I've thought up some "occasions that elicit dread": - You've just finished an expensive meal at a restaurant, when you realize you forgot your wallet. The person you're with doesn't have any money, you don't know anybody else there, and you can't phone somebody to either bring it or loan you money. - You look at your final exam, and realize that the really big question that's worth half of the marks is the stuff you didn't bother to study, because you wanted to do something else. - You talk to some random person about a few things you do that are "semi-illegal", like pirated software, tax fraud, speeding, etc; most people don't care about it, but it's still against the law. As you walk away, you notice that they're a police officer. - Taxes. 'Nuff said. Anyone have any more? |

Coming back from vacation in some far off place and noticing your wallet is missing (that is almost bordering on horror) You start driving your car and notice that conditions are too poor to drive (too tired/drunk, precipitation, ice, etc.) but you have no choice but to do so or are nowhere near any place familiar. Coming to school and realizing you forgot to bring any sort of writing tool (probably more dreadful to me than most people) Coming to school and realizing that you forgot about the big project that is due that day |

(Drug user, stalker, gay and in love with you...) --A room full of frightened people looking at you for guidence in a crisis. --The spiteful, out-of-place laugh of a coworker a week before suddenly makes sense as your boss lets you go. --An interview for a new job asks a number of questions that are both bizzarre and oddly personal. All of these have happened to me personally at some point in my life. Very dreadful. :\ |

| #6melpomeneApr 17, 2008 19:48:41 | Surely you didn't answer them? Some questions are unethical and even illegal for interviewers to ask. The questions fell into two categories. First. there were questions that led me to believe (corectly) that the person I was replacing had to be let go due to personal problems that came from a bad home environment and a substance problem. The second were highly specific to the job I was applying for and are out-of-place in normal job interviews with a corperate manager. The job was for work at a gaming store, and a stuffy-shirted, tie-wearing corperate drone was asking my questions about vampire home cities. For a more "dreadful" example, though, one could well use "Being John Malkovich." "Put these characters into alphebetical order." "Um... the one on the left is a 'Q', and the symbol on the right isn't a letter." |
| #7raniaApr 18, 2008 11:43:10 | Ya know, pretty much all of these things are creepier than the "creepy events" thread. Probably because this stuff is much more likely to happen to me; I HAVE forgotten my wallet, forgotten about a bit project. |
| #8bosh_vantApr 19, 2008 0:53:49 | I can't say that I have ever forgotten a large project. Knowingly procrastinated, yes Until the night before, yes. But forgotten, never. |
| #9lonewolf_the_hunterMay 03, 2008 2:48:48 | Walking along a canal at night and hearing something splash in the the water up ahead, expecially if you didn't a flashlight and you and your friends had just been pondering which of you would live and which would die in horror movie. My friends and I talk about some weird things, and for the record, the one unanimouslhy agreed on to be the first to die, went chargeing ahead to investigate, scaring what ever it was off. |
