LFR treasure bundle wish list

Following up on this thread, I am not particularly impressed with the treasure distribution in many LFR modules. It feels like many items show up over and over for no particular reason while many interesting items never show at all. There is no feel of coordination or intent in what shows up, just whatever catches the writer's or editor's fancy at the time.

So, I am going to start a list of stuff I (and others) would like to see. I figure that as long as random stuff is going to show up in adventures, it may as well be the random stuff that people want. Hopefully, some of the adventure authors and editors will turn to this list the next time they are stumped for something to reward the players with.

If you would like an item added, just reply and make sure that you include the name, category (neck, weapon, implement...), level and source. I'm not going to add anything that I know already show up in an adventure and I don't plan on listing where particular items can be found. This list is not about cherry picking items for characters so much as it is about a greater total diversity of items.

The List
Armor
Veteran's Armor (any) +1 (level 2), +2 (level 7); AV
Fortification Armor (scale, plate) +2 (level 9); AV

Weapons
Jagged Weapon (Axe, Heavy Blade, Light Blade) +3 (level 11); AV
Sunblade (heavy blade) +2 (level 9); AV

Holy Symbols
Symbol of Divine Reach (Implement) +2 (level 8); AV
Symbol of Power (Implement) +2 (level 7); PH

Staffs
Staff of Elemental Prowess (Implement) +2 (level 9), +3 (level 14); AV
Staff of Ruin (Implement) +2 (level 8), +3 (level 13); AV

Companion
Sigil of Companionship (level 6); AV

Wondrous Items
Battle Standard of Healing (Battle Standard) (level 3); AV

Staff of Elemental Prowess (Staff) +2 (level 9), +3 (level 14) AV

Why? Why not a Staff of Ruin (Staff) +2 (level 8), +3 (level 13).

Is is the Staff of Elemental Prowess with fewer restrictions and a better bonus. And a better magic critical. And a lower level. The item power of the Staff of Elemental Prowess is okay, but the property of the Staff of Ruin is just too good.

I hope that they put Battle Standards of Healing (level 3). But only because they are great fun, but then again, they are only 680 gp (and totally worth more than that). I want a second (and maybe a third) one on my warlord! 11x11 is not enough coverage!

Because the Elemental staff is the one that caught my attention. They are both fun. In a perfect world, they would both show up at least once or twice. This is all about variety. At higher levels, it would be neat if different characters had radically different equipment simply because there was so much variety and uniqueness to the items offered in each adventure. If most items only show u once or twice in modules, it will make for a more interesting world.

Also, don't bother posting an item if you can not include all the information for the list. I have neither the time nor the inclination to hunt down everything myself. Anything complete will be added, anything not will likely not.

Emphasis mine, but it is something to bear in mind.

I second the staff of ruin especialy the +2 one thats perfectly appropriate for a 4-7 mod, and I would add +2/3 blood claw weapons.

Second on the Sunblade. I went all the way to level seven hoping for one before I took my flaming +2 weapon, just because I was falling behind in my ability to lay down my Warlord smack because I couldn't hit anything! :P

I know this will never happen, but what I'd actually like to see with LFR treasure bundles is something like the following:

Bundle A: any weapon of level 4 or lower
Bundle B: any armor of level 5 or lower
Bundle C: any implement of level 3 or lower
Bundle D: any neck-slot item of level 3 or lower

Like I said, it'll never happen, but a man can dream!

No kidding. It seems like everyone in Faerun must have a closet full of flaming weapons and holy symbols of battle.

Delver's Armor +1, get 'em while they're... wait, this armor kind of sucks, doesn't it? Maybe if it let you re-roll.... Bah!

I would like to see LFR encorporate some curses and curesed items into the mix somehow, i remember quite the few curses in living greyhawk that were awsome to deal with (they sucked but they made for great stories and role player)

Somehow, I don't see those as being treasure bundles, however, which is what this thread is about.

"...and, Bundle C is a cursed -1 weapon. Anyone want to take that? Anyone? Bueller?"

