D20 Future, decent expansion?

I just picked up D20 Modern Core rule book back in December, and i wasn't sure about D20 future or not , I don't really want to migrate to Shadowrun I'm comfortable with the WoTC game mechanics, it's an easy transistion from D&D to d20 Modern. and the Spells/foes are even related.

What i really want to know is, is the d20 Future a worth while expansion? I also noticed that there was a supplement to the expansio as far as Future tech and the Cybescape which i'm planning on purchasing if i get decent response.

also as far as character sheets go, is ther any in the back of the d20 Future expansion or can i just go off of the d20 Modern Char sheet?

Mar 14, 2010 23:54:04 The most common reaction to Future has been that it's very broken in its balancing of options, but that it's a pretty good book of bits and bobs that you can add to a sci-fi game if you, as GM, make very sure that you decide consciously which elements of the book to bring in. Basically, I'm told, just don't trust that book.

and even dont work well with the Modern CRB.

While the book has some good ideas, the mechanics and stats of how that idea is implemented are broken a lot of the time. If you do get the book, be sure to bring up the kind of game you want in this board, and we can identify where the problems are and point to a bunch of solutions we've found.

Most im[portantly, treat the book as a GM resource.
It is not a shopping list for the players, because almost everything needs to get adjusted to actually work with the d20Modern-Future game.

Download and look over the Future SRD,
then ask us about parts you are interested in so we can warn you of the sinkholes and give you some options to fix it.

One example:
Since WW2 we have been developing and issuing antitank weapons to infantry, and those weapons have increased power as tank tech increased armor
... the Bazooka --> 72LAW --> AT4 --> Dragon ...and now we have the Javelin that kills even Abrams. However, in the future when we put tank armor not just on tanks but have guys walking around wearing tank armor (mecha), for some reason we stop making antitank weapons for infantry and issue 72LAW museum rockets to them to use in PL7.... we stop making AT weapons when tank armor becomes commonplace???

As for working together,
check the shot range of an Abrams, a Mech Recoiless, and the Assault Fighter

Mostly on starships, but there were a few good ones on armor. It would be nice to get links for them all in one place, or at least a few of the better ones. I can't even remember the user name of one guy who did the most. I've really been away for too long.

P.S. I'll certainly be saving some threads to my HD, just in case this forum decides not to exist anymore.

It would be nice to get links for them all in one place, or at least a few of the better ones. I can't even remember the user name of one guy who did the most. I've really been away for too long.

It was Cyber-Dave who redid those rules I think. He said himself that you are better off using SAGA starship rules and I agree. If you are looking for other alternative rules you can also drop by : modernd20unlimited.freeforums.org/
