Changing deities?

CCG 1.9 doesn't mention any provisions for a character changing his or her deity.  Is it simply not possible, like changing stats?  Or completely free and open, even for divine characters?  Or somewhere in the middle?

There are two answers here, involving the deity for role-playing purposes and the deity for mechanical purposes.

CCG1.9 p.8, "Select a deity for your character, if applicable." For mechanics, this seems "applicable" only if you have a divine class, Channel Divinity power, or feat that refers to a deity. In that case, the second sentence applies, and you must choose one and only one deity. Deity is not on the list of items for normal retraining (PHP p.28).

Can you do a class feature retrain (CCG p.2)? I don't think so. It's certainly not on the formal list of class features (for example, PHP p.60 for clerics). In any case, it's not only classes that can force you to choose a deity. It's really an aspect of the campaign setting. So, I think you're stuck.

The other question is, what deity does your character actually worship? This is fluff (and probably not the question you're asking). I think, for most characters, the general description on PHP p.20 applies: "Most people revere more than one deity, praying to different gods at different times." Furthermore, even divine characters can worship whom they will in-character (implied on PHP p.62.)  So, your cleric can derive his powers from god A (not to be changed), but carry a holy symbol representing god B. Other clerics of god A should be hunting you down as a heretic, but we don't track that in LFR.

That and the pesky rule that says your holy symbol has to represent your deity for it to work.  (PHB pg. 56)

"To grant its benefit to a divine character, a holy symbol must represent the character’s patron deity or one of a group of deities the character serves."

And since the CCG restricts us to one deity trying to invoke the second part of that rule doesn't work since you can't patronize a group of deities.

Aside from all that, to answer the OPs question: there are no rules in LFR regarding changing deities.  I woudl say that if you feel your character has a reason for changing deities, then do it.  Gone are the days of losing powers and needing an Atonement spell, etc.  However, anything that is keyed off the original deity (channel divinty feats, deity specific holy symbols, etc.) would need to be retrained/sold/etc. as normal.

I am no one official, so this is just my opinion.  There's nothing that restricts it (either in the core rules or in the camapign rules) so I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to.
