| #1Cyber-DaveOct 29, 2008 21:28:19 | It has seriously revitalized my interest in a d20 Apocalypse game... though if I ran it it would be as a Star Wars Saga game that uses the d20 Apocalypse barter/equipment rules... and maybe some modified version of the d20 Apocalypse scavenging rules. |
| #2j0ltOct 30, 2008 4:49:48 | Holy crap, it's Cyber-Dave!!! :OMG! From the previews I read, it seemed like they were focusing more on the sillier aspects of the series, but that may just be what the writer saw... |
| #3atomic_dogOct 30, 2008 14:40:25 | It's not just Oblivion with guns though is it? I'm really excited for getting Fallout 3 coz I loved 1 & 2, but I'm scared I won't like it. I'm having fun with Farcry 2 presently :D |
| #4Cyber-DaveOct 30, 2008 21:19:07 | No, it is not Oblivion with guns. But, its not not Oblivion with guns either. If you liked Oblivion AND You liked the Fallout games (like me), this game will be the most amazing thing you ever laid eyes on (or hands on). If you really hated Oblivion, you might dislike the game... It pretty much goes like this: the character creation system is the old Fallout character creation system. You have your S.P.E.C.I.A.L attributes, you have your old Fallout skills, and with every level you get a trait. Likewise, the weapons are very Fallout as well, as is the setting. However, the gameplay (as in graphics, world interaction, and combat) plays very much like Oblivion. I mean that the controls are very similar to Oblivion controls, and while the interface is very Fallout skinned, it has all the Oblivion elements... a compass that points out which direction you should run for a quest, where stuff is around you, enemies, that sort of thing. There is also a health bar, an ammo bar, and a space for an enemies health bar to appear. There are some new features that hearken back to Fallout gameplay though... there is a V.A.T.S. targeting system, and action points. You spend action points to use V.A.T.S., and when you do, the gameplay is not at all like Oblivion game play. Its more like the traditional Fallout gameplay. You target a body part, you have a % chance to hit the body part, and the game makes the shot for you automatically. You do not FPS style aim and shoot. In my opinion, the game manages to capture the best elements of Elder Scrolls and Fallout and make an amazing and unique game that is better than either. As for it focusing on the silly elements... I haven't finished the storyline yet, but I have not found anything more or less silly then the original Fallout games. So far it seems about equal in this regard. Like I said, the story and setting feel pretty much exactly like the old Fallout games... but with much, much, much better graphics. |
| #5j0ltOct 31, 2008 1:38:31 | Great, so now I gotta go buy it! I loved Morrowind and Fallout 2. Have yet to play Oblivion. |
| #6atomic_dogOct 31, 2008 6:31:54 | Wooo! Thank you for debunking all my fears! I've been and read a review and it pretty much said what you did. Dammit, you've made me want it more now! |
| #7Master_VegaOct 31, 2008 15:54:37 | That's really good to hear, Dave. Does this mean we can look forward to seeing more of your house-rules, or will most of your stuff be applicable only to Saga? Hey... is it just me, or did we just have an D20Modern Board Veterans meeting? All we need is Backstabbist and a few others and the gang will all be here... :P |
| #8Cyber-DaveOct 31, 2008 18:11:07 | Hehehe. Yea, I miss the community we had on these boards quite a bit. I found it far more appealing then the community of any of the other WotC forums I frequent. I never really stopped creating house rules. If you go into my signature, there is something labeled "The Land of Nod: A Sci-Fi Campaign Setting Using Modified Star Wars Saga rules... All the house rules I ever wrote were originally written to create the Land of Nod. When Star Wars Saga came out, I just found a great system with which to build the land of Nod that did not require nearly so many house rules. It still required some, but nothing near the same amount. That allowed me to start working on what I REALLY wanted