| #1frosty14May 05, 2009 18:32:46 | I am planning on starting a conspiricy/ Horror campaign. I want to run this by and see what you all think of the what I am planning on using. And some of the beginning adventure ideas That I have written up and have running through my melon. I plan on using the WotC Cthulhu and the Dark Matter in addition to the D20 modern rules. I am not quite sure if I am going to use any thing from the blood & relicssupplement that was put out by another company. Classes, skills and feats can be chosen from either the D20 or the Cthulhu. I plan on using the magic system out of the Cthulhu, I like the way it was done. The starting scenario will start in the home of one of our gamers, It is just down the street from the Frontier prison here in Rawlins. It involves some animated corpses (responding Cops) and some cultists summoning a entity in one of the guard towers. The PC's fight the animated corpses at the home then when they look out side they see the flashing lights from the cop cars down the street. Another adventure I have planned out involves a historical inmate at that same prison. At that place there was a real inmate who was executed in the gas chamber there. His crime was that he ate the faces off of a couple of small girls. He was concidered deranged by the prison officials. When he was executed in the gas chamber three times (I believe it was that number) his heart stopped and started. Regardless he spent a real long time in the chamber. My story starts with the museum Staff finding a teenager in the morning in D Block, and of course the face is eaten off. Here is a side note. My wife and I have been in that prison a couple of times. It is kinda creepy. Well, I was tellling this story to my wife and see told me about and "encounter" that she had at D block. She told me that she had seen a face lunge with it's mouth open at her from out of a cell when she had looked in. So I asked her about what she had seen. She had described a face not unlike the inmate in question. She told me wich sell it ws and I knew that it was that inmates cell. Another story I am planning on running takes place at the Ft. Steele area. I have a friend who told me a creepy story about whathappened to him at his home around Ft. Steele. Anyway, him and his family heard some strange sounds comming from out past their barn.It was night time, on the real late side. My friend took his Springfield Armory XD .45 and a went to check things out. I told him he was stupid not to have taken a flashlight with him. Being that he is a 22yr. old college student I can see why he forgot it. out a little past the barn it is overgrown with scrub willows. It was a pretty bright night out, so visibility was not to bad out. Just inside the willows he saw a shadow move. It appeared to have two legs and was walking hunched over and was kind of big. He fired a round into the ground between him and the thing. I gave an "angry growl" and slowly retreated further into the brush. He backed away from the area untill he got to the dooor of the house. Now they do have problems every once in a great while with moutain lions. He knows what they look like even in the dark. This he said was not a lion. Now take this and give it a few twists and elaborate. I think that this would make a great story to RPing. One more scenario I am putting together involves a area around the Baggs / Savory area. Out there some where is an area that is devoid of plant life, insects and wildlife. I have a friend that has a friend (I know), Who is kinda like one of the "men in black" (read CIA/NSA). Well anyway there are supposedly more of thses kinds of areas around the USA that just this one. Prolonged exposure from what I gather can lead to crazed behavior, from what I gather. True or not I do not care. It has some awsome potential for any type of horror or conspiricy/alien game. So what do you think of the premisis for my campaign and some of the scenarios? |
| #2gordjohnsonMay 06, 2009 3:54:07 | im running a party threw a conspiracy game that's also dark matter and perhaps a few elements from Cthulhu. what i've started them with the premade darkmatter adventure "exit 23" and im going to be leading them down a path thats going to have revelation after revelation about the corruption in the Vatican (there being a large infiltration by the final church) i think something that will help you a lot is knowing where you're going to be going with the game, otherwise it might just turn into weird story after weird story. or even worse fight scene after fight scene. if you have the cal of Cthulhu d20 and dark matter books, read those moffs front to back because they're filled to the **** with great advise. i think there should only be one fight scene per sitting (this isn't D&D), really build it up, don't let them see it but let them see what it can do. also if the want to run a real horror game you should probably lower the hit points of the players (once again this isn't D&D and the players sure as hell aren't heroes, they're just people), so just drop a die: d10 = d8 = d6 = d4 = d2 as far as you're adventure ideas, they sound like you've got something to start with, when it comes to horror adventures all you really need to get started is the monster and think about what it would be doing in modern society or how it would be hiding and hunting. |

| #4gordjohnsonMay 06, 2009 18:06:24 | not that those are bad ideas, but everyone on the alternity forums seem to agree the best way to get your party involved with the institute is running the "exit 23" and my players we real big fans. we were up at 5 in the morning finishing it up and they just wanted more, and the following days they kept talking about how cool it was. give it a read over, even just for taking elements from it to use. |
