| #1ornsjach_dupMay 24, 2008 5:25:21 | ok my last char bit the big one so im rolling up ether halfelf or dwarven (leaning half elf) paladin of bahamut but for some reson i can't come up with a good build having never played a LG pally. ok theres 5 immportant things i wish to mantain: she's good dragon obessed(if i was aloud i would make her dragon born)and shes wishes to be more dragon like in any way possable shes a tank type so str and con im thinking of pushing to 16/17 sword/axe user so im thinking EWP basterd or dwarven war axe and she looks as her self as a leader wich i think should be reflected some where in her build finaly she wont be useing her warhorse in battle unless theres a reson to do so (mostly cuse the mounted knight thing is hard to do) other than that i got nothing so any help is welcome |
| #2swiftbrookMay 24, 2008 7:02:01 | Just some quick thoughts. 1) You don't have a lot of time left in the campaign so make the most of every adventure. 2) Dwarf gives you the extra Con you're after. 3) Dwarf gives you the Dwarven WarAxe proficiency without an extra feat (see point 1). -Swiftbrook |
| #3puggle_halfwineMay 24, 2008 7:20:32 | I agree with the above post, except to make this work we're probably going to have to make her a human (for skill points). Here's a build I'm making up right now (it will almost certainly have errors; check EVERTHING): Suel human female Str: 16 Dex: 8 Con: 14 Int: 10 Wis: 8 Cha: 16 1st Paladin Two-Weapon Fighting (Longsword, shortsword) 2nd Sorcerer (Stalwart if you get access) Spells: Flaming Weapon (+1d8 fire damage on up to two weapons), Expeditious Retreat (swift) 3rd Paladin 4th Paladin 5th Paladin 6th Paladin Power Attack 7th Dragon Disciple 8th Dragon Disciple 9th Dragon Disciple Weapon Focus (Claws) 10th Dragon Disciple 11th Dragon Disciple 12th Dragon Disciple Weapon Focus (Bite) At higher levels (if you get that high) you can use your claws/bite, power attacking and flaming weapon on at least two, or even all three (IF your gm will allow you to treat two claws as "one" weapon; most won't). It's not a perfect build, but it will have a buttload of saves due to charisma, etc. Wear heavy armour (the two spells you know don't have ASFC) to increase your AC. Cheers, Dave. |
| #4ornsjach_dupMay 24, 2008 7:34:53 | but wouldnt the lose to cha hurt me been looking around and in my books thinking of taking at lest 4-5 pally lvls and 4 marshal mabe 2 of ranger(so i can twf) if i can get away with it with out the xp dmg that way i can be a good fighter/battle feild leader. although if i dont take outcast champ lvls it may work. as for PsC im looking at one of the fallowing (have yet to check if there leagil seeing im just brainstorming dragon lord, dragon devotee, outcast champ (if half elf), kensai thinking that modavating ppl could be helpfull as can being able to be a good face for my groups(how many times have i seen us need it and not have it could have saved my last char but i detest) and be usefull in a fight not so much as a strait fighting/tanking class but more flexable if i do go with the marshal lvls im thinking mot char and mot dex as my minors and as my major mot atk half elf or dwarf only plz ps not a skill monky only skills needed are for the PsC i end up with and heal(for a feat im thinking of taking spon healer) relig diplo |
| #5swiftbrookMay 24, 2008 8:50:59 | 1st Paladin -- Two-Weapon Fighting (Longsword, shortsword) OK, what am I missing here. I don't think you can go back to Paladin after you leave the class unless you take a special prestige class or feat. That 2nd level Sorcerer dip kills your Paladin progression. -Swiftbrook |
