Ok, the new retraining rules listed in the FAQ seem to suggest you can retrain ability scores. Your thoughts, and how would this bee done?

Hard work. Study & training.

Weight lifting for Str.  ("I can now lift twice my own body weight, only took me 4 weeks of weights & smoothies")

Endurance Training for Con.  ("Run 5 miles in full plate.... not a problem, my trainer made me do 6")

Dance Classes for Dex. ("Eyes up, chest out & 5, 6, 7, 8.....")

Night Classes for Int. ("Basic math, check. Basic history, check. Just need to take the Artificer's Chemistry class next time it's offered)

Surviving the stupid things you do & learning not to do it again for Wis. (Not to self.... stop trying to take the red dragon's gold)

Self-help books for Cha. (How to impress a dragon in thee easy steps.... before they use their breath weapon)

But with the new rule that lets you retrain the class build, you may need to change stats. Taking a valor bard & changing it to a prescient bard means you need to up you dex by loosing some con.

I think they added this rule so you don't have to have mutual fighters if you like the newest build in a marital power book more than what was available when you originally built the character.

I'm sorry, what I mean is what are the mechanics behind it. Can I just re-arange my stats as I see fit, one stat at a time and is it limited to only a certain number of points per level?

I think the idea is to:

Sample array for a warforged fighter 1st level:
str 20 (16 pts)
con 15 (3 pts)
dex 10
int 8
wis 13 (3 pts)
char 10

and then at level 4 you go:
Str 20 (12pts) and a +1
con 15 (2 pts) and a +1
dex 13 (3 pts)
int 8
wis 14 (5 pts)
char 10

So it lets you gain another +1 two a pair of nads as well as possibly helping you improve some skills for the 4 levels between 4 and 8. You could also use it to try out some new feats or things like that if you like.
The idea is to give you an additional 5 to 6 starting attribute points.

another example:
Half Orc Brutal Rogue
Str 18 (9 pts)
Con 11
Dex 18 (9 pts)
Int 8
Wis 10
Cha 13 (3 pts)

at 4th level
Str 18 (7 pts) and a +1
Con 14 (5 pts)
Dex 18 (7 pts) and a +1
Int 8
Wis 10
Cha 13 (3 pts)

And just so you know... the Monk is being sarcastic.

Whoops! Sorry, just a bad word choice on my part. (need coffee...) Thanks for pointing that out Dragon 9. Thats not the idea behind retraining.

I think what they are trying to do is allow players who abandoned characters at higher levels to allow for easier retrain with the newer content that has come out.

For example:

Str/Cha Paladins stuck in limbo with no feat/power support until Divine Power came out.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this board. Can someone please point me to the faq in question? Thank you in advance.

It seems like the reference is actually to the latest version of the RPGA character creation guide (v.1.95), which you can find here:

www.wizards.com/dnd/Event.aspx?x=dnd/4ne...

Hit the first "download" link on that page.
