Hey all, as the title suggests this is a thread where you can post your favorite Firearm/Firearm Combo. Any firearm from the Core Rulebook, Urban Arcana, and Weapons Locker is fair game, except the 5-7. I do not want this to turn into a rules/balance debate, so please refrain. This thread is made to be fun and informative.

Please explain why you are so fond of your particular firearm selection. What advantages does it convey that others lack? What particular niche would it fill?

Also, please, no magic, and keep it to d20 modern.

An example:

AAT-21 Heavy (7.62 mm Machine Gun), (Weapons Locker, 160)

This General-Purpose Machine Gun deals 2d12 damage. Unlike most machine guns, however, it is large sized. This means that it can be fired normally from the hip without having to spend a move action to set up a bipod. Also, it does not require exotic firearms proficiency, as it is not a heavy machine gun. One must keep in mind that this uses linked ammunition, and that any link of 50 rounds or over requires two people to operate. This is easily sidestepped, though. Feed it with links of 40, and when you are down to 5 rounds, attach another link. Combining two links is normally a move action, but can be done as a free action with the Quick Reload feat. This weapon also benefits most from the Burst Fire feat and high-explosive ammunition. Remember that, though you may not be able to buy entire links of explosive ammunition, a link can be constructed by hand using boxed ammo in 10 minutes. Just take an hour out of your day and you'll be set for a while. 5d12 damage anyone?

This particular choice of weapon allows a player to deal large amounts of damage without sacrificing mobility. It is a superior weapons solution to those not worried about keeping a low profile.

Alright, thats mine, anyone else care to share?

Wait, a 7.62 doing 2d12? That's gotta be a misprint. 7.62 should only do 2d10 not 2d12.

i'm a big fan of the HK G3 with a good quality 6x scope. sure its a bit big but its accuracy, range and stopping power more then make up for that.

take that combined with an HK MP7 as a back up/cqb weapon an you've got a very dangerous and flexible package offering range mobility and even stealth.

to sumerise 7.62 2d10 sniper rifle that becomes an assault rifle at the flick of a switch with a 4.6mm 2d6 machine pistol with some serious armour penetration

Most played character has a 1911 & 1 spare mag
Smart guys need a gun too, so I went oldschool... the classics never go out of style.

Western guy has a Winchester '73 (36") in 44-40 & Peacemaker in 44-40
Why carry 2 kinds of ammo, just shoot both guns from one bandolier & box of spares. Plenty enough power and range from the extra long rifle... not a buffalo gun by any means, but does a fine job of making a pistolero know just how far out of pistol range this rifle shoots. We use 2d8 for both guns, the FanRevolver DoubleTap rule, and custom houserules for quickdraw showdowns.

My munchkin-twink has a TWF brace of 45-70 4"derringers
cause even I sometimes just wanna go silly abusing rules with tiny 2d10 guns. Lots of running around & mario bro action

Wait, a 7.62 doing 2d12? That's gotta be a misprint. 7.62 should only do 2d10 not 2d12.

There are two versions of this machine gun, one that does 2d10, and one that does 2d12. Both are sized large. Doesn't look like a misprint to me.

Could you cite a page number for this gun?

On a side note, there have been a few people who just post a picture of a gun and say that it looks cool. Please, if you are going to post your favorite d20 modern firearms combination, at least give a short commentary, perhaps with some stats? Thanks.

I like the M-14 (or the newer M-21). It has sentimental value in that it was used by one of the Delta snipers in Mogadishu (Shugart or Gordan, I can't remember which). I just love the way it looks. Take double-tap and I'm good to go.

IMAGE(http://homepage3.nifty.com/sweeper/gun/auto_r/fg42.jpg)

These are the two main mass-production variants of the FG-42 paratroop rifle. The top is the earlier 'E' version, used in Otto Skorzeny's raid to free Mussolini, and found most frequently in Italy (though there were only about 2,000 total units produced).

The bottom is the 'G' variant, a redesign by Rheinmetall to reduce manufacturing time and cost, and to increase reliability and performance. The receiver was changed from a high-quality machined steel forging to a mid-grade carbon steel stamping, the bipod was altered to fold at the front instead of the rear, the stamped metal stock was replaced with wood, a different scope and mount were used, an improved muzzle brake was developed, the pistol grip was redesigned for better ergonomics and a magazine well cover was developed to prevent the ingress of foreign matter. The cyclic rate was also reduced in an effort to improve controllability. Approximately 5,000 units were produced, and were most often found on the Western front.

