| #1psininjaNov 12, 2008 20:19:35 | I'm trying to put together a bunch of ways to increase the effective range for firearm combat. Here's what I've got so far. If anybody can think of anything else, please let me know. 1. Far shot feat: +50% range increment for projectile weapons, +100% for thrown weapons. 2. Improved far shot: class ability for Sniper prestige class. +100% for projectile weapons. Replaces Far shot feat. Doesn't stack. 3. Extended range gadgets: Future Tech. Increases range for ranged weapons 100%. Presumably, this could be applied to both gun and bullets for a total boost of 200%. |
| #2AnimeSniperNov 13, 2008 13:22:06 | Sounds feasible... although I like the idea of my Digital-Optical Scope for weapons that I have been tinkering with... basically utilizing Nano-electronics so far on my notes... I've also been tinkering with the SOP satellites that would allow crew-based and vehicle based weapon emplacement to tartget/track an enemy from a distance i.c. Orbit... the String Of Pearls Satellites are deployed by a military cruiser into a geosynch orbit of a planet {PL7-8}! |
| #3psininjaNov 13, 2008 17:52:02 | Left one out 4. Scopes: While originally any scope gives a flat increase of 50%, it's been hinted that higher power scopes would give a boost of 100% or even 150%. I'd really like to see a 5 level prestige class that's main function is to buff up the range increment of firearms. I was messing around with something called "Longshot". It's class abilities would go something like 1st: massive shot 2nd: extended range (+100%) 3rd: swift scope 4th: extended range (+100%) 5th: third eye Massive shot: The massive damage save for any attacks made with firearms increases by 2 per Longshot level taken. Extended range: Increases the range increment of any firearm by the listed amounted. These bonuses stack with any other buff to range. Swift Scope: Sighting a target with a scope is now a swift action (instead of a move action). Third eye: Sighting a target with a scope is now a free action. Or how about some FX stuff that could make sniping easier? |
| #4AnimeSniperNov 13, 2008 19:26:10 | Cybernetics ala GITS 2nd Gig... the Sect 9 guy who had cybernetic eye that fed him the scope data of his rifle! |
| #5psininjaNov 14, 2008 10:58:15 | On a side note, would somebody with enhanced vision be able to shoot farther? I'm specifically thinking about the Phoenix system Could this be an enhancement for the Super Senses power? |
| #6Wolfen_FenrisonNov 14, 2008 13:38:51 | There is the Deadeye Frank from the GeneTech mini campaign from d20 Modern. |
| #7AnimeSniperNov 15, 2008 4:14:11 | Left one out If I can see what you have for this 'Longshot' then maybe I can help or at least toss Ideas at you? |
| #8AnimeSniperNov 15, 2008 11:49:32 | I have begin the task of creating a Sniper PrC/Advanced, 10 Lvls of my own utilizing a few of your ideas; 'massive shot' becomes '1 shot 1 kill', 'extended range' becomes 'Extended Sight Range', 'swift scope' becomes 'Effortless Track', 'third eye' becomes 'Sixth Sense'! Also Check Dandwiki cause they have a Marksman class... I think its called that |
| #9losigodNov 21, 2008 22:38:50 | i made up stats for some scopes in my merc. game reddot- + 20ft + 1 attack elec. scope + 60ft + 5 attack 17 crit. ![]() |
| #10tema69Nov 22, 2008 5:24:53 | As for range in our campaigns, I usually crank the RIs up to a realistic amount (as in, rifles having around 150), and scopes give a bonus to hit equal to their magnification, but this bonus can only be used to overcome RI penalties. So no extra range for using scopes, but less penalty from shooting far. Reddots were statted to +1 to hit and +1 to init. I don't really see how Reddots can give a bonus to range though? |
| #11psininjaNov 22, 2008 11:28:25 | Boosting the range increments for rifles seems a solid way to go. I don't know if anyone has read the Big Bang series of pdfs, but the rifle caliber weapons stated in them seem to have range increments about double what the core stuff puts them at. |

By reddots are you refering to Laser sights/scopes because I have been toying with the idea for my campaign that a Laser targeter on a weapon will give a bonus to the weapon it is on; red +1, green +3 to attack rolls |
| #13tema69Nov 22, 2008 12:38:15 | Reddot = http://www.armory.sk/shop/images/kolimatory.jpg Laser Pointer = http://www.apexglobal.eu/UserFiles/images/Beamshot/8800_gun_1_.jpg |
| #14AnimeSniperNov 22, 2008 12:53:59 | :embarrass Forgot about the scopes with the Laset targeter on the side... also I have been toying with the idea of the rail system on modern weapons to allow for shotguns/grenade launcher/etcetera in my campaign... so what do everyone think about these ideas? |
| #15AnimeSniperNov 26, 2008 23:24:05 | Okay, with Tema69 dono's post of his WW II materia on another post I begin deriving Scopes/Laser Sights/Etcetera for use with the Picatinny Rail used on most modern weapons which I am allowing in my campaigns... Here is what I need is a list of known max maginification scopes in real life and Homebrew stuff that I could get ideas from... or a good reference site! |
| #16tema69Nov 27, 2008 3:20:26 | Most military issued scopes (those not issued to snipers, but to infantrymen - like the Elcan scope on the Canadian C7 and C8, or the G36 dual optic, etc...) range from 1.5x to 4x. Many military optics go 10x or more... |
| #17AnimeSniperNov 27, 2008 14:18:19 | Any sites that have a list like wikipedia that I could consult for details and then I can compile them into a list with DC and benefits for each |
| #18tema69Nov 27, 2008 14:37:21 | Unfortunately not. Google is yours, buddy. |
| #19AnimeSniperNov 27, 2008 14:49:57 | Use Google maybe retailers/manufacturers... that or I borrow my bro's Military Surplus catalogs and look through them |
