I have a dragonborn cleric of Bahamut with a very strong personal grudge against Tiamat and a strong association with (good) dragons. Mechanically, Scourge of Io (paragon path from the dragon slayers article in Dragon 369)makes a lot of sense for her. It's draconic / anti-dragon themed, with a level 20 daily that basically consists of spraying a breath weapon and then growing draconic wings for the rest of the encounter.

The only problem is the flavor of the class is a cleric class specifically devoted to being anti Io in particular, and dragons by association. Which is the opposite of her worldview (she's quite friendly with Io actually).

What do people think of reflavoring the class and playing it as a Bahamut-backed scourge of evil dragon kind, with the dragon-like aspects of the class being well.. awakened draconic heritage courtesy of Bahamut? How many here would find it appropriate and welcome it at the table and how many here would be urked at such flavor abuse?

The Dragon article itself mentions that many of the paragon paths could be fluff-wise changed to make the characters allies of dragons facing other dragons. Personally I see no problems with changing the fluff to make it a dragonhunter one that is all about hurting evil dragons. Just don't expect all that many draconic opponents in LFR.

Note that Tiamat is actually a pretty minor deity in the FR as is Bahamut. Although I am not sure what Spellplague did with her, I vaguely remember she is a servant of Bane. The most powerful organized group of evil dragons and evil dragon worshippers would be the Cult of the Dragon.

As long as you're not changing anything mechanically... go for it. Obviously you'd have to explain to the DM that's actually the Scourge of Io PP so there's no confusion, but just changing the name to Scourge of Tiamat isn't going to hurt anything.

Thanks for the opinions. I think I will write "Scourge of Io" in the little blank on the character sheet if I ultimately go that route, but will continue with my in character self description as a "Paladin of Bahamut" (she's a 'Paladin' in the same sense that Miko Miyazaki is a 'Samurai' (Order of the Stick)).

Dragons in general and Tiamat in particular might not come up much in LFR, but that doesn't mean Zhen doesn't have a rather personal grudge against Her.

Of course, no one neccessarily goea around saying they are a particular PP. If you introduce yourself as Istaran, Scourge of Tiamat, I would, IC, think it a title more than anything else. And if I was playign my wizard he would pester you endlessly for any and all information you could give him on Tiamat and how you got the title and... on and on. :P

Sounds like role-playing to me, so go for it. :D
