Are there any penalties or benefits for playing in your region? Say I want to run an online game, how does region matter and affect the game? |

Your physical location has no bearing whatsoever on the region your characters can be from or the adventures you can play. There may be benefits from playing characters from a region in mods from their home region, but that is true regardless of the location the game is played in. |

No. Can I choose any background for my character regardless of region? As long as it is one of the regions in the FRPG, no other backgrounds are allowed in LFR. Are there any penalties or benefits for playing in your region? It is possible that an adventure set in a specific region could grant a minor (+/-2 for something) benefit to a PC from that region. Maybe a bonus to knowing local history, or a slightly increased chance of a positive reaction to a Diplomacy roll or such. Say I want to run an online game, how does region matter and affect the game? Only as much as it affects face-to-face play, which is minimal. Someone whose character is local to the module's region may get a minor benefit in the module. There is one GM I play with who has a large map of the "new" FR, and likes to place a die for each PC's origin, and another die to show where the night's adventure is happening. Sometimes he winds up with as many dice as there are players, plus another one, since no one is from the module's region. ;) |

For a player there are really no such things as regions. Your character will pick a region (any from the source book) but there is nothing tying that to a real world location. -James |