to work on, fluff. These days, when I write house rules, they are usually to either incorporated elements of d20 Modern into Star Wars Saga (I have a couple advanced classes that I turned into Saga prestige classes, some work on incorporating d20 Cyberscape cybernetics into Saga, and now I got to thinking about incorporating d20 Apocalypse into Saga), or to fix some aspect of McWoD that I feel needs to work more like Saga or 4e. To be honest, that is probably the only thing anyone will ever see from me (specifically in relation to d20 Modern realted rules) anymore. I find the d20 Modern system a little dated, and I think Saga does what d20 Modern tried to do a lot better. Basically, there are three types of games I like to play. Modern Horror, Sci-fi (and all its sub types), and heroic fantasy. I think Monte Cooks WoD does Modern Horror better then d20 Modern, Saga does sci-fi better then d20 Modern, and 4e does heroic fantasy better then Modern. It does not really leave me a reason to play Modern anymore. ![]() But, most of the Modern splat books are still very easy to incorporate into Saga or McWoD, so I am still happy. ![]() |
| #9trappedsliderNov 01, 2008 14:03:08 | Hey... is it just me, or did we just have an D20Modern Board Veterans meeting? We're a gang now? lets go knock over a 7-11....>.> |
| #10Cyber-DaveNov 01, 2008 14:23:27 | Will the 7/11 be populated by PC's or NPCS? And, do we know what their allegiances are? |
| #11trappedsliderNov 01, 2008 15:32:44 | Will the 7/11 be populated by PC's or NPCS? And, do we know what their allegiances are? Its been taken over as a front for the six fingered hand.... EDIT: I must be losing my gming skills because this sounds like the worst adventure hook ever....o |
| #12nclancemanNov 01, 2008 18:53:47 | Hey, I heard all the cool kids were joining a gang! Count me in! |
| #13Cyber-DaveNov 01, 2008 22:34:26 | Ok... we need some sort of signature that we can all use. Something like the 4e Avengers, but all for us! How does Modern Veterans sound? |
| #14trappedsliderNov 01, 2008 23:11:17 | Ok... we need some sort of signature that we can all use. Something like the 4e Avengers, but all for us! win a contest and you could get that as a ct....lol:P |
| #15Master_VegaNov 02, 2008 9:41:52 | Ok... we need some sort of signature that we can all use. Something like the 4e Avengers, but all for us! I like it. 'Tis very simple, yet actually sounds neat. Sorry to derail your thread, Dave. That was not my intention. >_> |
| #16tema69Nov 02, 2008 9:49:20 | Hey guys, Long time no see for most of you. From what I've seen of Fallout 3, it looks like a great game, and a d20 game based on it could actually turn out pretty well, I think. Note that I haven't played it, only seen gameplay trailers and such. I loved the build-your-own-weird-weapon part as well as the VATS. |
| #17valeshdemonNov 07, 2008 17:19:54 | I'm actually starting up a Fallout D20 Apoc of my own. I've gotten my mitts on the Fallout Bible, and am using it for base resources. Also, for laughs, I made my very own G.O.A.T. for the players to take, to determine their starting occupation. It's pretty neet, if you guys want a copy of it, lemme know. ![]() |
| #18nclancemanNov 07, 2008 22:55:35 | Hey! Look what I found when I was looking for something else! Hopefully someone can put this to use. |
| #19valeshdemonNov 08, 2008 0:42:05 | Awesome, pure sweetness! Now all that remains is a little bit of a bestiary for some iconic fallout critters. |
| #20j0ltNov 13, 2008 22:51:28 | Too busy for Fallout, Half-Life 2 rocks even more! :p |

| #29ranger_regNov 25, 2008 11:58:02 | Fallout 3.... game of the year.. .Hands down in my opinion. Still need more patching though. I'm tired of having to resurrect Walter whenever I got scrap metal for sale. |
| #30ranger_regNov 25, 2008 12:01:15 | www.4shared.com Well, you don't need to be a member to download it. HOWEVER, you're forcing me to have to buy a utility program to open up and view RAR file. ![]() Honestly, couldn't you use Windows File Compression or WinZIP? Or better yet, since I have broadband, give us the file uncompressed? ![]() |
