I am about to sign up for a local LFR game day for next month but can only attend 1 gaming slot. They have both IMPI1-1 “Alone” and TYMA1-1 “Elder Wisdom” available at the time that I can attend. I’d like to get people’s impressions of these 2 modules, and in particular if anyone has played both, I’d love to hear a comparison.

However, let me add that I do *NOT* want any spoilers. I wouldn’t mind information like the number of skill challenges vs. combat encounters, or overall how hard the modules are but I don’t want to hear about how many Ancient Red Dragons are guarding the entrance to Orcus’s summer palace.

I enjoyed Alone over all more, possibly because our party so royally messed it up. (Yet we did not die despite this....)

The one thing to do in this module is listen and think a bit when the NPCs talk - doing this can avoid messing things up royally. ;)

I think that overall I've found that enjoyment is much more a function of the DM than the module - unless you know the DMs involved ahead of time, one adventure is as good as another in general.

Well I finally got a chance to play both of these. Overall, I liked TYMA 1-1 quite a bit better. In particular I enjoyed the Skill Challenge more. Although I think that the combat in IMPI 1-1 was more tactically challenging.

I enjoyed both as well but Impi1-1 felt more generic to me. Not bad but lacked flavor. Perhaps the briefing and debriefing in Tyma1-1 brought a more regional feel to the mod. Neither was deep on fluff, but Impi1-1 felt a bit light on it.

They are both good mods, but I lean toward TYMA1-1, if only slightly.

If you enjoy plot, play Imp 1-1. Tyma 1-1... largely lacks a plot.

Note that Imp 1-1 is also unusual among LFR mods in that it actually offers your characters the ability to make choices that have an actual impact on the module, though it is not obvious that the options actually exist.

I personally found TYMA1-1 to be a much better and more coherent scenario than IMPL1-1. I wasn't enamoured of the slightly hackneyed way the plot was introduced in IMPL1-1.

I was not fond of the intro to IMP either (and have taken a few steps to mitigate the stupidity of the plot-hook when I run the mod). However, it is one of the few mods that offers your characters an actual choice which impacts the way the module plays out. And it also undeniably has some connective tissue of story between the encounters. Tyma is essentially a series of random encounters with no meaningful player choice involved.