| #6mwao_dupMay 24, 2008 12:28:14 | OK, what am I missing here. I don't think you can go back to Paladin after you leave the class unless you take a special prestige class or feat. That 2nd level Sorcerer dip kills your Paladin progression. Not to mention, you can't take TWF unless you have a 15 Dex. For the OP, I'd look at where you think you're going to get, levelwise - given the campaign is ending, you're probably talking about somewhere around 4-5th level unless you're doing a lot of ADPs and conventions. Even then, it could be complex finding a table at the APL you want. Make sure you have something to do when playing up - melee characters are tough to do that way. Ride-By-Attack could let you contribute, but that only helps in certain situations. I might do a build like this: Half-Elf Str 16, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 10, Cha 15 1: Ex-Bard 1: Extra Music->Power Attack at 3rd 2: Paladin 1 3: Paladin 2: Devoted Performer (retrain Extra Music into Power Attack) 4: Bard 2: Cha 16 5: Paladin 3 6: Paladin 4: Divine Might 7: Outcast Champion 1 8: Outcast Champion 2: Cha 17 It gives you something to do at low levels, even when playing up, you can contribute. At 4th, you start doing Inspirational Boost, which nicely makes up for your loss of BAB and contributes more. At 6th, you're adding solid extra damage and at 8th, you're doing a lot of extra damage with special attacks. You can just continue Outcast Champion until 11th if you get that far. |
| #7ornsjach_dupMay 24, 2008 13:04:16 | but if i remeber right u lose all ur bard abillitys if u become lawfull that and the fact she starts off as LG makes it kinda hard besides if i remeber right we got half a year so if i play an advrage of 1 game a week i think i can hit 10ish if i dont die first keoland mods are built to be tpks (u have steped into keoland, welcome to keoland roll for initiative, giant goes first giant swings makes will save vs ur santuary spell giant crits u for 200 point at apl 2 u die) and yes this did happen to me i was loooking at lvl1marshal weapon finesess lvl2pally lvl3pally imp weapon familiarity lvl4pally lvl5pally(for the mount to get around) or hitting into Outcast champ lvl 6 any + to smitting or + to turning as i can get thinking dex 16 con 14 wis 11(im getting lvl 1 spells might as make them of use) str 10 at lest and cha as high as i can get it with out wasting points ie no ending with an odd number disclamer: have yet to check the math or even do it yet so if im wrong not come down on my head like the keoland writers (just kidding guys the mods are great brutal relentless and unforgiving but great) LOL. number of pcs killed by those mods 55 out of 55 highest lvl gained lvl 9 and i am a very good player most dont get that high |

| #9ornsjach_dupMay 24, 2008 14:05:16 | droped the lvls of kensai the class not LG legit as for the bard lvls shes too sereous to be a bard |
| #10mwao_dupMay 24, 2008 17:55:10 | droped the lvls of kensai the class not LG legit Bards being serious or not serious is an aspect of what you, the player, bring to it. Is a Monk with a vow of poverty(not the exalted feat, the general idea) who sings gregorian chants in any way not serious? How about a professional diplomat/spy who has cover identities? There's even a prestige class called Dragonsong Lyricist which involves singing... |
| #11ornsjach_dupMay 24, 2008 18:23:33 | ok so far i have pearl "the iotharythear ux isk caex of bahamuti" goldenheart half elf marshal1/paladin4/ out cast champ5 back to marshal if i get the chance role melee fighter battle feild leader str10 dex16 con16 int8 wis12 cha10 both points droped here and cloak of cha or str10 dex16 con14 +2 item here int8 wis11 lvl 4 point droped into here cha14 lvl 8 point here + cloak of cha lvl1marshal weapon finesess (motavate dex) lvl2pally lvl3pally imp weapon familiarity lvl4pally lvl5pally(for the mount to get around) or hitting into Outcast champ lvl 6 any + to smitting or + to turning as i can get pearl's oath of service "i swear buy the great dragon king ,lord bahamut.I will be a becon of light and goodness when all others go out and become a becon of hope where hope is stamed out to the point that no hope is left ,to defend those who cant defend them self in there darkest hour and those show they have not been forgotten! to show kindess where it is needed most and to protect the weak the innocent and the down trotten and to see no evil is alowed to florish and that no inocents are harmed. to be a dragon among men as noble as any gold and as kind as any silver this I swear" |