The FG-42 'G' has the following stats:

German 7.92mm Battle Rifle
Caliber: 7.92x57mm schwere Spitzegeschoss (a.k.a. 8mm Mauser)
Damage: 2d10
Critical: 20x2
Range Increment: 90'
Magazine: 20 Box
RoF: S,A
Restriction: Res (+2)
Purchase DC: 32 (Legally registered examples are very rare, and can go for as much as $80,000 on the open market)
Special: The FG-42 'G' comes with a folding bipod, integral bayonet and standard telescopic sight.

One of mine is the Tommy Gun (D20 past)
Advantages: Lots of firepower in a compact package...fully automatic.
Completely legal...in the 1920's
100 rounds...very rare to run out of ammunition. Rapid Reload for those times when you DO run out.

Need far shot (to compensate for the short range) and advanced firearms proficiency. Rapid shot helps, also, for that true hail of silver. Mine also has +1 distance...

And the biggest advantage...available in the mid 1920's.

My other favorite: 16"/50. When it absolutely, positively has to be turned into a crater. Needs exotic weapoin proficiency.

And for a more eccentric character, a .60 calliber double barreled black powder flintlock with 21st century high explosive armor piercing ammunition.

We have played that the 16" HC(13) shell does a standard 4d8 damage,
when it falls off a rack & squishes a guy. It does insanely more when armed, fired, & detonated. ;)

So do you play that if a mk7 16" HC(13) is 200d6,
will it be 200d6 +1d6 for Doubletap?

And does it still get just RI+10 & +2damage for the 16" Hollowpoint Boattail?
Does Glaser make safety slugs in 16" for home defense?

But come on, if we smoothebore it, would it be a 00000000000000Guage or will be go ahead and start using negative numbers for guage nomenclature?

It would be a .0025 gage shotgun. At the same proportions as a 12ga firing 00 buckshot, you would load it with 24-pounder cannon balls.

Wow.

FYI, Gauge for firearms is the number of lead balls of a given diameter that weighs one pound. IE, it takes 12 18mm lead balls to be 1lb.

Hehehe, with that thing, who says birdshot isn't effective against bad guys? . Lets see, you get something like 200 pellets in birdshot, right? That would still be each shot greater than half a pound, right? I don't know how many balls of 00 buck are in a 12-gauge.

Oldschool 12ga was 9 pellets
now we use the bigger stuff with 12 pellets... or more

look at the math this way:
how many pound per ball does it take to have 200 balls add up to 1900lb 16" projectile. The fun way would be to load it with 2000 m67frags.

what is worse, having a m67grag go off right next to you, or getting hit in the chest with an undetonated m67frag at 2500fps ?

just dont stat it under d20 Future Mecha rules,
or the muzzle fireball will reach past 2 nerfy RI's, and it will have just a 25' burst

Hmm... Can I have about a 10' by 8' by 1' of tank armor between the grenade and me?

For style, I like the Winchester 92 and mare's leg my western-themed 1930s pulp hero has, the GM and I agreed to pretend the .44-40 is identical to the .444 marlin. At level 11 or so, I run out of ammo really fast though. With the improved far shot feat from sniper, I get 180 foot range increments with the '92, and 60' with the mare's leg. The 21 MAS save for my attacks would also help, if I could just get my doubletaps to start doing decent damage.

I'll tip my hat to the G3, M4, and 1911. I'm not a big fan of low mass high velocity round, though, so I'd pass on the MP7. 5.56 is pretty much the smallest slug that I'm inclined to tolerate.

I like your last choice as well. It's a pity that shot guns get so gimped in d20.

Well, my first d20 Modern campaign involved heavy used of M82A2 rifle (actually, multiple M82A2s with HE ammo and rapid shot). The two PCs were 15 year old japanese girls (played by college freshmen boys) who abused Slight of Hand to sneak them into pretty much anywhere. They were quite deadly.

My next campaign involved MGLs loaded with frag grenades, silver frag grenades. This was after a small wolf problem (Exit 23), and they decided that grenades would be the easiest way to take care of any problem. I had to escalate with magic combined with gadgets. It was a harms race, and as we all know, nobody really wins a harms race.

