| #1trappedsliderMar 17, 2008 23:19:18 | As FL this idea was brought to my attention :
|
| #2backstabbistMar 17, 2008 23:32:52 | I think Future could reel in Cyber & Apoc, and straight Modern could take in Past, Leave Urban, cause that is too unlike straight Modern, Add the Char Optimization area, to limit heated opinion discussion to that zone, Add the Fiction section, cause ... you know... who doesnt like some fiction in their boards |
| #3j0ltMar 17, 2008 23:46:11 | I mostly agree with backstabbist. Modern HQ - d20 Modern - Urban Arcana (incl Dark*Matter) - d20 Future (incl. Apoc & Cyber) - d20 Past (could be it's own forum, or it could be folded into the main Modern board) No need for sub-forums. One of the things I like about the low traffic is that there are more core members, and it's much easier to keep up with. |
| #4trappedsliderMar 18, 2008 0:01:55 | - d20 Past (could be it's own forum, or it could be folded into the main Modern board) I was thinking d20 past could be folded into the d20 historial,or the other way around. |
| #5rappy_dupMar 18, 2008 0:14:52 | I am not so sure I like the sound d20 Past folding into d20 Historical, since the d20 Historical board is just as brain-dead at times, and if not that, tending to lean toward D&D. More breathing room for ancient campaigns in the fresh air of Modern General. I must cast my nod of agreement with backstabbist and j0lt's separation concept. |
| #6j0ltMar 18, 2008 0:21:15 | I was thinking d20 past could be folded into the d20 historial,or the other way around. While they're similar, d20 Past is a much more broad "genre". It can include fantasy elements, as well as historical, so in that respect, I'd recommend folding historical into d20 Past. However, I'm not sure whether that would be better, or if folding d20 Past into Modern would be... |
| #7trappedsliderMar 18, 2008 1:12:05 | While they're similar, d20 Past is a much more broad "genre". However, I'm not sure whether that would be better, or if folding d20 Past into Modern would be... WEll,i wasn't sure and was glad that you have put your voice into the mix since i was gonna ask you about the historical and past, since you hang aorund both from what i can tell... |
| #8bitter_thornMar 18, 2008 1:24:51 | I like the forums as they stand . |
| #9j0ltMar 18, 2008 1:31:31 | I'd be hanging around 'em still if I hadn't lost all my notes when my old computer died. ![]() |
| #10trappedsliderMar 18, 2008 1:37:29 | I mostly agree with backstabbist. Well,I think i'm gonna take this suggestion to the higher ups and see what they say... |
| #11j0ltMar 18, 2008 4:57:07 | Sweet deal, keep up the good work! |
| #12TheRealOrionMar 18, 2008 10:26:07 | Hey, thanks for responding to that comment! I think combining discussion fora (which is the plural of "forum", sorry, pet peeve) will increase traffic, get conversations going across genres, and generally liven things up. It's always heartbreaking, to me, to go to the Future area and see less than a page worth of posts, total. I'd be in favour of putting it all in one big forum, myself, but that doesn't seem to be the consensus. |
| #13j0ltMar 18, 2008 11:24:46 | I can see how putting it all into one forum would increase the traffic for all genres/settings involved, but it'd just be too cluttered for my tastes. |
| #14backstabbistMar 18, 2008 11:39:14 | Orion, I thought about the traffic, but sometimes it is just better to not have to wade thru folks suggesting future gadgets & classes for your WW2 thread. As we have it now,it is kinda implied that the Modern forum dosnt have that junk unless specificly mentioned. Future gets some posts, but Apoc hardly moves along, and Cyber is almost stagnant. Put them all together, you wouldnt mind so much if PL7 stuff gets suggested in a cyber or apoc thread, since so many of those games do transpire ahead of us on the calander. Past is hardly even a subset of Modern, most of the chat there is Steam to WW2, which didnt really need a book other than CRB + some equipment stats.... and a lot of those stats are for stuff we talk about stating in the main forum. |
| #15ranger_regMar 18, 2008 19:12:23 | So,what do you all think? The d20 Modern Campaign Setings forums could have sub-forums. |
| #16TheRealOrionMar 18, 2008 19:24:06 | So you'd suggest we have a "Future" section that includes Cyber and Apoc, and then a "Modern" section that includes Past and UA? That works for me, actually (in as far as anyone's asking my opinion). |
| #17trappedsliderMar 19, 2008 0:33:37 | The d20 Modern Campaign Setings forums could have sub-forums. I'm confuesd,which isn't hard to do,lol,so could you please explain what you mean? |
