| #1Archon007Sep 15, 2009 19:14:26 | Since the new character builder update has the hybrid class been rpga approved now? When I make a character it says it's STATUS:LEGAL, but I wasn't sure if the RPGA gave it the a-ok.
Thanks |
| #2SamrinSep 15, 2009 19:22:32 | Hybrids are not RPGA legal. They won't be till PHB3. |
| #3Dragon9Sep 15, 2009 21:59:34 | The LFR campaign file in the update is never fully correct. There's been a bazillion threads on this. |
| #4Kurald_GalainSep 16, 2009 6:18:49 | According to some interpretations, they are legal, according to others, they are not. Regardless of which interpretation is "correct" here, it is generally not a good idea to build an RPGA character based on disputed interpretations (of, well, anything) as this will mean that your character is unplayable at certain tables (i.e. those tables that disagree with your interpretation). |
| #5Dragon9Sep 16, 2009 7:32:55 | It isn't a matter of interpretation. They are not legal. |

Just to expand on this true statement, look through the articles for the sidebar about RPGA use. It does say specifically that they aren't legal. |
| #7SamrinSep 16, 2009 17:28:30 | Being in the character builder does not make something legal. The article itself specifically states they are not useable in RPGA. There is no dispute here. |
| #8XaviYagoOct 09, 2009 14:03:17 | To update this thread.... In the latest update of the CB (10/06/2009), if you load the default LFR campaign file, you cannot make a Hybrid character. You can choose the Hybrid option, but you cannot add the actual Hybrid classes.

| #9Dragon9Oct 09, 2009 15:07:41 | Good to see they at least got that right. |
| #10obiwaynekenobiOct 10, 2009 14:08:18 | This is something I never quite understood. Both the Assassin and Seeker classes, as well as the Monk and Psion, are going to be in PHB3 and are RPGA legal because they've been added to the Compendium and Character Builder. However, Hybrid characters are also in PHB3, and the Compendium and Character Builder but are not RPGA legal. It seems odd to me that some PHB3 preview content is legal right now, while other content from the same book won't be legal until the actual book is out. |
| #11XaviYagoOct 10, 2009 20:43:51 | As mentioned in a few posts above, the sidebar that discussed the legality of the Hybrid class in RPGA was Dragon #375 (May 2009). |

My assumption has always been that it was a 'work in progress' and not just a playtest, but an early playtest and that they weren't sure yet exactly what the mechanics would be. And rather than deal with the headaches that would result if they had to significantly rework the mechanics they chose to make it not legal at the time. (Note - for a normal class, there may be some tweaking required but it wouldn't seriously change what you could do in the way that major changes to an entirely new mechanic like Hybrids could. So a Monk (or Artificer or whatever) playtest is 'safer' for them. Sure - it is possible that they now know how accurate the playtest was, but even if they going to be substantially similar to the published article its not worth the hassle to 'legalize' it for LFR. The 'not legal for' line is already in there and they can't just remove it; just declaring it 'legal' would lead to confusing and contradictory information (and would have to wait for a new version of the CCG). And they probably won't bother to republish the current/final version of the Hybrid because they've already 'been there and done that' and it would be redundant from a publishing perspective. So we'll just have to wait.

| #13CailteOct 11, 2009 5:16:09 | Actually they could just declare them legal, as the most recent article allows for them being made legal at a later date. Oh and Assassins will not be in PHB3 - they are DDI Exclusive content, which is a different kettle of fish. |

Well, it's all explained with the CCG. Assassin: class printed in Dragon, in the compiled issue, legal We run into this with some other things too: Martial Power 2 Playtest: Not compiled in Dragon, illegal So, when it comes to Dragon Magazine, anything in it is legal as long as it is in the compiled issue and the aricle itself does not have a statement saying it isn't RPGA legal. The confusion seems to stem fromt he fact that some PHB3 material is being released through Dragon (playtests of Monk and Hybrids) and soem are being released under the Debut Content program (which will encompass books other than PHB3 in the future). |
