| #1Wolfen_FenrisonNov 21, 2007 9:26:29 | I'm working on making a d20 Modern/Monte Cook's World of Darkness gestalt. I'm using a variant of unearthed arcana gestalt rules for characters, you pick one character type (WoD), one race, one occupation, and one starting class. you start at one hit die but use the bigger from class or type, use the bigger skill points, and use the classes BAB and saves. the character types in essence become "race/class templates". to make the Demon work as such i made so they inhabit living bodies (like vamps and weres), they still are natural shape changers but they can only assume their "natural" forms a limited amount of time (instead of the default opposite). also I'm using urban arcana, dark*matter, and call of cthulhu stuff in my setting so alot of the flavor will be changed (inconnu=great old ones, demons are from hell, werewolves are agents of the nature/spirit world, awakened have some divine influence). i know it may seem overpowered but i have prepared for that and all my players and me are so stoked for this game. we wound up scrapping our supper hero campaign for we could do this. |
| #2Cyber-DaveNov 21, 2007 11:53:02 | Balancing things out will be headache... It is certainly an interesting concept though... |
| #3Wolfen_FenrisonNov 21, 2007 14:58:39 | for challenge ratings and encounter levels the is their level +1, meaning they get less expirence or they face bigger challenges. |
| #4ranger_regNov 21, 2007 20:10:26 | Isn't there a WoD book written by Monte Cook (known 3.0e designer as well as creator of Arcana Unearthed and Iron Heroes)? Isn't that supposed to be d20 or d20-based? |
| #5Wolfen_FenrisonNov 21, 2007 20:39:31 | I'm trying to mesh that book with the d20 Modern series |
| #6Wolfen_FenrisonNov 22, 2007 22:48:23 | how should i modify the damage resistance form vampires and demons to wokr with d20 modern, i'm thinking making them immune to massive damage |
| #7Cyber-DaveNov 22, 2007 23:06:21 | Immune to critical hits, and on a failed massive damage save, instead of dropping to -1 hp, the vampire/demon would be stunned for 1 round. |
| #8jacemachineDec 04, 2007 10:44:39 | Gentlemen, I now join you in owning my very own copy of Monte Cook's WOD, and I must say... 384 pages CHOCK full of goodness (and vile evil)-- I'm digging it. I even scored mine for %25 cover price because the folks a TBS Comics in FWB, FL are the Best. To me anyway. Any notes that you have compiled and would like to drop on me, lemme know and I'll PM you my email addy. |
| #9Cyber-DaveDec 04, 2007 18:08:16 | Jace, if you PM me your e-mail addy I will send you a list of my house rules. After actually playing the game I found a few areas where it was broken, and found ways to fix said areas. I would be happy to send you my notes. |
| #10Wolfen_FenrisonDec 05, 2007 16:57:30 | alright damage resistance will not equal crit immunity but it does mean on a failed MDT save that you stunned for 1 round, for vamps and demons they do not lose hit points when incapacitated of dying. if a robots are allowed by GM they can only take awakened, mage, and demon types |
| #11Wolfen_FenrisonDec 24, 2007 23:05:38 | Grande mucho thanks to cyber-dave for the house rules. you rock bro! my current problem is I want to the fluff from the vampires (oWoD/nWoD), werewolves (oWoD/nWoD), mages (nWoD), Awakened (Hunter oWoD), Demons (oWoD), from previous white-wolf sources. So if anyone knows of decent WoD wiki or a site with alot of the setting fluff that would be great. Now I'm stuck on how to handle embracing, as of right now its left up to GM fiat as to if any creature is embraced. Also how hard would be to make d20 conversions of WoD Mummies and Wraiths? |
| #12Cyber-DaveDec 27, 2007 13:16:18 | http://wiki.white-wolf.com/worldofdarkness/index.php/Main_Page Thats the WoD Wiki. I'm not so sure about a conversion though... that would require a lot of work. I'm not saying it can't be done, god knows I have done more work than that to include something I wanted in one of my games in the past, but its not going to be an easy job. There has been some talk on the WoD boars about using Monte Cook's Ghostwalk classes as "wraith" style classes in McWoD though... |
