| #1tsrielJul 15, 2010 1:04:12 | First off, I'm fairly new to 4e and LFR having only played in a few sessions to date and I wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. ![]() So far, I've one character I'm really enjoying in a dragonborn warlord. Another, I'm not exactly sure how it works but I like the concept. After having a first character I felt was successful, I decided to give multiclassing a try. Maybe I'm just not getting it, but the way multiclassing is written in the PHB seems a little vague to me. For example, I started as a half-elf and picked fighter as a base class starting at 1st level. My half-elf extra power I pick is Dire Radiance from the warlock class as I want to be able to have a ranged attack that dares foes to approach me. I selected Battlerage Vigor as my fighter class feature because I want a build that can create alot of temp hp to offset the fact that I'll eventually be using a fullblade (greatsword for now) later. For my feat, I selected Pact Initiate to multiclass into a warlock and pick Infernal Pact for my warlock class feature, which gives me Hellish Rebuke (and Eldritch Blast on top of the bonus temp hp when an enemy cursed by me drops?) You can see the character here: iplay4e.appspot.com/characters/agdpcGxhe... There's also the issue of conflicts between two different DMs on whether or not marks like the fighter's Combat Challenge and the Warlock's Curse cancel each other out. Furthermore, does the extra curse damage only trigger when I hit it with warlock powers or when I hit it in general? A little clarity on how multiclassing works would be awesome and I thank anyone who'd be able to explain how it's supposed to work. |

Multiclassing gives you exactly and only what is mentioned in the Feat(s) you take which 1) doesn't give you Eldritch Blast 2) Doesn't give you a curse However if you did have them, Marks and Curses don't interact at all: they have no effect on each other. Extra curse damage happens on any hit but only once per round (but you don't have it). |

It's unfortunate that I won't have warlock's curse for the slight extra damage, but I still think that's a small sacrifice for the huge increase in ranged damage options before charging into melee. I think the mixup was over the difference between multiclassing and hybrids. I think I'll open that can of worms some other time. |

I think that confusion stems from the fact that a lot of people will refer to those striker damage features (Curse, Quarry) as "marking" since they are "marking" the enemy for extra damage. However, it's not Marked, a rules mechanic and condition that is imposed on an enemy. It's just people using a term out of context. |
