| #1darth_bingoJul 13, 2010 5:38:59 | In a recent public game, I've heard of folks taking some of the encounters from DnD products (such as Dungeon Delve, Tomb of Horrors, and DDI Dungeon modules) and adapting them to MYRE modules for credit within the LFR setting. I was always perhaps under the false impression that you couldn't do this...anyone care to comment? |
| #2soonerpatJul 13, 2010 8:08:21 | The My Realms adventures all contain this blurb: You cannot “re-skin” an existing adventure with aMy Realms adventure. Your adventure should be aunique experience that might have a location, event, or minor NPC from another adventure tolink it back to the campaign, but shouldn’t takestory or plot elements whole-cloth from anotherofficial adventure. |
| #3lorikaJul 13, 2010 8:26:55 | The My Realms adventures all contain this blurb: Yes, but this blurb has been errata'ed. You cannot reskin existing LFR adventures. It's perfectly legal to run any other published adventure (either exactly as-is or re-skined) as a MYRE adventure. The errata was posted here (community.wizards.com/lfr/go/thread/view...) by Madfox11, one of the LFR Global Admins, so it's official: MYRE:The MYRE contain a reference that you cannot adapt existing adventures. The rule partains to official LFR adventures (including official adaptation), which you cannot use in MYRE. You can adapt other adventures, most notably Dungeon adventures. |
| #4SkerritJul 13, 2010 9:57:43 | Just to clarify I believe we reworked the wording again in the P2 and P3 MYREs which I hope come out this week (assuming all is well with the posting). Basically you can't run an LFR adventure as a MYRE (for example, you can't run WATE2-1 as your next MYRE). You could however run a published WOTC product (say Keep on the Shadowfell) or even an adventure from Dungeon as your next MYRE. |
| #5Dragon9Jul 13, 2010 13:50:22 | In my experience, when doing so it's better to use shorter adventures. The big ones, while they can be fun, have to be run as a series of MYREs and you are restricted to the treasure the MYRE allows, which means that players sometimes scoff at not having some cool item from the adventure available to them. The old 3rd/3.5 edition free adventures Wizards put on their site are usually short enough to make for a decent session. You can find them here. They are otherwise nigh impossible to find through the website. |
| #6darth_bingoJul 13, 2010 15:26:33 | Thanks guys. This answers my original question. I think I wouldn't run a product such as Tomb of Horrors in its entirety as a series of multiple standalone MYRE mods (but it would be fun to do so). That would involve too much commitment on the part of the players. What I might do, however, is use the XP budget for a MYRE and borrow some of the encounter ideas and traps for my own customized version. |
| #7Dragon9Jul 13, 2010 16:37:53 | The ToH that was sent to RPGA members who had their info up to date would be good for runnign as a MYRE. (i.e. not the gient super adventure) You just have to figure out how many MYRE mods the adventure would encompass XP wise in its entirety, then just have people play the mod. When you're done (or they're dead) they record a # of MYRE entries equivalent to what they did. |
| #8MirtekJul 15, 2010 12:59:53 | Can a character play, let's say MYRE 1-1, more than once given that there's a different adventure each time? Or since they have the same code they count as one adventure and thus no other MYRE 1-1 are possible after playing the first MYRE 1-1? Are MYRE 1-1 Bob's Adventure and MYRE 1-1 Jim's Adventure two different adventures or both simply MYRE 1-1? |
| #9tirianmalJul 15, 2010 14:58:35 | I'm fairly sure this is answered in the MYRE doc itself, but yes, you can play multiple MYRE 1-1 ... as long as they are different adventures. |
