Any updates on the following mods, which are late?

IMPI1-5

BALD1-5

TYMA1-4 and BALD1-5 are late.  No ETA are provided on late adventures by policy decision.  I  recommend not scheduling any late adventure for game play until they become available.

IMPI1-5 and CORM1-5 should be available as they were distributed to the admins.  If they are NOT in the download library and you have a scheduled event, contact your regional Event Manager for a copy.

Can you give us an idea of WHY they are delayed?  I'm not too worried about BALD1-5 (although the BALD series does have one precedent for being extremely late), but it's been almost an entire quarter since TYMA1-4 was supposed to be out.  I'd heard about a month and a half ago that it would be out "soonish."  Obviously not.  So...?

I cannot comment on why.  That is up to Sean Molley, the Global Admin for those two adventures, to decide if any information on why they are late can and should be released.

Our general policy is not to talk about why late adventures are late.  In the end, does it really matter what the reason is?  They're late, which means we've failed to meet the expectations we established when we published the release schedule.  Having a "good reason" for them being late (assuming there is such a thing) isn't going to make them any less late.

I can assure you that we haven't forgotten about these adventures, and we are working to get them released as quickly as we can.  I've addressed various aspects of this question in other threads. We have to work pretty far ahead, so once an adventure falls out of its place in line (for whatever reason), it's hard to get back to that adventure because the folks involved (writing directors, global admins, HQ) have to keep up with all the other adventures that didn't fall out of line.  The number of places where something can be delayed is equal to the number of places where there are human beings who need to work on it.

For example, we will be releasing about 30 new adventures in Q4 2009.  That is 2-3 new adventures to be released every week.  The schedule is packed; everyone involved, from authors to writing directors to global admins to HQ reviewers, is looking at new adventures *constantly*.  Adventure X being late and everyone wanting us to get it released isn't (in my opinion) a good enough reason to penalize adventures Y and Z that came in on time.

Once something has gotten off track, it's better (in aggregate) to have that adventure be really late than to have every subsequent adventure be moderately late.  I acknowledge that this does make it hard for us to catch up; we somehow have to find the time to double up on our workload long enough to get those late adventures out the door in addition to the non-late adventures. That is an especially big challenge for things that become late during the time period that includes Comic Con, Origins, Gen Con, and PAX because those shows (which have an official WotC presence) already create a huge amount of additional work and they are so close together.  DDXP also creates a huge amount of work but it is much more isolated in terms of where it falls on the calendar.

Of course there comes a point when a particular adventure is SO late as to cause people to question its very existence.  We do not have any LFR adventures whose existence should be questioned.

The more frustrating aspects of this system are (a) the only way to know when an adventure has actually been released is to log in and check what modules are available for sanctioning, and (b) if an adventure doesn't show up, it's impossible to know if this is deliberate, or the web guys just screwed up but no one is able to point this out because they don't know the adventure should be up (as allegedly happened with IMPI1-5 not going up immediately and CORE1-14 only going up for public play at first).

Both of these things could easily be fixed by using one of the many announcement methods available (a stickied forum post, a blog, the LFR wiki) to let us know when an adventure is (or should be) actually released.

Is CORM1-5 (which was scheduled to be out two weeks ago) late, or was it released five minutes ago and I didn't notice, or was it supposed to be up on time but no one's noticed that it's not actually in the system?  We have no idea, and there's really no reason that should be the case.

And, sure, you could make the argument that spending time updating players on schedule changes just eats up time that could be better spent on catching up, but I'd expect that reading or responding to the numerous "Hey, where's my module?" posts probably take more time than would a simple Wiki listing when adventures are released.

I agree with you -- we really need to be using a better notification method than "log in to the ordering system and see whether or not you can order the adventure you're looking for."

I am very hopeful that we will be able to start using some of the features of this new Community site to provide better information about these kinds of issues.  (As another example, I would also like us to document when we make changes to adventures that have already been released.)

I just want to say thank you (in aggregate) for all of the work you guys do to support the Living campaign.  It really does sound like a tremendous amount of work and I certainly appreciate it.

I would think that the Calendar would be the ideal way to track adventure releases.  In general it seems like updates are pretty rare, so a post on the LFR Group page would probably suffice there.

I've been trying to get a good list of adventures on that group's wiki page, that could also be used by anyone who notices that there is a new adventure out to provide a quick reference, too.

The thought occurs to me that maybe some announcement might be incorporated into the adventure list, either on the LFR group wiki, or on the individual regional group wikis.  Usually if it is a matter of it was just not loaded into the RPGA library, then the admins have already gotten their copy, and that might be an indicator.  If we don't have our copy by the date, then something more may have broken down.  Not sure if this is really useful though.

it would be really cool to have one place to go to see everything you need to know about adventures.

  • See all the adventures and read the blurbs

  • See all the ones for a region

  • See all the ones by story arcs

  • See all the ones for a certain level

  • See which ones are released vs. new vs. revised vs. pending

  • Etc.

For those involved, CORE1-14 is still the pre-errata version. Frown

I've been working on it!  Shouldn't be too hard to copy/paste the master list off to the regional group's wikis, or making new pages on the main group's wiki.
