D20 Modern Expansion Update (no crunchy content posted at the moment)

I've had a couple people asking me about my Expansion project every so-often, so I thought I'd post something here detailing what's been (or not been) happening.

To be frank, there hasn't been a lot of work on the Expansion project in the past few months. The development team I tried to form up kinda fell away for their own reasons (mostly life stuff), and while I DID make most of the content that was originally posted in the Expansion thread, I quickly ran out of steam without anyone to bounce ideas off of.

That said, since the project is kidna stagnating ( ), I'm considering posting all of my Advanced Class revamps here again so that everyone can use them if they so desire. I probably still won't be posting the magic/psionics do-over's, though, as they've been shifted into a different, more inspired project... which reminds me.

Another reason I've kinda dropped the D20Modern Expansion is that I'm working on overhauling the D20 System itself, which will hopefully result in something that actually feels like an advancement of the D20 line as opposed to a different game entirely. Either way, it's going to be an interesting adventure... though likely a slow one as I've recently started going to college again. Heh...

Anyhow, I just thought anyone concerned about/interested in the Expansion project would like to know all that. I hope I haven't disappointed too many people in mostly discontinuing the D20Expansion. :/

Thanks, Yar. You were a real help with your feedback earlier, BTW. I've just kinda lost inspiration for the project at the moment. Debugging and such is kinda now my strongpoint. :/

Shunt it to the char op boards for them to break for you; that's a good test.

Char Op doesn't do much modern, though... that and, when I still wanted to publish this stuff, I didn't want to post/link it to CharOp. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I'd suggest posting it to a non-WotC board. If you're looking for people to "break" it (so that you can fill in the loopholes), post it to Brilliant Gameologists.

Posted it in their Homebrew forum once. I've never seen a thread sink so fast on that board before. lol! Maybe I'd have better luck on the d20 games section...

Oh right. For a minute there, I forgot about the unusually high duoche bag demographic on that site. Especially Josh.

Yeah, I said it.

Josh is the newest of the Gameologists, right? The one who's, for a lack of better term, forcably skeptical?

Anyhow, as much as I dislike the general attitude of teh board, trashtalking them doesn't really make us any better. I do like some of the people on there. BKdubs was VERY helpful when I was working on my D&D baseclass overhaul (an experiment to see if I could make EVERYONE as powerful, or a lot closer to full-caster classes.)

But anyway.

Maybe I should make my own wiki-thing for the modern expansion and link it here... or just finally PDF the darned thing.

I agree, actually. There are a lot of supportive, helpful, insightful people on there, but the jack-wads are louder and more obnoxious, which shouldn't be a surprise.

If you PDF it, you're protecting your copyright and we get to play with it and tell you what we think. I think it was you who had a point-based Talent Tree thing, right? I'd love to look at that and see if I can integrate it into Phoenix, frankly. I'm here purely out of selfish motivations.

Oh, I haven't forgotten your request about the talent trees. Don't worry.

As for the point-based thing, that's actually a character creation thing similar to the one in your own game, remember? Its purpose was to get rid of Level Adjustment as, well, LA is flawed. The Expanded Modern project was mostly about giving Advanced classes talent trees, though.

I'll start PDF-izing them soon. I just wish I could make 'em look pretty (curse my photoshop acting up. *shakes fist*)

Oh, I remember. My goal is to take your point-based system and translate the numbers into Character Points for Phoenix. I figure, the more non-superpower options I stuff into the game, the more someone can actually create Batman or Mr. Terrific, a non-powered hero who is, nevertheless, able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder (and even toe-to-toe) with Green Lantern.

College and my own endeavors have sidetracked me along with google docs not accepting Words 07 docs which from what I've read it will accept 03 docs thou in hindsight they do accept PDF's don't they...

Just do a cut/paste with Google Docs. It's way easier than dealing with actual import/export issues. Cut/paste and then reformat to taste. The two formats are so different anyway that that's the only way to come up with something that's actually readable.

Alright. I PDF'd it. It's not exactly pretty or exciting-looking, but I think it's understandible.

Any suggestions on where to host it?

Any broadband ISP should provide you with a little webspace. If not, check with your Uni, if you're a student. Past that... there are dozens of sites that will host small files, but dmaned if I know any of them by name/address.

Just want to throw it out there that the Josh to which you refer is not representative of all Joshes, particularly not those who have a weird y-looking thing hanging off the ends of their names. :P

Filefront's good for hosting PDF's.  Same with Rapidshare.

Sadly, I don't think I have access to the webspace granted by my grandpa's ISP, as the contract is in my grandpa's name... and I doubt he even knows he has access to it, or what it is. @_@

Maybe I should check at my school, though. It's a community college, but there's a small chance it'll give me something. lol

@ Cheomesh: Thanks for the sites. I'll check those out.

@ Joshy: No, you're evil. All Joshes are evil, and they make rash assumptions about people just by their names. It's really annoying. If you want to stop being a total jerk, change your name to something that isn't Josh, Joshy, Joshster, or any veriation of Josh... J/K. :P

EDIT: uploaded it onto FileFront. That was really easy... Anyhow. It's linked in the first post. Any idea how to edit the title of my thread, or should I just post a new, accurately titled one?

Thanks for the idea, Yar. I already picked a host, but if for some reason it stops working I'll check that site out.

Anyhow, should I post the link in a new thread, as the link in this thread isn't getting much attention... or has everyone who wants to look at the file already downloaded it?
