It's only large sized, the cost of a level 8 item, and would provide unlimited out door flight capability, if only to the PC flying it. The drawback is that you must spend you move action controlling it every round, and because it cannot hover you MUST fly 5 squares every round, and of course it takes 2 hands to control. There is one race/class combination that this is not a significant problem for: Warforged Artificer. Not the most optimal in general, but with an embedded implement and a shoulderbow, you wouldn't need to ever take your hands off the controls, while still being able to attack freely. They also have the ability to restore HP to objects as an encounter power, and get the make whole ritual for free at first level in the event the ornithopter is reduced to 0 hp or less. And when you are in towns/dungeons, you are still an artificer, and a fairly tough one at that. Anyone else like this idea? |

(yes I know Gond, etc it's still generally incongruous) As to the mechanics of it, it would draw a LOT of attention. If I were a monster, flying or otherwise, I would target that thing straight away. With conditions like Daze/immobilise/stun etc I would be interested to see how that would interact with a vehicle... |

The pilot should count on crashing once so often ;) Also note that the thing probably can only be used effectively in a few specific situations just as with mounts. |

| #5tyweiseNov 06, 2008 8:41:31 | If you name him Starscream, you win LFR. |
| #6kinevonNov 06, 2008 16:17:44 | If you name him Starscream, you win LFR. Too bad. My Warforged Artificer, already been played several months ago, is named Maker.... |

I would expect a fair ammount of enemy heat, but at least I wouldn't have to worry to much about the melee only baddies. And on the upside, every hit the ornithopter takes is one hit a PC doesn't have to take, area attacks being the exception. And at least being an object it's immune to poison, psychic, and necrotic damage as well as anything that targets will. That said, if and when I ever do make this character myself, I certainly expect to be using make whole fairly regularly...and will definately invest in items to reduce/prevent falling damage, hehe. |
| #8fleetfangNov 07, 2008 11:06:37 | This is absolutely awesome. Time to dust off that 1st level warforged artificer that I played in one game months ago... |
| #9Dragon9Nov 07, 2008 13:27:51 | So are we goign to see the Warforged Air Corps in LFR now? lol. I can see a 6 man wing of Warforged wizards and warlocks flying in on their ornithopters while Flight of the Valkyries plays before they blast the hell out of the battle field. |
| #10eldric_ivNov 07, 2008 13:58:40 | If I could get some people to play warforged, I would bring some speakers and an mp3 player just for the music. |
| #11rexracerjrNov 09, 2008 14:18:53 | Whoa. Is this Legal? |
| #12Jay_Ibero_911Nov 09, 2008 15:26:21 | Whoa. Is this Legal? Yep, completely. All you need is the level and gold to afford the specific items (or get lucky enough to just find them). |
| #13syrsuroNov 15, 2008 10:06:14 | Can you harvest spice with it? Carl |
