Hey guys, I was hoping someone might offer a bit of advice on rounding out this laser cleric. He is being built with LFR in mind, so that is why the hp is 32 instead of 20.

personally I'd drop that base start WIS to 16 and put those points into DEX and CON. 12 fort and reflex defense is way too low IMO.

I don't know, Cleric with 20 wis is pretty sexy. I'd keep the 20 wis.

I think it is something like Please Examine And Comment Here. Used over in the CO and homebrew forums.

Now, on the PC, that 20 Wis is fine for using his powers, but limits his Skill Challenge competence, which is what I would worry about.

It also limits his ability to handle melee combat, since he'll be mainly trying to stay in the non-melee but within 5 squares range.

I'm not a big fan of 20 starting stats for classes whose attack stat isn't Int or Dex. I think you end up sacrificing too much else in this case (lower Cha, lower skill bonuses, fewer feats you qualify for) to make it worth it.

To me, the fact that having a third at-will is (until Divine Power comes out) a useless benefit makes humans less attractive as clerics. I'm more partial to elves as laser clerics, either from Aglarond or with the Warrior of the Wild feat.

I really think that being from Waterdeep will make up for the CHA deficiency.

+2 Diplomacy means you are effectively cha 16...

That's +10 Diplomacy at level 4, without feats.

Also, having a way to get out of Grabs is important. A bit more dex (see elf cleric) and Acrobatics would be a good idea.

That would give you a physical and a face skill, combined with 'Heal' you will be covered for skill challenges.

Btw, a 20 wis is pretty essential for laser clerics... (Who miss ALL the time) - and don't forget it synergies with the heal skill and clerical healing powers which can be used out of combat.

One thing I would suggest is swap Strength with Con, they both add to fort defence, and con will at least add to surges.

I would personally go for stats like this: (Human, after racial modifier)

Str: 10
Con: 14 (Now you can take scale armour, and plate armour in the long run)
Dex: 8
Int: 12 (for ref def. and Religion)
Wis: 19
Cha: 13 (for skill challenges/random cleric cha powers like bastion of health)

Also boosting con a bit wouldn't go astray.

Problem with this build is lack of a physical skill. But Has good heal/diplo, and you could pick up skill training in Perception from somewhere... (Though I prefer Diplomacy)

Same as an Elf:

Str: 8
Con: 14 (Now you can take scale armour, and plate armour in the long run)
Dex: 14 (now can take multi class ranger and pick up acrobatics)
Int: 10
Wis: 19
Cha: 13 (for skill challenges/random cleric cha powers like bastion of health)

A downside to these builds is the lack of an ability to get a shield... (need some str)

But hey I think Laser clerics are inherently worse off than Str clerics anyways... even through judicious application of 'flank' the Str clerics are usually more likely to hit, ref defence a couple of points lower or otherwise...

I'd also note that having an 8 Con(and therefore 6 surges) is dangerous as well.

As a Cleric, you're going to have to stay within melee range a lot of the time and that 6 surges means you can go down and stay down.

Please Evaluate and Critique Honestly. In other words, look it over and give the good and the bad but don't be an ass about it.

I was trying to see if there was a viable build for it. I had the concept in my head of a priest of lathandar casting down holy power from lathandar!!! (effin' amaundar why they gotta mess with one of my favorites for!!)

Seems like I Might be best suited getting a STR priest up and rolling. I was going to create Warmachine, a Divine construct of war from Tempus.

While it does limit his effectiveness in skill challanges by limiting him more towards wisdom based skills, that isn't necessarily a disadvantage. More skills are wisdom based than any other attribute and while his non-wisdom skills would generally be lower he would make up for that by being pretty darn good at any wisdom skill.

The truly skill challenge crippled are fighters or barbarians who top out thier strength and con, which combined have less than half as many related skills as wisdom. Skills by attribute:

1 - Strength
1 - Constitution
3 - Dexterity
3 - Intelligence
5 - Wisdom
4 - Charisma

My problem with this build (besides the fact that 6 healing surges will bite in the butt repeatedly) is that it gives up one of the main advantages of a laser cleric.

Laser clerics get a lot of mileage out of Charisma. A 12 Charisma severely diminishes that advantage.

I like humans as clerics for 2 reasons

1) I like the added defense bonus because I tend to make frontline healers that can withstand some attacks

2) I like the added feat for the same reason. It allows me to take scale and shield, or scale and plate at level 1 then get the sheild at level 2.

If I was more into the lazer cleric I'd probably lean away from the human, but since I like the clerics that can get right into the melee the human seems to work out best for that.
