Capsule Technology, Major Gadget applicable to Houses, Mecha, Vehicles, Starships, etcetera

Okay so here is what I had enter my head while reading the following thread community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...... in the anime Dragonball and Dragonball Z there is the ever useful Capsule Technology which allows for a house, vehicle, etcetera to be immediately shrunk down to a Palm sized capsule with a activation plunger one end that when pushed and thrown releases the stored item.

Capsule Technology was created to allow for any modern comfort of civilized society to be easily transported/carried by a single person into a wilderness or other such environment or to allow for larger shipments of ore to be sent.

So thoughts, suggestions and etcetera are welcome and this would have to be .

Here is what I thought up show far;

1A. Capsule Technology is built into the item that is stored within during the construction phase of the item.  This Technology say on a Fissionable Storage Tank could not capture the materials, however, the tank could be released, connected to a pump/extractor, and then disconnected and shrunk back down so the transport shuttle is carrying 50 capsule tanks of fissionable material.
Note: Capsule technology is different and unlike Sukebe's Pokeball technology which allows for the capture and storage of Pokegirls.

1B. Capsule technology cannot be used by themselves to capture gaseous or other materials though at PL 9 version

2.Single use capsules would see development around PL 7-8 which would allow for a house to be shrunk then released permamently in one other location. This allows for the GM the intention of less headaches.

3. Multiple use capsules would see development around PL 9 allowing for a house, mecha, vehicle to be shrunk, released and re-capsuled several times

4. The MU capsules utilizes a system of nano-turiazation circuitry weave and a bio-sensor to prevent the house/mecha/starship from being shrunk with someone inside... though a successful hack/bypass would negate the feature.

5. Should there be different capsules sizes as suggested by backstabbist... it would logical as the palm sized capsules could encapsule anything up to the Large category and say a bigger for Huge and above.

6. Capsules upon being pushed and thrown will activate only a flat level surface

7.

Comments/Suggestions by Backstabbist;
Wouldnt the Capsule Technnology limit be more along the lines of

  • Golfball Capsule: Medium or smaller {Maybe for the suitcase/storage crate for say NBC suits}

  • Billiardball Capsule: Large

  • Softball Capsule: Huge

  • Bowlingball Capsule: Gargan

  • Beachball Capsule: Colossal

We quickly run into a problem with the underlieing technologies thet make the Capsule operate.

If we say it is a Shrinker/Deshrinker,
then we encounter the problem of just leaving stuff shrunk and using it outside the capsule-
Have the shrinker destination set to outside the capsule and use a 1' long Battleship.

If we say it is a teleporter, that simply moves the target away from here to "storage" and moves it back... then we introduce the nightmare of personal Tactical Teleportation that always ends up ruining Star Trek campaigns.  If we can make a ball that teleports, we can make other balance breaking teleportation devices.

Either way, capsules cause problems:

  • 1ShotKill: Use the capsule as an offensive action to shink and ... uh,timestop(?) enemies.

  • Our weapon magazines just got a lot more capacity,
    if we have capsules at the bottom that just make another 25rounds appear each time the mag gets low.

  • Smart Armor: Threat detection sensors tell the armor computer when & where an incoming shot will hit, and the armor capsules out a 3"thick steel plate over that location.  Before the wearer can say "OMG this weighs a ton," the computer re-capsules the 3"plate 11milisec after the shot hits, so the wearer doesnt have time to fall down before the weight is gone again..

  • Acme Syndrome: You uncapsule a 1000lb Anvil / Piano / Elephantl over your enemy... squish

I'm still having Abuse nightmares

Such as taking the Capsule into an Argon Chamber,
and capturing a 64 cubic meter block of White Phosphorus and the 10cm of argon around it.

It adds a whole nuther level to the concept
Thrown Rock, ammo type: Very Incindiary
4500d6 Fire Damage, plus DC1 Catch Fire for 1000d6 each round till extinguished

What if it is used to capsulize just a single cubic meter of Sun Guts?
(that fisio-fuso plasma juice the sun is made up of)
Trust me, you dont want to get any of THAT on ya

Load the Tiny version Capsule into a musket, and fire it (plunger first) at someone,
When it hits the house is released INSIDE the target guys guts... its like an expanding hollow point, but insanely overdone to the extreem

@backstabbist... as always you bring another viewpoint to the discussion which I appreciate so lets say that in regards to the musket agenda that each capsule has a diameter limitation or a breaking stress point to prevent it from happening

You could also apply some kind of material limitation. But then you'll run into logical loopholes as why you can't fill a capsule with a gas or liquid, but the air and fuel tanks on your capsulized minisub are full...

Though ruling out filling a capsule filled with hot plasma is easy enough. Honestly, thats just silly.

Another way you could work around it is that capsules don't shrink things into them, things are specially built to be shrunk into capsules.

Can we please keep the idea RPG neutral so as to avoid AGB?

Again all good points... maybe a listing of items with the Capsule TEchnology already applied would be better for now... for example a cargo/freight container you see on ships that can fit a car or whatnot. Simply fill it and bam 2500lbs+ of cargo in the palm of your hand or the empty armory house, buy one and fill with you choice of weapons and ammo

So a brief list off the top of my head;

Storage Tanks
Cargo Containers
Mobile Armory Bunker

"Again all good points"

well.... maybe I did go a little over the top with the Plasma-ball Cool

yeah, it might be best to establish a list of stuff that is shrinkable

However, if we say an armory or cargo container can be filed with ammo,
as another pointed out
that leads to the logic problem of a Presto-ContainerGrenade (steelbox of 25000lb CompB)
since we can shrink explosives like the stuff inside the shrinkable ammo

Warning: Reducing the volume of 2500lb U235 may be hazzardous to your 200mile neighborhood

FYI, AGB stands for Artificial Game Balance. It basically means things that work a certain way only because they're used in games, rather than how they *should* be.

Hm...this board could use a FAQ/Information topic for acronyms and other pencil and paper roleplaying game terms. Anyone else think so?

I agree with the whole need for a pasted FAQ/Information topic on Acronyms/etcetera on the boards here. Would help to know for each or whatnot and also I am working out on paper a list of pre-Capsuled Technology applied items.

Though on the note of Backstabbist's 25000lbs of comp B capsuled I just see as a GM's BBEG or BNGG sending the good/EVIL guys a package with several such capsules to their moon base address with a detonator that fires off when its opened... well the planetary government always wanted a Death Star style defense station
