Some of the early mods could use a little more regional flavor. The later mods are much better, but you can never have too much of a good thing, right? And options are always good, so...

Here is the challenge:

  • Pick a mod from the list in the second post below and make a post to this thread. (You can pick an adventure that already has submissions, but it is best to work on ones that don't have submissions) Core mods are fine, as they do take place in the Realms and may have impacts on playable regions.

  • At the top of the post, in bold, place the name and code for the adventure.

  • Below the name and code, in separate Spoiler block titled for each encounter in the module (use the "SBLOCK=place_encounter_name_here" within [ brackets), place any changes you would make to increase the regional feel. We are looking for things that qualify as minor changes under the DME guide, such as the addition of intro text, references to FRPG or FRCG (but not the text of such), allusions to events in sourcebooks, mentions of prior or even future mods to add regional depth, etc.

Please label each encounter by number and name.

You can add as much or as little as you want. You can link to external files, if you would like. You can write it in formal mod format, or just describe the changes.

An example can be seen in the third post in this thread.

Links to any submissions will be placed in the DME Guide sticky, as well as in the second post.

Purpose of the Challenge:

Ideally, DMs can come to this thread prior to running a mod and pick up ideas for increasing the regional flavor of the mod they would like to run.

Example:

AKAN1-1 The Rotting Ruins of Galain

Adventure Background:

Environment and Peoples of Akanul and Airspur
The region of Airspur, as described in the FRCG, is one greatly changed by the Spellplague. Portions of Abeir exchanged places with this region of Faerun. As a result, elemental motes and floating matter are often found throughout the landscape. Airspur is the capital of Akanul and is a jaw-dropping display of floating spires and earthmotes upon which the inhabitants have built their fantastic city. The region is home to the genasi race, who were transported here from their homeland of Shyr in Abeir.
Relations and Politics

Akanul is allied with Aglarond, but relations with Cormyr are strained due to diplomatic relations with dangerous nations such as Netheril. Tymanther and its dragonborn have a historical distrust of Akanul, including periodic skirmishes.

Akanul is a kingdom, ruled by Queen Arathane and four Stewards (one of each element). Her rule is seen favorably by the people, though some groups seek changes in rulership. External threats abound, especially from the abolethi. The Abolethic Sovereignty destroyed the genasi’s first capital, Brassune, which is on the shores of the southern Sea of Falling Stars (just south of Aglarond) and continue to be a threat.

Effect on the Module
The environment should be described throughout the PC’s experience. This should be an iconic experience with a wondrous land changed by the Spellplague and exchanged with the sister-world of Abeir. This may be particularly interesting for dragonborn, tieflings, or those from neighboring regions.

The complex politics are the key reason why Airspur needs help from adventurers. Stretched thin, they turn to the PCs for help in dealing with a minor goblin problem that could, unattended, become a distraction they cannot afford.

The DM will benefit from providing additional information from the FRCG and FRPG. DMs may wish to allow PCs to make the History and Streetwise checks presented on p90 of the FRPG. Pictures in the FRPG may be useful in describing Airspur.

LURU1-1 Slivers of Earlann

Adventure Background

So..

In this adventure, the PCs are expected to meet a member of a decimated adventuring company, who have ended up getting ambushed by orcs at the site of an ancient elven tomb. Hearing the sad tale of the Adventuring Comapny survivor, they head off into the wilderness to recover the bodies. They fight some orcs, then enter the tomb, and there's some defenses and a ghost.

Awesome, Peter!

CORE1-2 The Radiant Vessel of Thesk

(Placeholder. I will work on this one soon).

Background:

The region of Thesk may come as a shock to PCs. The module explains Thesk to some extent, but it can be helpful to either set the tone initially or to provide information early on in the module.

Thesk is a nation that has suffered greatly in recent times. In the past, armies took over vast portions of the region. Currently, the region is under constant threat of invasion from Thay and Szass Tam. Thay's undead forces constantly test the borders. Two Theskian towns were taken over not too long ago.

Thesk has also been a true melting pot, bringing many different humanoids together. Thus, the PCs will find themselves in a town where orcs are treated very differently than in the rest of Faerun. This is old hat for Theskians, and an orc deserves no less trust than any other Theskian.
