D20 GSL and Core Rules (I'm New)

Jun 24, 2011 21:53:49 I'm very new, please forgive my ignorance.
A long time ago the Wizards GSL FAQs states they would be coming out with a Modern/Sci Fi version of the GSL named D20 GSL, but a search for that doesn't lead me to anything. In addition the only D20 Modern rules I can find are from 3.5. Is there anything that you guys know of on either of these topics. I'm lost in the dark and would appriciate any light someone wants to provide. Thank you!

Jun 25, 2011 8:07:02 Unfortunately, Wizards pretty much abandoned d20 Modern shortly after Dark Matter was released. The superhero expansion that was supposed to come out never did. Anything like a modern/sci fi version of a GSL is pretty much none existent. There are the SRDs for modern and future, but that's it.

Jun 25, 2011 13:32:37 The only SRD for D20 I've found is the 3.5 one, is there a 4e version. I'm starting to wonder if maybe just using 3.5 would be easiest.

What you see, as 3.0/3.5, is what there is. I think someone somewhere was doing a pathfinder version of Modern, but that's just an updated 3.5 ed basically.

Jun 27, 2011 11:49:56 Some people are making fan created 4e Modern conversions here. But honestly, I'd look into the 3e version rules. They are free, after all.

Jun 27, 2011 20:23:07 WotC never released a 4e version of d20 Modern. The GSL is just the license that replaced the OGL for 4e. WotC did release Gamma World, which is a 4e sci-fi/post-apocalyptic game but it deviates widely from standard 4e and is more of a beer & pretzels game.

If you are interested in a modern ruleset for 4e, check out Dias Ex Machina. They are a GSL publisher. They have already released Amethyst, which adds modern/sci-fi material to D&D and is compatible with the standard D&D fantasy classes (the canon setting has both magic and technology in the same world). They should be releasing Ultramodern4 relatively soon, which is a purely modern/sci-fi ruleset for 4e (with some deviations, such as ladders, which I really love) and a sci-fi setting for that ruleset called Neurospasta (which also includes a hacker class called the Manipulator).