| #13Wolfen_FenrisonDec 27, 2007 23:11:52 | Ghostwalk, brilliant! As of right now the books I'm using for the setting is as follows: d20 Modern Menace Manual Urban Arcana d20 Weapons Locker Critical Locations d20 Dark*Matter Monster Manual 3.5 (for recommended monsters in future and apocalypse) d20 Future d20 Future Tech d20 Apocalypse d20 Cyberscape Modern Player's Companion Future Player's Companion d20 Call of Cthulhu Monte Cook's World of Darkness |
| #14angrymartianDec 27, 2007 23:46:16 | Ghostwalk, brilliant! Hah, I am in the middle of gearing up a campaign using much the same books as you list above. Along with the standard MCWoD races, I have written in that the intrusion facilitated an inrush of other extra-planar and extra-dimensional creatures and beings (such as the d20 future races, and monsters from the 3.5 Monster Manual). I haven't really had too many issues meshing the WotC material with the White Wolf publication (though I confess to having also taken onboard some of Cyber-Dave's house rules )Also, rather than one there are fourteen intrusion points in my campaign (one or two on every continent), all of which hit earth in a simultaneous event, and i have doubled the area of effect of the various intrusion zones. In effect, this means that a largely undiluted nightmare wave washed over virtually the whole planet, thus the world is in much worse shape than that detailed in MCWoD. Anyway I'll have to keep an eye on your campaign to see how it evolves, it sounds like we have similar plans. cheers:P |
| #15Wolfen_FenrisonDec 28, 2007 0:58:54 | so far the characters for our campaign are: Orc Vampire (Meket), Strong (Military) 3 / Soldier 1 (Planing for Spec Op) Human Werewolf (Rahu), Strong (Impoverished) 3/ Shadow Slayer 1 (Planning for Holy Knight) Elf Mage (Thurgist), Smart (Investigative) 3/ Criminologist 1 (Planning for Mastermind) Krynn Minotaur Werewolf (Ithaeur), Dedicated (Novitiate) 3/ Acolyte 1 (Planing for Ecclesiarch) They are investigating a minor intrusion point that devastated Flint, Mi. and the surrounding area. The agency works something like the IDA and PSI. I'm planing on the BBEG to be Hastur the unspeakable, being served by his beholder-kin minions as well as the beholder ran organization Eyes of the Beholder. |
| #16Wolfen_FenrisonMar 21, 2008 16:51:32 | My campaign starts a Lv 4 so as to allow up to LA +3 Races (the maximum LA in urban arcana) and I am drawing a list from all the d20 modern books as well as MM 1, MM 2, MM 3, MM 4, MM 5, and fiend folio. My main villain is gonna be the illithid empire (the look and tactics are gonna resemble a mix of the chimera from resistance: fall of man, and the necromongers from chronicles of riddick) they are the alien BBEGs that the fraal are so afraid of, I'm combining various elements from lords of madness, MM 5, and a touch of lovecraft (the brain stealer dragon from dragon #337 at great wyrm stage just screams cthulhu), their technology is biologically based (so they use symbionts, and their weapons/armor/spacecraft all have the bio-tech gadget applied from d20 future and future tech), I don't how I want to use the gith races (slaves or already rebels) if at all. The Gardhyi (from menace manual) are the advaned scouts of the mind flayers. The theme is WoD/UA meet War of the Worlds/Mars Attacks |
| #17Wolfen_FenrisonApr 14, 2008 13:39:44 | After going over the numbers I decided against allowing LA 1+ races as that would be too overwhelming a list of options (especially if the player is a n00b). As I'm more familiar with OWoD how would Wraths/Orpheus, Mummies, Changlings, Promethean, Kuei-jin be converted into race/class templates? I have the D&D Ghostwalk book but I'm still having a hard time as I'm not so familiar with wrath and even less with Orpheus. If I haven't mentioned it before the Inconnu from McWod and the Great Old Ones from CoC are one and the same. thats all I got for now. |