| #18backstabbistMar 19, 2008 14:13:09 | I was thinking of the base types Steel: Modern & Past in one forum Science: Future, Cyber, Apoc in the second forum Spooks: UA & Dark in the third WHEN they come out with d20 Ubers it would go in with the Spooks Sure the lions share of post would still be in the main Modern, but we wouldnt have the special stuff like magic & PL8 stuff chatted in straight Modern threads. Like we dont expect to have to tangent every gun thread on how bad the Gadget system is if folks understand that Gadgets are not part of the discussion in base Modern. And we dont talk about TUs in UA. And we dont talk about zombies in... oh, well I guess we do talki about zombies everywhere... but thats just the way Zombies roll. |
| #19TheRealOrionMar 19, 2008 17:42:48 | Well, the whole thing will be revamped when the 4e version of d20M comes out, so no need to think that far ahead. I suppose the easiest thing to do is divide by era. The "Modern" area would include UA, Shadow Chasers, and "Past" (early-modern history ain't that long ago). The "Future" area would include Cyber and Apoc. |
| #20trappedsliderMar 19, 2008 18:18:08 | I've submitted jolt's idea and currently waiting for CM to respond |
| #21ranger_regMar 19, 2008 19:01:04 | I'm confuesd, which isn't hard to do,lol,so could you please explain what you mean? Well, instead of having the [smallcaps]Urban Arcana[/smallcaps] sub-forum under the current d20 Modern forum, put it under the campaign setting forum and expand to include [smallcaps]Dark*Matter[/smallcaps] and future setting forums. Personally, I'd do away with sub-forums altogether. |
| #22trappedsliderMar 19, 2008 23:10:28 | Well, instead of having the [smallcaps]Urban Arcana[/smallcaps] sub-forum under the current d20 Modern forum, put it under the campaign setting forum and expand to include [smallcaps]Dark*Matter[/smallcaps] and future setting forums. So,using Jolt's model it would look like this : Modern HQ - d20 Modern(Urban Arcana,Dark*Matter) - d20 Future (incl. Apoc & Cyber) - d20 Past Is that what you mean or is this it Modern HQ - d20 Modern General - Settings (Urban Arcana,Dark*Matter,d20 Future,Apoc & Cyber,d20 Past) |
| #23TheRealOrionMar 20, 2008 1:08:16 | My vote, for what it's worth: Modern HQ - d20 Modern (Urban Arcana, Dark*Matter, Past) - d20 Sci-Fi (Future, Apoc, Cyber) Past only goes back to the 19th century, generally. It's not far enough in the past to be significantly different, and not nearly big enough, as a discussion area, to need its own space. PS: has anyone else noticed that the thread title is "combing" and not "combining"? |
| #24trappedsliderMar 20, 2008 1:11:33 | My vote, for what it's worth: oh hush about my spelling skills...for i am the FL and should get a little leeway:P |
| #25backstabbistMar 20, 2008 1:23:19 | its code, man! I thought Combing was txtmsg-speak for Combining ;) |
| #26ranger_regMar 20, 2008 3:33:44 | So,using Jolt's model it would look like this : This... Modern HQ |
| #27nemafowMar 20, 2008 4:03:00 | My vote, for what it's worth: I always thought he was 'combing' the boards (searching) and found someone mentioning a re-arrangement. But txting works too ![]() |
| #28TheRealOrionMar 20, 2008 11:50:43 | Ranger REG, I don't think that's helping. It seems about as cluttered as what we have now. The idea is for fewer fora, not more or the same amount. The subdividing is not helping us, here. It's taking already fairly small conversations and isolating them. The people in Past might be talking about something interesting, but I don't see it, so I don't take part. So like I said, two fora: d20 Modern (Modern, UA, Darkmatter, Past) d20 Future (Future, Cyber, Apoc) That's it. |
| #29trappedsliderMar 20, 2008 12:19:54 | Thanks reg for explaning it for me,lol, but from what I can gleane from what Soilice has said during the discussion of creating a new subforum for another part of the board Is there a way to envision this without using a subforum? |
| #30trappedsliderMar 28, 2008 21:20:53 | heres what CM is thinkingHere's what we're thinking: |
| #31j0ltMar 28, 2008 23:26:59 | Not bad... What is the fundamental difference between d20 General and d20 Modern? Instead, how about this: d20 HQ -- d20 Community Business - Replaces board business forum -- As the Die Rolls - Off-topic forum for the D20 Community d20 Fundementals -- d20 Modern (general modern boards) -- Urban Arcana (fantasy campaigns: Urban Arcana/Shadow Chasers/Dark*Matter) -- d20 Past & Future -- d20 Character Devlopment & Optimization |
