| #1mdonaisJul 17, 2010 2:41:18 | Can a wizard playing at Gencon use the wizard powers from the preview article on DDI. |
| #2SkerritJul 17, 2010 4:40:01 | Not until the issue those powers appeared in is compiled. If it is compiled by then, it should be legal. Not having a DDI account myself, though oddly one of the people making the rules, this assumes the article you are referring to isn't odd in some way (like these are powers only intended for Dark Sun or something and thus we would need to look at them). |
| #3mdonaisJul 17, 2010 10:57:07 | It is the preview for D&D essentials in Bill Slaviscek's weekly column. I don't think his column is restricted access but I may be wrong. It should be compiled right before GenCon. Mike. |
| #4Dragon9Jul 17, 2010 15:10:25 | It'll all depend if it's in Dragon or if it's web only. They've been doing a series of Previews of essentials stuff, but I don't know if it's going to get compiled into Dragon or not. Then again, they're all listed as Dragon 389 and the issue page does show 5 Ampersands (!). So it may all very well be usable by the time GenCon rolls around. |
| #5bobloperJul 28, 2010 7:23:46 | According to the Content Calendar, the Dragon issue is due out this Friday, which gives plenty of time before Gen Con. Use those powers while you can--they're arguably some of the best at-will powers available to wizards, and I fully expect them to be nerfed in the first update. Arc Lightning: Ranged 20, can target 2 creatures? Yes, please. Beguiling Strands: Close blast 5, targets enemies only? Yes, please. It's like Thunderwave, but you trade the damage die for a larger area and target discrimination. (I haven't really thought about a full suite of powers, but it fits well for an interesting niche build for a wizard that allows you to play with only a d20, taking the powers that never have you roll for damage.) Hypnotism is the arguable one, but it's a good single-target control power. |