| #12Jay_Ibero_911May 24, 2008 19:04:04 | ok so far i have You would really be so much better off dropping dex to 10-12, wearing full plate/heavy plate, and investing more heavily in strength so you have some worthwhile damage. Also, I'd drop con to 14...those extra 6 points can be put to so much better use. Race:Half-Elf Alignment:Lawful Good STR-16 (10) DEX-10 (2) CON-14 (6) INT-10 (2) WIS-10 (2) CHA-14 (6) Lv1(Marshal)Skill Focus (Diplomacy), Improved Weapon Familiarity, Motivate Dex Lv2(Marshal)Resilient Troops Lv3(Marshal)Power Attack, Motivate Charisma Lv4(Paladin)+1 STR Lv5(Paladin) Lv6(Outcast Champion)Intimidating Strike Lv7(Outcast Champion) Lv8(Outcast Champion)+1 STR Lv9(Outcast Champion)Feat Lv10(Outcast Champion) You'd get a suit of heavy plate as soon as possible...still swinging the elven courtblade, use motivate dex to help yourself and allies go first, motivate charisma to help with the talky stuff. Max out intimidate and get the synergy from bluff and such, and you'll be able to use intimidating strike to simulate a draconic aura of fear against a single foe you strike. You would feel much more useful with something like this. |

Also, I'd drop con to 14...those extra 6 points can be put to so much better use. gess going dex for 1st strike abilitys is kinda pointless if i can't make my self a threat. if im not getting spells i can drop wis down more if its called for. fear is so dragon like il will so be looking it up going to miss divine health and aura of courage eh whats the odds if me needing it then again it is keoland and our writers love to kill us off there so good at it and the scary thing is there getting better at it all the time! cha is good idea and with a cloak of cha and boots of dex to make up the +3 dex for mithril full plate(should i get so lucky) auras look good bet the int was raised to let me get the skills i need need to sink one into speak language for dragon loss of 1 hp per lvl gess it cant hurt that much most likly in keoland 1 hp a lvl wont stop u from dieing wish i could go dragon born after i get out cast champ but then i couldnt be a outcast champ i bet lol think ill use lvl 9 feat for improved crit if i have yet to get keen on my blade if i have ill use it to make shure i crit lol |
| #14ornsjach_dupMay 25, 2008 11:37:29 | Race:Half-Elf um ill have to take the pally lvls first cuse Improved Weapon Familiarity needs a +1 bab but marshals dont get that till lvl 2 so it will look like Lv1(Paladin)Improved Weapon Familiarity Lv2(Paladin) Lv3(Marshal)Skill Focus (Diplomacy),Power Attack,Motivate Dex Lv4(Marshal)Resilient Troops (Marshal),+1 STR lvl5(Marshal)Motivate Charisma Lv6(Outcast Champion)Intimidating Strike Lv7(Outcast Champion) Lv8(Outcast Champion)+1 STR Lv9(Outcast Champion)Feat Lv10(Outcast Champion) |
| #15timlagorMay 25, 2008 13:56:59 | Why are you wasting a feat on IWF? |
| #16ornsjach_dupMay 25, 2008 14:23:00 | why cuse there is 2 schools of thought on weapon damage crit crit big nubers X3 and X4 or criting offen 18-20 16-20 on a keen me i like to crit offen cuse its a more stable way of getting lots of dmg as well as the blades im using can use peircing and slashing unlike a great sword which is just slashing and a long sword which is again just slashing that and it give her a bit of flavor the fact she grew up with both humans and elves true i lose 2 dmg top end and 1 dmg low end but the crits more than make up for it as does the fact i can use it in more ways giving me more flexability courtblade 1d10 so 1-1018-20/X2 (16-20/x2 with keen) slashing and peirceing vs geat sword 2d6 so 2-12 19-20/X2 (18-20with keen) slashing thinblade 1d6 -16 18-20/x2 (16-20/x2 with keen)slashing and peirceing vs long sword 1d8 so 1-8 19-20/X2 (18-20/2 with keen) slashing the ability to crit more offen is a geat thing most times |