| #32backstabbistMar 28, 2008 23:58:19 | a) We had a board business forum? It needed replacing? b) i: Given my posting style, would I be allowed out of the Off-Topic forum at all? b) ii: Will you guys come visit me? c) Apoc/Cyber seem to have lost their homes: They need to be listed under a forum |
| #33trappedsliderMar 29, 2008 0:03:53 | a) We had a board business forum? It needed replacing? A> Yea theres an BB forum, but it was way way up there in the D&D area,it was a catch all B>i: no:P (in fact your just forbidden from talking about guns in any thread in the d20 modren area):P b>ii yes C>I'll pass this along iwth jolt's ocunter proposal up the ladder |
| #34trappedsliderApr 10, 2008 13:13:57 | RPG Forum Oganization from whihc this quote is takenRPG should include everything that isn't a WotC brand. d20 and d20 modern will be covered under RPG for now. When more d20 products are released by WotC we'll look into creating their own forums at that time. |
| #35backstabbistApr 10, 2008 14:08:38 | Oh man! That is pretty harsh, not even of their brand anymore? |
| #36trappedsliderApr 10, 2008 23:07:33 | Oh man! Tell me baout it..i asked him to clarify and this is what i got : I'm not exactly sure when our last d20 Modern product was released, but we generally move forums to the legacy area 1 year after the last release. In this case, it seems better for the health of the forums to include them in the RPG section rather than to make them legacy. |
| #37nemafowApr 11, 2008 1:50:42 | The big man craps on the little man. |
| #38trappedsliderApr 14, 2008 16:26:03 | heres the offical thread where everything is being talked out RPG Forum Organization go there and VOICE your concerns or else![]() |
| #39backstabbistApr 15, 2008 0:22:51 | I'm not sure they want my concerns. I left a concern there, and I think it got Poofed. I'm not above messing up hitting the Post button, I've failed to get posts up before... but I'm thinking I did post on that other forum and it got poofed. Anyhoo, Us Modern "not woc brand" guys better watch our backs round the non-stepchild forums I guess. |
| #40trappedsliderApr 15, 2008 0:49:29 | ![]() I'm not sure they want my concerns. I saw your comment over there |
| #41trappedsliderApr 23, 2008 18:13:03 | Heres the newest train of thought, We'll be getting cut down to two forums for all of gaming needs....Here it is with seTiny's suggested addition just lcick on the quote so you can go and voice your thoughts...otherwise we oculd lost just about all but tow of our forums |
| #42autumn_sereneApr 24, 2008 16:38:27 | I'm also going to put out the plea to go to the aforementioned thread and make your voice heard. I'm going to ask that this thread is stickied until the reorg to make sure everyone see it.Not bad... Just want to make it clear that the new Other RPG's cover two totally different areas of the boards. The d20 System, which includes the CharOp boards as well as the thinktanks, has nothing to do with d20 Modern. So when we look at the reorg, please make suggestions about the d20 Modern section and I'm asking the regulars on the thinktanks and charop boards to do the same. d20 General is the general board for the d20 System games and mostly the place where people ask about d20 and OGL rules in terms of game design. Definitely pretty unfocused so to make it more of a general board for all non-D&D and Star Wars games will help it. |
| #43trappedsliderApr 24, 2008 17:26:32 | I'm also going to put out the plea to go to the aforementioned thread and make your voice heard. I'm going to ask that this thread is stickied until the reorg to make sure everyone see it. Can we also get the title fixed, due to my spelling ablity it was combin instead combining, lol |
| #44autumn_sereneApr 24, 2008 20:42:58 | Can we also get the title fixed, due to my spelling ablity it was combin instead combining, lol Haha, I thought it added to its charm Will do though. |
| #45trappedsliderApr 24, 2008 23:09:08 | Haha, I thought it added to its charm Thanks,your a life saver (your favorit flavor of crouse) |
| #46trappedsliderApr 28, 2008 22:22:53 | RPG General Discussion and heres the counter proposal Ok, this is minimalist. The threads found in the boards listed as being combined into give hundreds of examples of the types of threads that could be found. This list is much more comprehensive and efficient then the one proposed above. |
| #47j0ltApr 29, 2008 3:45:51 | Autumn_serene's counter proposal FTW! |
| #48trappedsliderApr 29, 2008 12:59:42 | ![]() RPG General Discussion |
