However, I'd like to see if I could be doing better as him or if this is even effective to do. I don't mean to bash on the idea, because I like it. I just want to keep options open.
Level 2 Human Wizard Str: 8 Con: 11 Dex: 10 Int: 20 Wis: 14 Cha: 10 Feats: Burning Blizzard, Arcane Fire, Wintertouched Powers: Chilling Cloud, Ray of Frost, Scorching Burst, Burning Hands, *TOME* Icy Terrain, Freezing Cloud, *SPELLBOOK* Horrid Whispers, Shield I think it's kind of obvious how this is run, but I'll just list in anyways. I'm a hot/cold wizard that takes advantage of the the vulnerablility that I get from Arcane Fire. I set up a scorching burst or burning hands in an area I like, and then drop in a chilling cloud or icy terrain next turn. Then again, this was before I found out things like Burning Blizzard and such are only bonuses on damage rolls, so they don't add to Chilling Cloud...which makes me sad. But I like getting a straight 10 damage next round that doesn't hit allies, but hits on a +2 because of CA from Wintertouched. But maybe I'm doing this wrong...or maybe I shouldn't rely too much on this. I just like dropping bombs like this. Maybe not too much to do damage, but to force enemies where I want them, away from people, or at least to spread out. Should I keep going with this or should I go back to my pyromancer? |

A fire/frost mage seems more fun to play than a plain ol' fire mage, imho. If you want to force enemies where I want them, retrain Ray of Frost into Thunderwave. |

Phantom Bolt lets you slide 1 enemy, and gives a single target option for larger damage when you cannot get Scorching Burst off. Orbmaster's Incendairy Detonation lets you kill the Minions you missed when you attacked in the first place, or deny terrain to them. Sure it does less Raw damage than Burning Hands but it is more readily used as well. Flaming Sphere its a Fire daily that is just flat out better at terrain control than Freezing Cloud. |

Or you're fighting in a small envirnment. My Lvl 9 wizard uses Thunderwave often when he finds himself in tight quarters. Of course, he's human so it was an obvious 3rd choice for at-will. |
