| #1polalionAug 11, 2008 12:50:23 | Hi I'm posting for a friend who had problems posting: ***** So I'm looking to create a Mounted Charger build. Basic idea is to maximise to hit/dmg to maximise damage when he charges with a lance. This char will be starting at lvl 7 Half-Orc Barb1/Knight2/Fighter4 Str 25(bump at 4, and +4 belt) Dex 12 Con 14 Int 6 Wis 10 Cha 6 Feats: Lvl 1(Barbarian 1) Extra Rage Lvl 2(Knight 1) Lvl 3(Knight 2) Weapon Focus(Lance), Mounted Combat Lvl 4(Fighter 1) Ride By Attack Lvl 5(Fighter 2) Spirited Charge Lvl 6(Fighter 3) Power Attack Lvl 7(Fighter 4) Weapon Specialization(Lance) Ignoring AC and just looking at damage, his attack bonus on a charge is 7(bab) +9(29str while raging) +2(Charge) +1(Weapon Focus) +1(Magical Weapon) +1(High Ground)= +20 Charge Damage would be 1d8+13(1.5xstr) +1(Magic) +2(weapon spec)x3(SPIRITED CHAAAAARGE!!!)= 3d8+48. Alternatevely i could drop weapon focus and spec for improved bull rush and shocktrooper, which would let me power 7 for my full +20 to hit, which full give me 1d8+13(above calc less weapon spec)+14(lance power 7) x3 which would give me 3d8+84 ... ... This is a mounted build, so will definitely be situational. Would like some comments on my build + some tips on how to mitigate the situational-ness inherant in the mounted build. |

Take mounted combat, get ranks in ride, go for spirited charge, buy a lance and a heavy warhorse and your done. I might recommend perhaps looking at making a halfling paladin and then going for halfling outrider though? Riding Dogs are usually easier to get into dungeons and the like. Carry plenty of rope and keep your eyes open for special mounts. |

Knight's Challenge isn't really a useful thing for his build. Maybe we could just talk about this build in a more theoretical sense? We're looking at how to make this work more often. |
| #6kinevonAug 13, 2008 9:02:18 | Just need to clear up some confusion on my part: As mentioned, LG PCs start at 1st level, not 7th level, so that is confusing some of us. LG cohorts can start at higher level, based on the Leadership PC's level, but a 7th level cohort could in no way afford a +4 stat item, since they only have 7200 gp as their starting funds. They also have to be built using the Elite Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8), rather than point buy. So, is this an existing LG character, so all you are requesting is fine-tuning, and maybe for suggestions on retraining options for the next few levels, which would be one type of advice, or is this a new PC being built for a home game, in which case you might want to consider the Character Optimization board, especially since LG has some limitations on character races, feats, classes and PrCs available. |
