| #1AuricRAvenhelmNov 09, 2008 23:20:22 | I want to play a character (good elven ranger) who is one of the Harpers. Is this legal? Or will there be an opportunity for my character to join this group? |
| #2koushiroNov 10, 2008 1:32:40 | I believe they no longer exist. Feel free to be rebuilding them in character. |
| #3Madfox11Nov 10, 2008 2:31:08 | The Harpers still exist, but they have become very secritive after a mass attack by Netherese on their members. Their HQ is in Luruar and their primary focus is opposing Netheril and few if any of the powerful members of old are still alive. Openly saying you are a Harper agent is a sure way to get killed now a days. In any event, PCs cannot just join them, just as that they cannot just join any other official existing FR organizations*. They need an invitation which is (going to be) offered in various adventures. In case of the Harpers you will need to work for it and show that are you are a valuable asset (and more often then not by acting like a Harper in an adventure and not just be victorious in adventure). * The exception is when a paragon or epic path is associated with a group and the PC takes that path. Rarely there is anything that requires membership, and by taking the path a PC automatically joins the group at that time (e.g. Harper epic destiny). We try to prevent this from suddenly happening by adding earlier opportunities in adventures though. Pieter Sleijpen RPGA LFR Global Administrator |
| #4gomeztooNov 10, 2008 2:31:55 | You cannot actually make a character that is a harper - they are an organization that is not PC-controlled and membership needs to be earned through adventuring. I expect there will be adventures where you will be able to earn membership (likely not all at once). As a side note: just because the HQ is in Luruar does not mean that they are only in Luruar. | #5koushiroNov 10, 2008 12:07:10 | So make sure you've got bluffed trained as a class skill so you can tell the goblin hexers and crossbow turrets that your a member of the Harpers and they can believe you. |
| #6gomeztooNov 10, 2008 14:33:59 | Well, they likely just look at you oddly... given that they likely never heared of the Harpers. ![]() |
| #7mr_industrialpantsNov 10, 2008 16:12:10 | Well, they likely just look at you oddly... given that they likely never heared of the Harpers. Not only that but other characters and NPCs may expect you (in game anyway) to pull out a harp and start playing. :D Sure The Harpers still exsist but not as strong as they were pre-Spellplague era. I'd like to see this become a card like the Zhent card later though. I think that would be kind of neat. |
| #8Dragon9Nov 12, 2008 0:32:38 | Perhaps we should make an advernturing company with the same goals as the Harpers called the Lutists. |
| #9gomeztooNov 12, 2008 5:01:46 | No, Banjoists! Old school, of course. |
| #10kinevonNov 12, 2008 5:33:31 | No, Banjoists! Old school, of course. Nope, Flautists, for those who want to flaut their affiliation. ;) |
| #11Dragon9Nov 12, 2008 7:57:27 | Ukelelers? |
| #12jeffvNov 12, 2008 10:11:37 | Tuba-ers. Certainly interesting to pull out of a bag of holding. Added bonus: If you say it fast enough, you'll have people confused into thinking you're a fraternal organization of potatoes. |
| #13WolfStar76Nov 12, 2008 13:53:49 | Glockenspielists. Just because. |
| #14mr_industrialpantsNov 12, 2008 16:43:58 | What about a Yodeler? I'm sure we can find some inspiration for such a character concept by simply flipping through the channels on the TV: ... ![]() ... |
| #15tyweiseNov 14, 2008 9:51:46 | No, Banjoists! Old school, of course. Banjoliers has a much better sound to it. |
| #16gomeztooNov 14, 2008 10:05:37 | No, I am pretty sure it is banjoist: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0081.html |
| #17syrsuroNov 14, 2008 14:44:39 | There is a currently a reference to (and an NPC from) the Harpers in an RPGA sanctioned adventure. The NPC in question does not mention the Harpers and 'feigns ignorance' of them if the subject comes up. However, this particular adventure does allow for a Story Object "Contact with the Harpers" based upon the character interaction with that NPC. So they are definately still around, and with this is mind, the creation of a PC-run organization by the same name would seem redundant and inappropriate. Carl |
| #18koushiroNov 14, 2008 14:54:09 | It'd make it so people who want to have something to do with that particular aspect of the Realms get to enjoy the game more. That's way more important then some silly NPC organization. |
| #19eldric_ivNov 15, 2008 0:27:24 | Agreed. All Harpers must be able to accomplish one of two tasks: play the harp or incessantly argue on a particular point. |
| #20Dragon9Nov 17, 2008 10:56:16 | Well, every gamer fits the second requirement. ;)![]() |
| #21Keith53Nov 17, 2008 20:05:53 | The Harpers and any organization specifically mentioned in the FRCG or FRPG will be a campaign run organization, most likely, and may or may not have membership opportunities made available. Stay tuned. (no pun intended) The renewed Harpers are not quite the Realms trotting, large organization of old, and they have a more focused purpose. Keith |
| #22eudemonistNov 20, 2008 16:07:23 | Harpsichordians. |
| #23Dragon9Nov 20, 2008 16:22:32 | Ugh... coudl you imagine having to lug one of those around? |
| #24lfloganNov 24, 2008 15:50:58 | Harpingers - Playing songs of impending doom. |
| #25mr_industrialpantsNov 28, 2008 22:48:26 | Well, every gamer fits the second requirement. ;) Odd...I thought this was the one for married couples. Instead of a harper why not play a triangle? Here's some inspiration for that idea... ![]() |
| #26igneousguyDec 01, 2008 17:44:10 | I think they might have to be the Cowbellers! I've got a fever.... ...And the only perscription is more COWBELL! |
| #27mr_industrialpantsDec 01, 2008 22:17:46 | I think they might have to be the Cowbellers! ROFL!!! Oh if you were at our gaming table this past weekend...we had cowbell...and it was hilarious. Yes! Bards who play a Cowbell. |