| #49trappedsliderApr 29, 2008 15:17:29 | :hoppingma ![]() ![]() [forum=810]Well, it seems any further discussion of forum layout is moot[/forum]. |
| #50j0ltApr 30, 2008 23:23:13 | Perhaps you should request that this thread is re-named again. Perhaps we could call it "Deleting the d20 Modern Community". ![]() |
| #51trappedsliderApr 30, 2008 23:33:10 | Perhaps you should request that this thread is re-named again. ouch..... |
| #52backstabbistMay 01, 2008 19:37:42 | Well, on the bright side, soon there will be a reason to bump threads every 2 weeks. I dont get the logic: There is very little traffic, so its getting combined. Well, wouldnt that imply that it takes very little resources to leave up? |
| #53trappedsliderMay 09, 2008 13:12:47 | Well,it looks like the move will happen some time soon, hopefully CM will make an annoucnement, but don't count on it. EDIT:Now that we've been moved, hoepfully they will give fair warning before gutting the forum... |
| #54backstabbistMay 09, 2008 20:39:52 | So, how many negative hours do I have to copy the Coreline Bunker compendium thread to home archive? |
| #55rhialtoMay 10, 2008 2:57:21 | Persoanlly, I'm all in favour of the d20 modern boards being in a section, even a sub-section of the general d20 boards. Being sequestered in the "miscellaneous stuff gleemax is made to host" section sucks big time. |
| #56trappedsliderMay 10, 2008 21:34:48 | So, how many negative hours do I have to copy the At this point,i don't know.... |
| #57trappedsliderMay 11, 2008 17:16:56 | We got even trouble heading out way....Attack of the d20s go forth and post your comments |
| #58nemafowMay 11, 2008 19:11:55 | I just don't want to get involved >.> It's already bad enough, I just don't want to poke the fire with a stick :P |
| #59backstabbistMay 12, 2008 10:02:46 | I went there & voiced my opinion. I hope it doesnt get dissappeared in an hour like the last time. I gave them my , but I think it turned out to be more like a BuckThirtyFive[INDENT][indent] You take the name of each sub-forum and get rid of the d20 part. d20 MODERN is a WoC product line, a WoC different game with several woc books, it is not gurps/anime/ww in todays setting. To continue this path would allow for me to suggest "fantasy" gurps/anime/ww/palaidum be allowed into the Dungeons&Dragons product line area. When talking about "d20Modern", please keep in mind a better reference to it would be "WoC Modern" as opposed to thinking it is any BESM/gurps set in todays world. "d20 modern-setting" is D&D with guns, or anime/gurps/paladium/besm WoC Modern ("d20 Modern" game books by woc) is not that. Why they pulled the sub-boards for WoC modern out & put them equal to the core game... I dont know. If you wanted D&D Monster info, would you look in RPGs:d20Monsters or would you look in D&D:Monsters. That is the level of layout we have now, they took the WoC Modern: Future and pulled it out like some kind of Gurps/paladium/anime chat room about playing in the future. It is annoying that what we do now is like going to the D&D board, but have to back out of D&D to get to "Complete D&D-Ninja" board or "Unearthed D&D-Nitpicks". Those obviously should be SubBoards of D&D, just as WoCFuture is a subboard of the WoCModern game[/INDENT][/indent] |

| #62TheRealOrionMay 12, 2008 14:52:45 | So, is what we have now the final form of the fora, for the forseeable future? Or is it going to change again? I remember hearing about a "transition period" of some kind. Are win in that? |
| #63trappedsliderMay 12, 2008 14:56:17 | So, is what we have now the final form of the fora, for the forseeable future? Or is it going to change again? I remember hearing about a "transition period" of some kind. Are win in that? I do believe that we are in the transition period. |
| #64backstabbistMay 12, 2008 22:46:34 | Holy cow. I just took a long & clickful trip to Nowheresville after thinking "D20 Modern Fiction, hmmm, that sound like fun" The highlight ofthe journey was a post from TS that was basicly What's this? We have Fiction? a long time ago So what is the deal? The d20Modern Fiction link to the Legondolgy that is really OnceUponATime that dont go anywhere.... I dndt know what it was supposed to be or what it used to be, but what is is now is CONFUSING! I have reams of BigAl & Jimmy The Squealer that need to be cleaned up & published (after I smack it with a PlotStick and get it to make sense) |
| #65trappedsliderMay 12, 2008 23:42:29 | Holy cow. I'll take a poke aorund and tell you where to post it...... EDIT: Go here |
