The amusing part for the GM could be providing one of the players with a deathnote and becoming a kira. Or alternatively just implanting the paranoia that one of them is a kira. If all are supporters of kira's justice, then make them think one of them is a spy of the authorities. It'd deffinitely avoid hack n' slash, flipping out and killing people is highly suspicious and draws alot of attention. But doing too little can draw suspicion and attention too. |

Players that like roleplaying, enough so that they shouldn't expect a fight every game and most of the time, probably not working with one another. A difficult game to do. |

Since Most Roleplaying games are a team game, Death note was about one other guy killing others. So if one PC out of the 3 had this crazy power and they didn't know who did, the teamwork would be dead, as everyone would think they're out to get each other. Perhaps as some mini campaign or one time session it might work I suppose. Otherwise if you intend to do it, good luck to ye, and hope it works out for you then. |

I hope everyone ends up with two to three other friends to make a total of 3 players, going over that is even better. |
| #6layla_minogueMar 23, 2008 19:07:31 | Death Note Spoilers Below: You could include the possibility of having multiple Death Notes in play, similar to the show; maybe allowing enough notes for each player or some portion thereof. Having more notes could add a lot of tension and drama. Of course, all of the players would need to have some good role playing skills, and keep the drama strictly at the table. I'd also enforce the Death Note rules in real-time, i.e. that the players can elaborate on the cause and time of death, as long as the conditions are written down in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Sorry for digging this thread up, but I've been catching up with the series, and after 16 episodes it's getting really good! ![]() |
| #7vagabonvoidMar 27, 2008 17:23:47 | I did a deathnote game about a year ago. My group (x3) played it in real time. We ended up using cell phones during the day to keep up. The cast for the group was... Jon, private investigator who investigated a killing spree in LA (deathnote related). He has come to Greg's college town because of similar cases. Greg, college student who has come across a deathnote and is slowly becoming corrupted. He has killed a college professor (car accident) who was threatening his scholarship. Joe, a athletic student (shamed sports star) who transfered to Greg's college and becomes Greg's suite-mate. Joe's GF dies from a car accident caused by Greg. He saw Greg nearby that night and suspects he has something to do with the death. As the GM, I played as the police investigating the entire game. During the course of the game, Greg becomes very corrupted and starts killing people for personal gain... He even kills his overbearing father after taking out life insurance on him. Joe begins investigating Greg and as he was searching through Greg's closet, he touched the deathnote. He now can see what Greg really is. He decides to keep it to himself and wait until the time is right. Jon Investigates the death of the teacher (hired by the guy's grieving wife), he comes upon Greg and Joe. Joe tips him off late in the game of what he knows but Greg figures out he is being watched. He couldn't find out Jon's real name to kill him, so he set it up for him to go down for the murder of several people in a subway terminal and Jon being caught on camera surviving (the DA uses circumstantial evidence is what sends him to prison). Jon dies from a heart attack in prison after his name is released. The game culminates when Greg sets up a date for Greg (he's to meet a girl on top of the 6 story dormitory later that night). Joe waits for Greg on the roof until he and the girl (Jon the cop's new character) arrive for the date. Joe confronts Greg on the college rooftop. Initiative is rolled, Joe wins, charges and bull rushes Greg. Greg uses a move action to pull the DN and begins to write the death of Greg. Joe (knowing his fate) forces himself and Greg off the roof. They both die... The Girl, picks up the DN, inheriting it's powers. |
