Hey everyone, so here's an adventure I want to run with my regular group. The government have caught wind of a terrorist dissident having secured a place in this years big brother house, however they don't know which housemate it is.  It is the heroes task to pose as other housemates in order to discover the terrorist before they take the house hostage live on national tv.

I'm struggling with writing the actual nitty gritty of the scenario however, so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know?

Many thanks

Aw, man. I thought this was going to be a thread about Nineteen Eighty-Four as a game setting. I got all excited.

Good luck with your thing, though.

As for the nitty-gritty stuff, what is known about the attack?

Lo as I walk thru the valley of destruction disease & demise,
my head shal be heavy and drawn,
for it was fun while it lasted, but my work here is done.

Sure I can loan you some pages from Backstabbist's Big Book Of Bedlam,
but I need to know the Int and Ded and Cha scores of the badguy, to fit a proper degree of Misdirection, Disinformation, and Subterfuge.  How well is he financed or supplied, and what degree of support staff can he get tasked to him?

Heres an oldie but a goodie:

Tango leaks to CIA that a tango got into the show.
Tango then also leaks to Interpol and Massad that a tango got on the show.
And for fun he leaks to the FBI and LAPD AT-Taskforce.

Tango surveils the show execs, and waits till the CIA tell the show to put one of their men inside, then watches the other agencies tell the show execs to put their man inside.  Then Tango approaches the show exec and claims to be Texas Rangers, and tell the execs to put one of their men inside.  The execs are so used to cops putting agents inside that they dont even want to see the fake badges Tango made.

Its fun to find the mole in a group of guys,
but it is hilarious to try to find the right mole in a group of moles.

Thanks for that Backstabbist,

The attack will probably be a suicide bombing, perhaps using a device carried internally. If not the bomber willl need to have at least 1 ally on the shows staff to help smuggle the bomb in. I see the terrorists stats being fairly average, but maybe having a high wisdom or charisma score representing their fanaticism for their cause. (which for the purposes of my campaign is the reintergration of the Ukraine into Mother Russia). My real issues is that this will be the first time I have written a scenario that i expect to have no combat until the climax, as such I'm struggling to work out how to get enough interaction and intrigue into it without boring my players with endless diplomacy/bluff/gather inf rolls.

What do you all suggest?

There is a problem with the effect of a suicide bombing vs the big picture goals of a dissident:
he would have to find a way to have the bomb kill the largest number of people,
WHILE not killing the TV crew or damaging the cameras,
so the horrible carnage and death can be broacast (and of course Youtubed after the censors stop airing the horror)

While we have AntiTank explosives, and AntiPersonel explosives, we even have AntiBunker ordinence and my favorite AntiMedic munitions.... we have yet to develop a bomb that kills everyone but dont hurt journalists or damage cameras.

When faced with an opponent with high tech,
get oldschool on his heinie.

Black Plague.

Have Tango chug down a tall cool glass of plague spores on his drive to the first day of the show,
and bring a sixpack of Snapple full of plague to put in the fridge, with something like
"Property of Tango, Do Not Touch, Mine Mine Mine, not yours" writ on it to make sure they take some.
By the time all his snaple is stolen (like the show execs wont be gaoding folks to do it to cause strife),
He will be nice & contagious to get everyone & their cousin plagued up as a walking talking biohazard.

Why kill folks fast with a bomb, when you can have them plague up on camera day after day.
The suicide bomber mentality affords him great credibility for poisoning, normal folks are not suspicious of a beverage they see the guy drinking himself.

Terrorism is not a tactical weapon, it is a strategic weapon.
It is not about killing some folks, it is about making the rest of the folks afraid they will be killed.
Warfare is done with Str Dex Con, but Terrorism is best done with Int Ded & Cha

Yeah, that's a cool way of looking at it.

You are of course right that the whole bomb in the studio thing will damage a lot or all of the equipment our dissident friend is relying on to get his "message" across to us the viewing public.

So bombs are out...

Plague, wow, I like this. I like this a lot. The subtlety of the drink, playing on human nature. You're right everyone will be forced to take a swig... it's big red button syndrome - you have to push it.

But it doesn't feel right, it's doesn't seem showy enough, I mean they've gone to the trouble of smuggling someone onto a t.v programme it seems like they want something spectacular.

But then, maybe if they found away to force the t.v execs to continue broadcasting while the house was placed under quarantine, you know, big polythene sheets, biohazard suits for the doctors coming in and out. It would have to be something hard to diagnose in order that a doctor doesn't just come in and fix it, that means the pc's (who are quite possibly infected at this point) have something to do by tracking down the terrorist and extracting the name of the virus so that doctors can begin treatment before it's too late.

Sorry that was a bit stream of conscioussness.

What do you think?
