I know this is absurd, but because of my general dislike for the column, I want to ask.

The CCG allows all content from Dragon magazine, yes? Dragon 375, page 121, we have Oso the Circus Bear, a ridiculously overpowered familiar. A new version was put out in Dragon 376, page 75 that could be considered balanced. As Dragon magazine content, is either version LFR legal?

In the compiled issue #376, Oso's stat block (the "balanced" one) does *not* contain the keyword "Familiar". I'm not 100% positive, but I think that this omission may make it not legal for RPGA play.

I would agree with Kenobi on this one.

I know that if you sat at my table while I was DM'ing, I'd request that you choose another familiar.

As written in the compiled Dragon magazine, Oso is not, technically, a familar, as he does not have the familar keyword. So there would be no legal way to select him as a familiar, as the feat tells you to choose a familiar, and he is not one.
