My level swarm druid got hosed by the new Hide Armor Expertise; it's virtually useless to him now. Am I allowed to retrain it now, or do I have to wait to go up a level first?

But you don't have to apply the errata until April 2nd, so as long as you level up in that period of time, you're fine.

I'm no one official, but I'd say change it now.  I would argue that, at the very least, it might fall under the playtest ruling in the CCG, since the new official version is significantly different from the previous version and can have a significant impact on some builds.

In any case, how were you to know when you took the feat that it would change officially, let alone what it would become?  Forcing a player to "live with it" until the character levels stinks of "bait and switch", since the rules change causes a significant and involuntary change in the way the character plays.

Except it's not a playtest item.  By the rules you have to wait until you level.  Whether you follow the rules or go the route of bobloper is up to you.

The only time you can switch things out immediately is when a rules update ends up making your character illegal.  For example, the one feat that got the pre-req switched to requiring one to be a Shadar-Kai invalidated a lot fo PCs (I don't remember the name of the feat).  In that case, you need to make the minimum amount of changes to make your PC legal again before playing. (i.e. switch out that one feat)

Looks like you're right, Dragon.  Based on the latest CCG update (v1.95, page 10, the big red-text section on the left), you're stuck with it until you manage to gain a level.

Frankly, though, it just makes me that much less pleased to be involved with LFR right about now.  If my wizard were an Orb wizard, though...

I guess it's a good thing you have 30 days (well, 28 days now) to abuse the old rules as fully as possible before you get hosed...

That's why the 30 day rule is in there.  It gives you a chance to get that level so you can swap things out properly if you want to without making you feel your character is now gimped or sub-par while getting to that level.

"Frankly", IF, your intention is "to abuse the rules as fully as possible", I would be much less pleased to have you in LFR.

Generally speaking, it's the abuse of these imbalances that drive the changes.

...which hoses the person like me who didn't go out of his way to abuse whatever loophole happened to be flavor of the month.  Wizard, yes, but I never wanted to be an orb wizard, even before the March update.

...which drives those who really abuse the rules to find the next "imbalance" to abuse.  As evidenced by the "new cheese" thread(s) on this forum.

...which has driven half of my adventuring company to consider retiring our characters.  Not abusive characters, but characters who have been severely injured by the last few rounds of "updates".  Characters for whom we have to wonder:  "What even remotely interesting thing that my character can do besides damage will be nerfed in May?"

(Apparently, I should have put on my asbestos before I cracked sarcastically...)

OK OK, I did say "IF". I am sure no one here intends on on abusing the rules.

I do honestly feel like their are alot of us here for whom the repeated and overt abuse of known imbalances lessen our LFR experience either by ruined adventures or now unavailable build elements. I just want my disapproval noted when what I consider anti-social gaming appears to have been promoted.

Well, there's a good chance that the damage will be nerfed too Smile

Unless you're epic level already, HAE didn't render your swarm druid useless or impotent or make significant changes to its playability. That has been discussed to death in the CharOp forums already.

But you have 30 days from the update to level up (and assuming you play a handful of adventures during that 30 days), you'll have plenty of time to level up and retrain. Its very probable that there will be another change to HAE soon, anyway.
