We started a RPGA LFR last week, second session was today. Next session gonna give us a level 2 and i was aiming for the spellscarred.

I have a Tiefling Sorcerer(Wild) 1. I really like the flavour of spellscarred characters and i want to play one. Since i'm a recent member of the RPGA and the general website is one of the worst i'Ve seen i can't find a clear answer on the avaibility of the spellscarred.

SO can someone explain to me how it works now? I really don't want to hear about 1 year ago, i'm really too much confused right now for that.

So as of now (31 march 2009), can i play spellscarred? How can i make it available? Who do i have to kiss for that? Is it only in DM reward cards? What happens if we decide as a group that i can have it but doesn't have any approval from the RPGA?

and on a unrelated note: What do players gains from games if they doesn't have reward cards anymore? I really hope that it's not only about playing in a RPGA sanctionned game cause that would be useless considering all the events for our group are more or less at three hours drive from us.

Mar 31, 2009 3:33:30 On benefits for playing an RPGA sanctioned game: access to the adventures, which are only available by sanctioning official games, and the ability (if playing LFR) to take characters to other events. Those benefits are going to be of different value to different people, but if you enjoy LFR, you ought to be playing it 'officially'. Plus, benefits from keeping your RPGA details up-to-date (a printed copy of a brand new adventure, this year, it seems) and giving your GMs benefits - always a kind thing to do! Plus, an incentive to GM as well as play!

Regarding spellscarred - you can only play a character with the Student of the Plague feat if you have one of the (currently) three reward cards which allow it. Two were only distributed at major conventions and are creation cards, so even if you get a copy of the card you cannot add it to an existing chraracter. One (Larger than Life) is available in the most recent RPGA rewards mailing. The stated plan was to email the password to the file that contains a copy of all of those cards (found in the Downloads section of the RPGA site) to all registered RPGA members (at least that's how I remember things). This does not appear to have happened yet - you might get somewhere by prodding WotC customer services (www.wizards.com/customerservice). If you can get a copy of this card, it is an expansion card so can be added to an existing character.

Of course if you are, in effect, playing the LFR adventures but not purporting to be actually playing the official campaign, you can do what you like in your group, but then you lose the 'can take characters elsewhere' benefit - at least without 'cheating'. There are no RPGA police; what you do in your group is only known to you. But the way the campaign is meant to work is pretty clear.
