| #1dekadesJun 15, 2008 17:55:15 | I've looked through the boards and haven't found anything on this topic. It looks like things are drying up here though, perhaps I'll post this in one of the other boards if nothing pops up here. I've started to use D20 Modern (and its variants and add-on systems) as my D20 version of GURPS. That is, I use it as a generic world in which I can create any type of game. Though I don't think that was the intention, it works well for it. I'm running a game that has the players starting as characters that are apart of a Native American tribe (circa 50 years before the first European settlers arrived to Plymouth). Game mechanically this mean Progress Level Zero (PL 0), or Stone Age. Are there, or has any third party / homebrew, come up with a compendium to address the world, skills, equipment, of a PL 0 campaign (or a PL 1 or 2, for that matter)? D20 past begins at PL 3, the Age of Reason. As it is, I'm just taking much of D20 Modern (and some, though surprisingly little of D20 Past), and either not applying it to my game or changing it a little so that it is applicable. I'm also using much of the Archaic weapons (giving the players Archaic Weaps Prof, instead of Simple Weaps Prof) and tweaking some of them to apply (I have no stats for a simple bow and arrow, just for a composite bow and a longbow). Any direction would be great. I'll figure it out otherwise ![]() |

Not sure if thats an option for you though. |

I found an old book mentioned,From Stone to Steel put out by Highmoon Media, but its long since out of print. A demo can be found HERE. But that pdf only includes the table of contents, some articles, and the index. Hmm, I'm working on modding some of the current D20 modern stats to fit my campaign. For instance, I took the Javelin (1d6, 30ft) and allowed the use of an atlatlas a full round action to make the damage and range (1d6 +2, 40ft). We'll see how it works. |

You might want to make some weapons Simple (everyday weapons such as javelins, bows and axes, instead of giving the players access to all kinds of weapon proficiencies (stuff that wouldn't be usable by them normally)... My 2cc. |

Not only does it have archaic weapons, it also has stone age skills and feats like tracking, tanning, etc that d20 modern simply does not have. There are also more detailed rules on mounted combat (and it you're doing 50 years prior to Plymouth, the Spanish would have already introduced horses to central and North America). Some of the 3.5 character types might work as well, particularly the Barbarian, Druid and Ranger. Finally, I suggest reading The Columbian Exchange, a non roleplay book. It gives a very compelling account of the biological impact of European colonization on North Amercia, such as spread of diseases, impact of Spanish cattle herding on fauna and flora, introduction of horses, impact on culture etc. |

If you are running a pre-Jamestown campaign in which the Spanish have already come to the new world, a nifty scenario might be for your intrepid party to go get some of the strange four legged beasts that the Spaniards ride. |
