However, when I went to play someone in the group says you have to start at level one and work your way up. This would explain why people are so anxious to level up quickly, so they can play the 4-8 mods. It also would explain why you don't input your own character level when you put characters in your online reporting thing. But... what about page 3 of the CCG? What about people that can't find a 1-4 mod being run, but still want to join in? Which is it? Can you really not create a character at a higher level, or are the guys in my local group trying to spout some "hardcore mode" bs? |

Right now, most LFR makes up 90% of RPGA events, so there is a tendency to use the terms a little interchangeably. So, if you want to play in LFR, you will need to make a character and start from level one like everyone else. If people in your area play regularly, you should not have to wait too long or look too hard to find a group playing lower adventures. If you play other RPGA stuff (usually one-shot adventures) like the Delves that explicitly ask for higher level characters then you use the Creating Higher Level Characters rules. |

In addition, under 3E / 3.5, the RPGA has run a series of "D&D Campaigns", such as Xen'drik Expeditions, that use a concept called "level bumps" -- in essence, several times a year, all PCs are advanced to a certain level, if they haven't already achieved that level in play. It allows for the the entire campaign (and all the PCs) to be at or near a particular level at a particular time. I strongly suspect that RPGA will announce a new D&D Campaign (or something like it), probably set in Eberron, at D&D Experience. The wording in the "general RPGA" section of the RPGA rules (which, as Telvin has noted, is trumped by the campaign-specific rules for LFR later in that document) is likely also in there to cover how such a D&D Campaign will work. |
| #6Dragon9Dec 04, 2008 14:46:01 | ohhhh.... there's OTHER D&D RPGA stuff besides LFR. Yes there are. For example, Return to the Moathouse (I know oathouse was in the title, don't remember if it Return to or not) was an RPGA adventure that you created a 5th level character to play. But that character was only ever used int hat adventure (it was like one of the old Classics). You apparently missed the first bullet point on page one of the CCG. ![]() All characters start at 1st level unless otherwise specified. Some RPGA programs might have characters starting at a higher level, in which case see “Creating a Higher-Level Character” below. |
