I was going to revamp the gunslinger and give him this, but then I realized that'd require a whole lot of work to rebalance the class just to add one ability.

Here it is in feat form:

Lightning Draw
Prerequisites: Quick Draw, Combat Reflexes, BAB 6, Dex 15
Benefit: Once per combat, draw a medium weapon as an immediate action (meaning at any time, even if it is not your turn). In addition, you may spend two attacks of opportunity to make a single attack on one target within the first range increment of your weapon. This second effect only applies in the turn in which a character activates the first use of the feat.

So a couple things, first does this ability just use up two of the AoO available through combat reflexes or does the target need to do two seperate things which provoke an AoO? Since you don't have a weapon ready nobody would provoke an AoO. So in order to use this feat you would need to already have a weapon ready, but you would need to drop that weapon and draw another one.

The idea was, and I guess this didn't come across, that you can draw a weapon as an immediate action (meaning first, or whenever you feel like it, probably during the first round of combat) and fire it by spending two of your attacks of opportunity. It isn't an attack of opportunity, but it uses them... mainly because I thought that'd be balanced. >>

It seems that many people build a 'gunslinger' based on an old western concept of walking around with your shooting iron riding on your hip, and then being able to whip it out real fast.

I say screw that, keep the gun in hand(s) unless you absolutely need to do something like type on a keyboard.

Like this guy being trained is doing

I think every segment of combat a gunslinger should be launching more accurate shots than any other classs. Link it to level or create a skill tree with feats or something.

I don't have my books in front of me, but IIRC you were supposed to be able to load 5 rounds into a magazine in one combat "round". That takes a long time.

Dropping an empty mag and slapping in a new one, while much faster, same thing. Another great feat would be quick reloads, but even still, compare these guys doing quick reloads to how quickly the engage multiple targets.

and yet that featured a draw. Time from draw and first 1 shot on target was much longer than the time it took to hit target 1 twice and then switch to target 2 and hit that twice as well
