Just digging up old houserule ideas and found this. It's for my mystic western campaign, but that's on hiatus right now so I thought I'd share.

edit:
To say a bit more, this is cool stuff, i'll have to adapt this somewhat, as my games don't usually involve FX, but it is an interesting idea.

It shouldn't be too hard to modify the roles of the cards that counter/affect FX. If you didn't catch on, the general theme of each suit goes like this:
Spades = +damage, hurt 'em
Hearts = Heal yourself, and sometimes others
Clubs = +attack/-Defense, hit 'em
Diamonds = +defense, dodge 'em

The campaign this went with originally took place in an altered world where Earth is much longer than it should be, and is only a sphere due to some trick using extra-dimensional space. Basically, there was a whole lot more west to be won. :P
There were also the gunslinger equivalents to the Nine Swords. I still need to finish those. >_>
