| #1koushiroDec 14, 2008 13:04:52 | So we were coming up with LG characters for a while that never really went anywhere. For the Greyhawk Ruins games it was going to be my friend's centaur character from the Bright Sands adventures (Never got to level 2) and my Kobold bard/rogue/thing and another friend's paladin. Quite the odd pair. The Centaur was going to do something like Beguiler/Dragon Diciple/Holy Liberator. The thought of going Bite/Claw/Claw/Hoof/Hoof while actually having Multi-attack seemed silly enough. I could never decide what I wanted to do with my poor Kobold card. I think in the end it was going to be Lyric Thurmatuge, but Foclucan Lyrist looked so silly to be... |
| #2ReylanceDec 15, 2008 15:06:13 | I had plenty of ideas that never ended up developed far enough. My centaur would probably have taken one level of fighter, two levels of monk, then assorted levels of pious templar and master thrower, and would have been a spear throwing machine. My Greyhawk Ruins kobold was going to be a rogue, wizard, unseen seer, arcane trickster, spellwarp sniper. I never did play an archer. I like the wizard archer build that crafts a belt of giant strength and adds enhancements to a holy bow, while using spells to add lots of d6s to every arrow. |
| #3kenobi65Dec 15, 2008 16:25:59 | I had just started a bard that I was going to work through rogue and druid, to get to Fochlucan Lyrist, mostly as a tribute to the old 1E AD&D bard (which was clearly the inspiration for that PrC, and my LG bard resembled my old 1E bard from my college days more than a little bit). |
| #4mattastrophicDec 18, 2008 17:59:42 | Ah, Fochluchan Lyrist... If only we could have changed our stats in the 595 conversion, I might've gone for it. Instead, I ended up with a Virtuoso, though. I do wish I could've redone my combat-based elf bard, though, to take advantage of Snowflake Wardance. And my Grey Elf Rog4/Swash3/Ftr2/ChampionofCorellon2 Daring Outlaw build would've been cool, too. Ah well. -Matt |
| #5koushiroDec 19, 2008 13:17:36 | Snowflake Wardance? What is that out of? |
| #6lomiatDec 22, 2008 10:39:01 | Snowflake Wardance? What is that out of? "Snow"? Frostburn is a good guess. |
| #7lomiatDec 22, 2008 10:45:42 | For me, it wasn't so much about the ideas I never started as the low-level PCs I had to abandon after the 4e announcement. * Doctor Andriy Bomovich, aka Doktor Boom, never made it the point where he was dropping full fatespun empowered born of three thunders fireballs.... *sniff* * My young druid never even made it to 2nd level. * My poor bard, who sounded like a bad Sean Connery impersonation, was ignobly reincarnated from half-elf to gnome (yes, yes, I know that's a mechanical benefit) and then dropped. Had I known he wasn't playing anymore adventures after his death, his spirit never would have returned to the Flanaess. I mean, he'd just converted to Hanali Celanil shortly beforehand. And enjoyed every minute of the conversion ritual... * My CGR archer never got Weapon Specialization or Ranged Weapon Mastery plus the full handful of dice. Though by the end, the build was more interesting to me than the character; that character proved a touch irritating, so... good riddance! He was ultimately betrayed by his traveling companions. It was the perfect ending. * And my cleric just hit 12th level in time to have +9 WIS for his last adventure... He just wanted more adventures! Oh well... |
| #8Jay_Ibero_911Dec 22, 2008 11:58:46 | I'm disappointed I didn't get more play time with my Maxwell Edison character...the human fighter/rogue with a silver goliath greathammer...only made it to 4th level but even then I was having fun with improved feint into an intimidating strike..."Hey look over there!" *POW*....here's the link to the video that inspired his creation: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/239712 What disappoints me most is that 4e doesn't have the necessary mechanics to facillitate such a character anymore...closest I could do would be a human ruthless ruffian rogue using a mace...but it just doesn't feel the same... ![]() |
| #9copperwyrmlingDec 23, 2008 2:55:29 | When the end of LG was announced I had three L1-2 characters, and had to decide which to keep. I ended up keeping Acoya, my cavalry fighter/druid, just because I was pretty sure 4e wouldn't allow me to reproduce her, and I thought the other characters would have a better chance. Calannna Elani Holimion was a L2 grey elf wizard when she got retired. She was a scholar of magic and nature, a scientist from an era when you could be moderately knowledgeable in every field of scientific study (in the modern world we specialize a lot more) - she wandered around with a walking stick and dissection kit, and insisted on pausing frequently to sketch interesting wildlife and take rock samples. She was fairly young, having just graduated from the Kershane college of magic, and eager to get some papers written and find a dissertation topic. She was going to end