| #1maninthehatApr 18, 2010 2:14:28 | First off WTF? On page 122 of the book in question it lists the charts for newly added weapons to the D20 Modern system.
My question is; why do they list in description BOTH a Wave Pistol and a Wave Rifle, but only have stats for the Wave Pistol recorded?
I could proberly guess its about a 3d8 for damage and maybe 8 to 11lbs, with an 50-80box.
Next question why is the Wave Pistol/Rifle PL5 when the fact it isn't effected by Energy Resistance makes it superior to the PL6 Laser Pistol? I understand the Wave Pistol is Purchase DC19 and the Laser Pistol is Purchase DC17.
So if your PL5 you've got a very nice, little pricy, energy weapon. And say the Laser Pistol is still a protoytpe in its earlier stages of distrubution meaning that it is technically one PL higher then the campaign meaning that its adjusted price is acctually a Purchase DC22! So your telling me that you have to shell out $3,500 for a weapon that is less effective, as compared to $1,500 for the better, older version?
On the OTHER end of the spectrum if the campaign is PL6 then the Laser Pistol is a Purchase DC17, but since the Wave Pistol is now an older technology its now an adjusted Purchase DC17. So now that were in the future we can get discounts on our top-grade cutting edge muesum worthy weapon from an entire century ago, or pay more for our less effective 'modern' day lower technology standard.
I guess they really don't build them like they used to. Is it me, or did the writers of the FPC (Future Players Companion) just want to stick it to D20 Future and say 'I'm better then you are'.
So lets review my questions!
What are the stats for the Wave Rifle?
Why is the Wave Pistol/Rifle superior to the Laser Pistol/Rifle, but of a lower PL?
P.s. I always adjust the Wave Pistol to PL6, sometimes PL7 based on the campaign style. |

That is one of the great mysteries of life. Presuming the same growth as that of a laser pistol to a laser rifle, it would indeed most likely be 3d8 damage and a 50-box ammunition case.
Why is the Wave Pistol/Rifle superior to the Laser Pistol/Rifle, but of a lower PL?
The wave rifle is indeed erroneously listed as PL 5, but the wave pistol (at least in my PDF copy) is correctly listed as PL 6, so the former is merely an error. |
