We don't track months. The current year is 1480 DR, Year of Deep Waters Drifting.

how do you track it?.

The Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide originally said (p.4):
"The current year is 1479 DR, the Year of the Ageless One."

As the year changes in the real world, campaign world year also generally advances (fwiw: WotC often tries to keep the last digit the same too).

Note that this seems to be the case so far in LFR, though it wasn't the case for the Realms during the 3.x era (OTOH, the RPGA didn't have an active campaign set in the Realms for most of that era).

This was also the case for Living Greyhawk, which advanced its calendar on a year-for-year basis (but which had fundamentally no "canon" support going on, other than LG).

I'm not yet convinced that WotC will continue to advance the Realms calendar in this way; I suspect it might cause the LFR calendar to advance more quickly than they want the overall Realms calendar to advance (from the standpoint of the novels).  I may be mistaken, but I don't think that the overall Realms calendar advanced more than 3 or 4 years during the 9 years of 3.x.

The change in year does not have to do with the RPGA.
The year changed in the Dungeon adventure Monuments of the Ancients.
The RPGA adventures simply followed D&DI.

"how do you track it" remains a very fair question then, as I'm unsure memorizing every issue of dungeon is a feasible one.

Yeah... there is no way in any world that I am going to read everything that comes out in Dungeon, just to keep up on year changes. I get a lot out of the mags, but have to pick (didn't use to when I could carry a bound magazine out the door) what I read to fit things into the time I have.
We definately need a way to keep up on this that is less time consuming, since we are limited to when we can read/access PDFs opposed to printed magazines.

Another one is "does it really matter?" lol

As soon as you start looking too closely at the number of days per adventure, the passing of seasons, the order of adventures, and other such timing details, you start finding all sorts of problems.  The only way I can think of to deal with this in a consistent manner is to ignore it more or less entirely.

Since the new year (the real life new year in January) I've been incrementing the ages of PCs as they get updated in the character builder (if I think of it), but even that is just for a laugh (all my warforged started out as 2 years old, now they are all 3).

I like to think of our adventure playing as nonlinear for the most part, sure we have "levels" but I can view each "tier" of play as it's own period in my characters life that I'm remembering in story form each time I play a game, the order is not 100% important to a degree, that's how I can be some place in winter one week, be someplace in midsummer the next, spend 3 months in spring leading hippies to their new town the next week and then it's winter again.

At least that's how I look at it.

I think that's the bigger point.  If you're wanting to have an "accurate" aging for your characters, age them a year at the beginning of every calendar year, if it makes you happy.  But, it doesn't look like we're getting (or can expect to get) much guidance from WotC on "this is today's date in the Realms".

From the standpoint of LFR, it makes even less sense to worry about "what date is it?"  Because characters can play modules in any order (as long as they're in the proper tier), and because modules are available for play for so long (2008 modules will be available through 2011), the concept of "module X occurs on Y date" is meaningless.