| #17puggle_halfwineMay 25, 2008 20:01:24 | Sorry there were errors in my original post. I am s-blocking the rest of my reply because it's irrelevant and basically a huge rant, but I'd like ornsjach at least to read it. Show but wouldnt the lose to cha hurt me been looking around and in my books thinking of taking at lest 4-5 pally lvls and 4 marshal mabe 2 of ranger(so i can twf) if i can get away with it with out the xp dmg that way i can be a good fighter/battle feild leader. although if i dont take outcast champ lvls it may work. as for PsC im looking at one of the fallowing (have yet to check if there leagil seeing im just brainstorming dragon lord, dragon devotee, outcast champ (if half elf), kensai ... *rubs temples* I can't read this post (or subsequent posts by the same author). Essentially, it's written in what I call "Internet shorthand"- which is fine, because it works on the theory that everything should be as simple and easy to type as possible, making the author's life easier. Generally speaking in life simple is better, but this is an exception. Why? Well I've found that "Internet shorthand" simply passes the burden onto the reader- and since on a web forum there's only one author and potentially many readers, this makes communication... extraordinarily inefficient. May I suggest the following: 1) PUNCTUATION! Full stops, commas, apostrophes- these are essential to easy communication. Please. 2) Much fewer abbreviations. We're not being charged by the character here- just type "people" instead of "ppl". "charisma" instead of "cha", etc. Do NOT use letters instead of words ("I want 2 go"). Also, when using an abbreviation, it's common practice to define the abbreviation before using it- for example, "I want to make a Two-Weapon Fighting (TWF) rogue. Is TWF a good path for rogues?" 3) Spell-checker. I usually don't care about spelling, mostly because my own spelling is awful, but there's a spell-checker built into the posting tool. It will catch minor errors, once again making your reader's lives easier. Use it. It's a right-click away. 4) Capitalise the first word in a sentence. It helps a great deal to break up your sentences and makes things easier to read, especially when combined with point 1. 5) Personal hate: Loss/lose/loose. You LOSE at cards. You suffered a LOSS on the stock market. Your shoelace is LOOSE. |

| #19timlagorMay 26, 2008 2:58:34 | why cuse there is 2 schools of thought on weapon damage crit err what? 1) This post is almost completely incoherent 2) I don't think the ability to do piercing damage is worth as much as I think you think it's worth 2b) Slashing is worth a bit more but not much Pretty sure it's only the Courtblade that can slash (the others are just Rapiers really) 3) Keen doubles the threat range: (18-20/x2) becomes (15-20/x2) etc 4) Wide crit ranges are valuable but the difference between exotic weapons and martial weapons generally comes down to 1 damage/hit (on average) which is not worth a Feat (you can get 2 damage for a Feat pretty easily). Exotic exceptions: - EWMaster: Flurry, Uncanny Blow or something else might make that feat pay - Spiked Chain: reach, close threat, trip, Finesse +2HPA - Courtblade: 2H PA with finesse; CoCL* entry - Weird ones (eg Dragon Chain; Scorpion Claws): special abilities (constrict; +4 to grapple). Puggle: I wholeheartedly agree with most of your rant but there are some acronyms that are sufficiently obvious/well known not to need explaining imo. (and I don't think you get spellchecking on the quickreply) * just for Puggle: Champion of Corellon Larethian (wonder if I spelled that right ;)) |
| #20ornsjach_dupMay 26, 2008 4:53:38 | the court blade is my main weapon the others just are nice to have for sword and board fighting so i figured why just get the court blade with EWP(courtblade) when i can pick up all 3 with IWF |
| #21harimanMay 26, 2008 17:02:39 | the court blade is my main weapon the others just are nice to have for sword and board fighting so i figured why just get the court blade with EWP(courtblade) when i can pick up all 3 with IWF Well, instead of taking Courtblade Proficiency or Improved Weapon Familiarity, you could just wield a Falchion or a Greatsword and crank this paladin's strength as high as possible to make that extra crit range pay off. It saves your character a feat too. |
| #22booleanMay 26, 2008 22:01:35 | Why?