up investigating the particle/wave nature of light and become an Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil ;) Even at L1, she carried around a prism, and her lectures on this simple demonstration of the composite nature of white light tended to cause even quite formidable monsters to stop and stare blankly in utter confusion. (Her other scary L1 spell was her recitation of ancient Lendorian texts. Six seconds of it could reliably put non-elves to sleep.) She worshipped Celestian, god of stars and travellers, and ended up travelling to the Pale and joining their Arcanists' Guild, as their religion caused them to focus quite a bit on the nature of light. I think her most memorable line was, "NO! Not the books! You can't damage the books!" when her L1 party was getting attacked by an animated book swarm ;) It would have been fun to keep playing her, and to get to use some of the Initiate cheese at higher levels. Then there was Nakima, who never made it past L1. She'd been a novice archer in Rary's employ, part of a sisterhood of female warriors who worked for him, until her patrol got annihilated by Karistyne-friendly adventurers. She ran away and managed to escape, but she felt that she'd betrayed her sisters and her lord. Her goal was to get very, VERY good at what she did, enough so that she could return to the Bright Sands and her skill would be enough to outweigh her betrayal. She would have been a Lawful Neutral rogue/fighter/wizard/unseen seer specializing in archery, and essentially an Assassin without the PrC. If she'd ever made it to retirement, I would have tried to play a Bright Sands mod as the finale, and had her convert to LE and go work for Rary at the ending. I had other ideas, but these were the ones well-developed enough that they actually played intro mods. (And then there was Zarin, but I never really had a long-term plan for him.) My other characters mostly achieved their mechanical goals. Yolande, Liantir and Azrien all hit L16. Acoya reached L9, which is where her build's last major trick comes online - I want to play one game with her at L9 just to try out her full cavalry cheese, although it'll probably be an unofficial game at this point. I'd like to get Min to L13, and she's only L12 at the moment, but it turns out that even at L12 (four levels of Shadowcraft Mage) her shadowcheese is pretty awesome. |

(And then there was Zarin, but I never really had a long-term plan for him.) Ah, yes, Zarin. I do hope he didn't meet some untimely death at the battle of Law's Forge. I would have liked to check in on him more often, but it seems that thwarting Iuz is busy work. (Someone has to do it properly, and it certainly isn't Tenser.) |
| #11cycloptic_squirrelDec 31, 2008 15:40:10 | I had three characters that never really went above level three, though I was looking forward to them. Quiet Chuck almost never said a word, and roleplaying him was a lot of fun. Generic chain fighter, I was exited to splash in some UMD in a full BAB tank. Thunkar was just a fun dumb barbarian – I was going to use some bard to get him into Dragon Disciple. I had much fun with his name, which he wrote as a stick figure with a ridiculously large axe beheading a stick figure goblin; this was how I wrote his name on ARs too ![]() Finally with Sahra, I wanted to see how effective I could be with a six Con healer. I think I could have pulled it off with UMD and PrCing into Seeker of the Misty Isle. She never got above level one, but she was pretty effective there as 5 hp cure minors go a long way in an intro mod :D |
| #12ReylanceJan 02, 2009 13:54:05 | I was happy to get my fifteenth character, started in 2006, up to 14th level. The build was a slow one, requiring twelve levels (3 ranger, 3 swashbuckler, 2 wildrunner, 2 fighter, 2 champion of Corellon) to reach its goals, including one level with a 40% experience penalty. But in the end, I got to play with five attacks a round, 15-20 crit range, and Str, Int, and Dex added to damage. (As long as the enemies weren't &@^!&* immune to crits.) |
| #13sutroJan 10, 2009 9:07:09 | ] Jay, How about a Hexhammer build, warlock/rogue, that uses the pact hammer? Maxwell's pretty short, being a kid and all, so he could pull off being a dwarf. You could MC into rogue and also make bluff checks for CA if you wanted. -Sutro |
| #14solbergbJan 14, 2009 18:30:19 | Jarvis and Bertram never made it past level 2, although we had some very memorable intro mods. The idea was to play a noble twit and his faithful and much smarter manservant, in the Jeeves tradition. Making the noble a warmage just added spice. But he was a NICE warmage, well meaning. My other characters all found good endings. See the other thread |
| #15koushiroJan 15, 2009 1:57:06 | I was always disappointed when they revised the LGCS to disallow the NPC classes. I totally was going to make a human commoner and take it into a few mods. "What? Why are you looking at me? Your the adventurers!" It was going to be epic! |
