Yes, I have a cleric of Kelemvor, how did you guess?

But seriously, there's been a distinct lack of undead so far in LFR - I've played about 10 scenarios and I think of only two encounters with undead in them -the end encounter in TYMA1-1 (which we skill-challenged anyway) and the one in SPEC1-1.

The whole death thing is a big thing for my character (she generally introduces herself to people with the line "Hello. Have you thought about your death?" and heals people to shouts of "It is not yet your time!", and undead in a scenario would give me even more of an RP opportunity.

Any chance of there being more undead in new LFR scenarios? (or if there are already some extant in LFR scenarios, which ones should I be playing)

This issue was brooched elsewhere (on the mailing list, I think) - and part of the problem, to date, as simply been the level of the mods.

I don't have my MM handy, but I understand there aren't a lot of undead in the bottom half of the Heroic Tier. As levels progress, however, it's likely that we'll see more and more undead start to appear - particularly in the Paragon tier where some of the real nasties hide.

So, be patient, ye worshipper of death.

There are a couple of adventures with undead, but remember that except for skeletons and zombies, undead are more likely to appear at level 4+, although I don't think there is a particular strong presence of undead now or in the near future. There are a couple of adventure available right now which feature the occasional undead (

In the most recent batch of adventures I edited, there were so many undead that I had to make significant changes to keep the same monsters from appearing again and again.

Hang in there, you will get your undead.

And remember, you asked for it! :evillaugh

What did ya think happened to all the ones your party killed? You know that monsters never die, they just become undead and come back again. ;)

Along with all the undead kobold slingers in the multiverse.

Oh no! Ghoulish Bugbear Stranglers!

Man, I am going to "lolz" when we start seeing Wights with their Healing Surge draining attacks. All the arrogant "I finish modules with 6 unused surges" comments are going to disappear.

After the last two mods I ran for our group, there were no comments like that at all. One character was down to 0 surges in each mod, and basically just stayed in the back for the last fight shooting a longbow (and this character is not an archer). Big beefy fighter? 1 surge left.

Wights are a DM's new bestest friend. :D

You might want to try BALD1-2, titled "The Night I Called the Undead Out."

I just found out Dhampyr are going to be in Dragon 371 this would lead one to believe Open Grave is a player resource.

I have a Dragonborn Paladin who worships Kelemvor and is on the verge of hitting 7th so you bet I circled that mod as one to play before the charactor hit's 8th. I'm so looking forward to playing it at high tier and seeing how late this mod is I hope it has item access from Open Grave.

I found this article that's going to be in Dragon 371 and it would lead one to believe Open Grave is a player resource.
//http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/2009

Why would they assume that?

If they've read the rules, they know what's a player resource.

Again, remember that Dragon is a player resource for ALL players - not just the RPGA. There is (I understand) some content in Open Grave (items? Artifacts?) that players can use - just not in the RPGA.

So, just because Dragon Magazine has articles that coincide with new releases, it isn't speak for the RPGA - it's speaking for WotC.

If I'm not mistaken you would gain the undead subtype when becoming a Dhampyr this would qualify PC's for any feats, classes, or powers related to being undead. Your right Open Grave could be declared off limits for PC's but I think it would be foolish to publish a new race that may grant the undead subtype and have no resources to take advantage of being undead.

I see nothing in the article to indicate that taking the Dhampyr Vampiric Heritage feat gives you the undead subtype.

In fact, the Dhampyr Lore section on the last page of the article specifically states that Dhampyr are NOT undead.

No, but it does specifically state that Dhampyrs count as Vampires for the purpose of effects and abilities. Anyone know any Vampire specific stuff out there?

FWIW, a search of the D&DI Compendium with the keyword 'vampire' doesn't turn up anything relevant under Feats, Powers, Classes, or Paragon Paths.

There is one item, Manshoon's Bloodmask (level 30, FRCG) that has an additional benefit if you are a vampire. But I seriously doubt anyone is going to come across that as an LFR treasure bundle.

I would assume you'll have to wait for Open Grave... but as @WolfStar76 said above... it may have a lot of stuff that can't be used, but Magic Items are typically allowed.

I would expect a couple of "vampire only" magic items...

I was also thinking about stuff that targets vampires. How about a magic item that has a daily of X damage to all vampires in close burst 5? Or a Channel Divinity option that targets Vampires? Or a Vampire Lord type monster that can mind-control other Vampires as its minions. I'm thinking that being a Dhampire might not be all fun and games, given the right circumstances.

For maximum enjoyment, schedule extra time when your group runs it. Our experience with BALD1-2 is that is is very good, but quite long. You'll appreciate the journey if you plan on a 6-hour session vs. the recommended 4.

Good gaming!

I thought about that too.

However, as most powers are worded as "all enemy creatures", even if they did extra damage speicifically to a Vampire, Damphyr wouldn't have to worry about damage from their allies... only enemy creatures with +damage to Vampires... which is very a very niche.

They could, of course, be affected by a "all creatures in burst/blast" power, but it is extremely unlikely you would have one of those that specifically singles out Vampires for special treatment.

It's far more likely, that the "counts as a Vampire" ability of the Damphyr is aimed at magical items, rituals and perhaps a feat based ability/power or two from Open Grave.

Well many powers make no distinction between friend or foe if it states Vampires and the friendly charactor counts as a Vampire than it stands to reason the friendly would take damage. But this works both ways if the Vampire casts a ritual that grants improved regeneration to all vampires in a room a Damphyr can take full advantage of it. Good luck trying to kill a Damphyr Warforged Paladin who can auto make death saves, count as both Vampire & Construct, and benefit from the Improved Regen granted by the aforementioned ritual.

Many powers do not make a distinction, I agree...

However, healing/buff powers all identify allied creatures, some have addtional affects is the ally has a specific keyword (such as Vampire) or only affect allied creatures with a specific keyword.

So I think the "Vampire" keyword for Damphyrs is just a nice touch, but will have little actual game effect.

This being the case, a Damphyr will still not be affected by an enemy ability specific to vampires as it will doubtless only affect allies.

Unless someone can quote an example of such a power that affects "all <insert keyword>" in a given effect... I can't seem to find one.

Kelemvor's Judgment (power feat)
All undead within a burst 5 are dealt D12+ Charisma radiant damage
Deathly Shroud (Ritual)
All creatures except for intelligent undead perceive you as undead granting
you the undead keyword all powers and wards that affect undead affect
you as well.
So if the PC casts the ritual and another PC uses the feat he'll deal D12+ Cha damage to an ally.
So a Damphyr who casts the Deathly Shroud Ritual would be both a vampire and undead. Yeah baby charge into a room filled with an Unhollow and soak up the HP the LICH was kind enough to provide HAHAHAHAHA.

So the Death Shroud ritual adds the undead keyword.. fair enough...

Kelemvor's Judgement damages all "undead"... OK

Still ain't going to do anything to a Damphyr (with the Vampire keyword) of course, but it's good to know.

Well, I played BALD1-2 last night.

My cleric got a chance to shine, at last.
