Okie my first official post!

I have a big question which is haunting in at least 3 campaigns I am part of; Are there detailed vehicle creation rules? I have found several "parts" but nothing solid. My fellow players and GMs feel the rules in the book are vague and incomplete. Sure we can make Mecha, lots of great stuff about that or even spacecraft creation. But what about rules for APCs, Aircraft and other small vehicles. I did find a small pdf, but it too is vague and incomplete.

Some specific questions.

Is there a cost by size? (mecha and starships have that).
Is there a "slot" based rule like mecha for gear and weapons? This would make sense to me to keep people from building extremely overpowered tanks ect. Of course Slots would be hard when it comes to crew/passenger sizes above 1 or 2 or for cargo.

What about engines? Fuel limits ect?
Cargo limits? Maybe something based on size?
Def bonuses? The one PDF I found does at least list armor options.

I suppose I could make up rules. But I would like to see if there are some solid ones in existence already.

One more Question. Any Powerarmor rules? Powerarmor would be more cost effective and balancing in the game, but there seems to be no rules on creation. We have some house rules but I'd like to see something more official.

Thanks!

d20 Mecha covers ALL of the above, see the link in my sig.

So does the Mecha Compendium. It has some stuff reprinted from d20 mecha, as well as new stuff (powered armor designs, mecha, vehicles, etc). It also has ideas for several different campaigns ranging from fantasy to space opera to sci-fi/horror. Both books are good reads.

Its the same ruleset. The Compendium is just these rules in addition to, as you said, some example campaigns and mecha designs. Including d20 versions of Dream Pod 9's Gear Krieg, Jovian Chronicles, and Heavy Gear games.

Personally I'd recommend the Mecha Compendium Deluxe Edition if you're looking for a printed book. As well as supplementing it with a book called "Modern Military Vehicles" which, as the title implies, stats modern military vehicles from all over the world using the d20 Mecha construction rules.

But if you're satisfied with just the rules, the link in my sig leads to a good, clean, and easy to read version of the d20 Mecha SRD.

Great stuff! Thanks a bunch!

One Question, what really separates Power Armor from Mecha based on the rules in this pdf? I think of Power Armor being far more limited than a mech in ability and options. Am I missing something?

Otherwise this PDF is awsome Even covers things I had not thought of.

Sorry to be **** about this, but 2 of my players play "techie" types. I get headaches trying to think of fair rules for them to costume build or modify stuff.

Suits/power armor are the same size category as the wearer and just function as worn armor that provides a STR bonus, Hardness, and whatever extra special abilities/built in equipment the suit has.

Be warned though: Unfortunately for some people, d20 Mecha doesn't have an inherent system of limitations beyond "the more you add, the more expensive it is" other than your own judgment and common sense. The system is best utilized for DMs designing their own mecha and equipment lists, or if the DM and players work together when customizing. One of the easiest ways to put your own limitations on this is to simply have caps based on the size of the intended mecha.
