miles a day.

So IMpiltur to Thesk ( Core1-2) is maybe a day and half by sailing ship, and 5 days of walking. YMMV (pun intended).

Thanxs for the help, i was starting to think no one knew how to answer me.

What you said corroborates with what i already guessed.

I confess i didn´t see that on the PHB , although i searched for it, but now i won´t forget.

But here´s the math of what i did.

1mile=1,609km (more or less)
120miles=193,08km (more or less)

With that in mind , i transported the map of Faerun unto Autocad , and scaled it so as to be able to measure in the Map ,and now i can measure at any time , any kind of distance , and not only as the crow flies , but as the Horse rides or has the Boat navigates.

Cool , hem ?! ( if anyone need any help in measuring a distance between places i´ll be glad to help ).

Next step was to calculate (before knowing about the rule in PHB) the speed of the Ship I was thinking of, wich was a a kind of Galleon (like the Spanish ones from the 16/17/18th Century), and the speed was of 8 knots.

1knot=1,852km/h
Galleon Speed 8 knots = 15 km/h

So , after measuring the distance it took a boat to sail from New Sarchel to a place near Phent ( 310 km ) i calculated it would take around 21 hours for the journey.

I know this might seem like a lot of Math to do, but i´m obsessed with details , and my players like it.

So now, after adjusting to the values you gave me , i can do the math for anywhere in Faerun.

Hope this explanation also helps other DM .
