| #1aleristhes33kerOct 10, 2009 15:35:25 | Hi there, I will soon start a d20 Future campaign in PL 7. After a little bit of Postapacalyptical earth, the PCs will be able to build their own spaceship. The big problem I have is this: How can someone build out the statistics of a ship? I do not mean selecting the ship and equipping it... More like, how to calculate the purchase DC of a ship? I'm thinking about a way to let my PCs be creative about their ship so they should choose how many Crewmembers, Cargo, HD and all that other stuff it has. So in short terms, my Question is: How to completely create a Spaceship and what is the HD/Purchase DC ratio?
Thanks in advance for the Help |

Really, that response will pretty much solve all of the problems you are going to run into if you try and use d20 Future. WORST book ever published. Only good thing to ever come out of that book was d20 Cyberscape and d20 Apocalypse.

Also quoting from the above: "BUILDING: Utilizing various item creation feats and skills, characters can feasibly craft their own starship. Doing so is both expensive and time consuming. Each component of a starship requires an item creation feat and related craft skill. Using the Craft (structural) skill, a character can build a starship hull and its facilities. Using the Craft (mechanical) skill, a character can build weapons, defense systems, and star drives. Using the Craft (electronic) skill, a character can build a ships computer. And finally, using the Computer Use skill, a character can add additional programs to a ships computer." Remember, all these have large associated monetary costs (materials, facilities & labor) and chunks of time. Converting all this to Purchase and/or Craft DCs may be a bit much from a GM/player's view point. So, I'm just going to recommend you plan out a series of skill checks, like 3-7 successes per part/area/system being constructed (add 2 more for each failure). Time is one week or fortnight or month per roll. Don't forget to include rolls for gathering the materials. DCs should all be 25-35, no taking 10 or 20 for any of these rolls. Having typed that, what about having the PCs role-play (not roll-play) thru the process of acquiring the ship? GM has players talk thru the story, each contributes to talking it out, story-telling the whole thing? and recommend some help Enjoy! let us know what you dicide and how it turns out. |
