| #1AnimeSniperSep 16, 2008 15:38:48 | While working on my campaign ideas and some other D20 WIP Materia I had a thought! My thoughts were how when tallying damage for NPC starships/mecha/vehicles of the PL +6 could be done if you took the number of Dice, Roll, then multiply by a number (Need 2 figure out a scale) and then add a Bonus if the either attack makes pass the extra HP... normal 4,500 HP with 350 Armors hardness? In lamens terms; Roll 6D10 * 50 + 125= 425-3,125 damge to the NPC ship? I would like comments on this thought? |

Rolling fewer dice increases the chance of low/high scores, while rolling more dice increases the likelyhood of an average result. 2d10x5 is a lot quicker to work out than 10d10, too. d20 Future doesn't apper too keen on applying damage multipliers to weapons damage. Nor do they add modifiers to damage outside of melee. I guess this has to do with the fact that d20 future vehicles rely solely on their hardness values to shake off minor and glancing hits. Adding static bonuses to the damage roll kinda skews this, but then again some star ships have literally thousands of hp. A battleship can survive about 100 hits from his own nuclear missiles... So if that's the problem you want to address, then sure - go ahead. -DF |

Exactly, I don't want to have to roll a lot of dice for damage d20 Future doesn't apper too keen on applying damage multipliers to weapons damage. Nor do they add modifiers to damage outside of melee. I was thinking along the path of munitions load in the weapon, i.e. a Linear Rail Howizter firing a Discarding Sabot round at the ship allows for the +125? I guess this has to do with the fact that d20 future vehicles rely solely on their hardness values to shake off minor and glancing hits. So if that's the problem you want to address, then sure - go ahead. Good to know... considering a captured vehicle, a tank I'm working on using Nix4's outline, that may make it appearence has like 27,000 HP max and 900 Hardness when I used a previous version! Also, you wouldn't have or happen to know anyone with construction rules/guidelines for building Original vehicle concepts? |
| #4DwarfFighterSep 16, 2008 16:51:31 | A tank with 27 000 hp and 900 hardness? Are you joking? If you are working on a house rule adaptation of someone's house rules then I am afraid I can't really help you. -DF |
| #5AnimeSniperSep 16, 2008 17:06:05 | A tank with 27 000 hp and 900 hardness? Are you joking? Well the tank, from my notes, was discovered by a either group of archeoligists or was an Empire Prototype using 10 layers of prototype armor at a secret planetary location then captured by a group of seperatists... the PC'swould either respond to a distress call or be hired by Empirical Soldiers to go in and paint the target? Also, now looking closer at my notes... the prototype armor is an attempt to mimic the armor of an alien race that disappeaered eons ago! |
| #6DwarfFighterSep 16, 2008 17:41:20 | I'm not sure you should stack the values for the various types of hardness involved. Bear in mind that the d20 rules rate steel as hardness 10, and state-of-the-art tank armour as hardness 20. Anything better than that is just imaginary stuff that goes all the way up to 50 for armour so advanced it's nearly sentient! And that at the level of technology where people power their cell phones with microscopic black holes instead of chemical batteries. I suggest you first scale your armour down somewhat, and the same thing with the hps. Consider that a modern Abrams tank is rated as having hardness 20 and less than 70 hp. -DF |
| #7AnimeSniperSep 16, 2008 17:49:05 | I'm not sure you should stack the values for the various types of hardness involved. Point taken... but the mind is a fical thing especially when you combine finishing a really great Sci-fi novel in a day and then hit the forums of several sites which result in a tank that is roughly based on the novel... looking back at Nix4's Construction rules he has the size I want at 150 Hp I think and can't remember hardness! Would, if the tank was an alien artifact say PL9-10 that a 35-40 hardness and max 200 HP would be too much? The link to Nix4's MilCon Rules http://sites.google.com/site/d20futurecampaign/new-d20-rules/mlitary-vehicle-constructionthat I've tossed ideas at regarding Military Vehicles Construction! Mind you he has listed existed vehicles from SRD's but its a start to being able to build you vehicles from scratch... i.e. Want a VTOL Troop Jet well heres how to do it! |
| #8DwarfFighterSep 17, 2008 4:15:26 | That seems reasonable. -DF |
| #9AnimeSniperSep 17, 2008 18:35:42 | Been gathering my Tank Design notes and I was wondering if the tank has a Sensor Suite installed then is it reasonable to assume that a successful detection of an attack, say Sensor 15 + D20 roll 18, locates the missile and the auto-cannons, a 35mm Trinity gatling tracks the missile. The GM then rolls a D20 + Sensor + Weapon Dex to make the missiles AC + Evasion Dex... GM makes the combined AC and then rolls 4D10 + 1/2 Sensor to destroy the missile, Counter Evasion Dex + D20 roll... of course the missile HP would be so much so it could be destroyed or after several turns destroyed or hits the tank? What are you thoughts on this DF dono? |
| #10DwarfFighterSep 18, 2008 5:02:39 | I have no idea, really. -DF |
| #11AnimeSniperSep 18, 2008 14:22:33 | In my notes I have the Sensor suite listed as combined Spot/Listen and the Hardware/software is upgradeable... better equipment better detection modifier? The upgrades are in increments of +5! Sort of like the munitions for weaponry; a discarding sabot is different damage the a normal HEAT round, different munitions different damage! |
| #12AnimeSniperSep 22, 2008 13:39:47 | Here is a table I created, a damage multiplier for PL+8 created weaponry! Enjoy |
| #13AnimeSniperSep 22, 2008 13:41:16 | Dang spoony technology! How do I create the drop down boxes? |