That said, I suppose it's possible that you could see curses show up as story "awards".

ebon fly

I would veto the Ebon Fly. But only because it has the potential to break modules by granting PCs a way to continuously fly in combat. And that would lead to escalation of modules designed to quickly take out the ebon fly (since it is kind of fragile).

Not to mention that 3D combat (combat that allows some models to be above/below others) are problematic/annoying.

So basically the item would become useless since module writers would have to account for them with a few burst damage options. Suddenly groups WITHOUT Ebon Flies face the situation where the burst damage that was meant to remove problematic magic items now can only be aimed at PCs.

Now if it was the Onyx Horse (or whatever the horse is actually called), I could support it. It is a nice option for PCs that want a mount without the hassle of ferrying it around. But I think it is only a level 5 magic item, so I think many players would rather spend 1000 gp on it instead of a found item slot.

Bear in mind that the 1-1 mods, and I think some of the 1-2s were written before the AV came out, making the treasure selection quite limited. For example, the only level 7 +2 weapon in the PHB is a vicious weapon, isn't it? Owing to the level restrictions, writers won't put in anything higher than level +4 (and those should be rare), so the 1-4s were rather limited. The same logic can be seen in the presence of Lightning weapons and holy symbols of battle.

I expect future mods will have a wider variety of stuff from the AV.

The obsidian steed is available in one of the 1-2 adventures.

Other items on my wishlist:

* Sunblade (heavy blade) +2 or higher (level 9+); AV
* Fortification armor (scale, plate) +2 or higher (level 9+); AV
* (Holy) Symbol of Divine Reach +2 or higher (level 8+); AV
* (Holy) Symbol of Power +2 or higher (level 7+); AV

Can you tell I play a paladin?

And here's an item I never want to see in any adventure:

* Bloodclaw weapon, AV <-- what were they thinking?! seriously, what were they thinking??!!

If it's just for preventing the players from getting an Ebon Fly it actually doesn't make much of a difference whether the Ebon Fly appears in a treasure bundle or not.

With the new access rule anybody can just buy an Ebon Fly at lvl 9 even if it never appears in a treasure bundle. So expect a lot of players getting some option to take flight as soon as possible.

I will definately get a flying mount the very moment I have the right level and the right amount of gp.

Some of the goofy items from Dragon articles. I recall a mug of endless ale or something like that.

It has virtually no use, but I know a few players who would just get a ton of mileage out of something like that. Heck, I know a play who has worked that bag of holding she got like nobody's business. It seems like every other adventure she is filling it with some poor persons entire house and taking her to safety. "Oh please help, I must get out of here to see my uncle and can only take what I can carry" "Ok, we can carry your entire living room and bedroom furniture, but we just can't quite fit your wagon in"

Fun times!

While I appreciate the discussion, I'd like to see more specific items that people are looking to discover in adventures. Ideally, I'd like the list to be viewed as an easy resource for the writers so that there is a decent chance some of it might make it into an adventure. Someone might want to make a 'talk about neat items here' thread for some of this side chatter.

Then pick some that catch your interest an post details to go on the list. In my experience, people are fundamentally lazy. If we have a great big list of stuff that we would like to see my bet is that writers are going to snag stuff of this rather than spend ages reading through books for stuff.

Dwarven Throwers, Hand Slot, Level 10 (AV)

ZOMG! Giant Gloves, Hand Slot, Level 13 (AV). I made a really tall Dragonborn for my friend to use (using the Exarch of Bahamut, so it is like 40% taller than every other medium based mini on the battlemat) who we joke about already being Larger Than Life, and he would probably wet himself at the thought of being able to throw a grabbed enemy once per encounter! Especially if he could throw it at ANOTHER enemy.

Raise your hand if you have a Vicious Weapon +2!

My little barbarian (well, he's a Dragonborn but you get the idea...) picked that up on his first ever LRF scenario (CORM1-1 IIRC). Shame he can't use it for goodness knows how many levels...