For my next mercenary/special agent/wild card character, I'm going to go fairly robust. For the primary weapon, I'm going with an FN SCAR, with an USAS-12 and an MGL as backup primaries. For the sidearm, twin 1911s, with twin M9s and twin Mk 23 USSOCOM as backups. Then, as a tactical weapon, an XM500 AMR. All would be carried in Aluminum Travel Cases, with the specific weapon chosen at mission start. Also, extra magazine would be a must, some with special loads (though those would usually be kept in the travel cases). The SCAR is the USSOCOM M16/M4/M14/Mk. 29 replacement. The USAS-12 is an Auto-fire capable shotgun. The MGL is a six-shot rotary 40mm grenade launcher in use by the Marines in Iraq. The 1911 is the standard in sidearms. The M9 is the standard issue US military sidearm. The Mk. 23 USSOCOM, is well, the USSOCOM sidearm. The XM500 is a bullpup derivative of the M82/M107 AMR, and is lighter, shorter, and only slightly less accurate. A Mastercraft +3 Mesh Vest would be essential.

Per the official rules, shotguns are next to worthless.

And what do you mean by 'crowd control'? Riot police generally use less-lethal weapons against civic disturbances. They don't start spraying 7.62x51mm rounds into the crowd. That's 'crowd destruction', not 'crowd control'.

For real crowd control, you want to use area-effect less-lethal munitions, like tear gas or pepper gas. Then you throw in hundreds of guys in body armor with shields and batons.

Did you give them nike shoes & iPhones too?

For the cost of equipping that one guy, we could get a bunch of surplus rusty SKS & .38 special for a whole squad of mooks. Think like a villian, we dont have 401k & Dental for our $10000toys mooks, we have the unwashed masses that "Will Mook For Food". Legions are not expensive, unless you try to go crazy outfitting them. The villians dont get that equipment back when the mook dies.

@Belly I heard the A2 was worked over so that it was better than the L85/A1.

I would think the action jamming is more of a problem with construction than with design, neither the AR-18 nor the G36 have that kind of problem that I have heard of.

Irish-
that is a tough one to put real number to, how much 'HP' does an active fragmenting bullet do is very subjective.

But the numbers we do have say
4d6 for an entire pound of good explosives
and we know the whole projectile will be 1/8 to 1/10 pound
so if the slug was sitting net to us on the table & detonated, maybe 1d4?

But that has no take on how a HollowPoint is more damaging than a ball slug.
We also need to look at what you have done, if anything, to fix the 50BMG soe we can see what the scales of damage are in your campaign.

I haven't changed the damage scale, though so far, no one's run into anything more dangerous than a Great War vintage machine gun...and that, fired at their plane.

The explosive round isn't carrying a lot of explosive, but on a hit, it's exploding inside its target.

And you can get some big magazines for the .45, I know there are 20-rounders, even a 40 or 50 round drum, but I doubt the drum would be reliable, heard it is cheaply-made. Dunno about how good the 20s are.

And IC, if the guy is smaller, the grip on a 1911 might fit him better than a big double-stacker.

And yes, the 1911 does look awesome. There is just something about even the parkerized finish bog-standard version.

For crowd control, what would you guys propose? Are shotguns (ingame) good versus crowds? Wouldn't a G3 be better at that (still ingame)? A grenade launcher with gas grenades is of course preferable..

Depened on how "controled" you want the crowd.
M2HB stops it..animate dead makes it nicely controled. (My favorite gun leaves it in pieces too small to animate)

I think it was standard with 24 or something like that, but yeah, there are shorter versions, DSA sells some. I think that Kel-Tec's new bullpup has up to 31 or 32 inch barrels, for a 7.62, now that is a long barrel. Quigley's sharps had 34. Of course, the bullpup construction will make it noticeably less length.

M16A4 now, removable carry handle so you can mount red dots more easily, those are really popular from what I understand. Course, I think most people are using the M4s in the city combat, they don't want to deal with a full-length barrel in room-to room. Strange, I never heard of people using the Garand or M1 carbine complaining about them room-to-room in WW2.

Actually, I called it the "B" type m16
M4 should just be M16B, and whatever B versions they make, like M16B1 or M16B2. If this type doesnt rate the B, what are they holding B for?

M4 is just a set of ar15/m16 options & accessories. Choose a trigger group, barrel length & profile, stocks, the Flattop option... add a few rails... you want Forward Assist with that? Just 79 cents more

Just as putting a bulpup stock on a Ruger 10-22 doesnt make it a different gun. Nor does it become a different gun if you put a 24" Bull barrel with P-rails & thumbhole adjustable cheek stock on your 10-22. And it is still a 10-22 if you convert it to fullauto & slap a verticle front grip, folding stock, & rails all over it

Reciever.
You pretty much can say "Start with a Flattop, and make these slight changes." I mean, they mangled up the M16 upper for the foward assist, what M4 changes to the m16 frame come close to that amount of bashing. Especially to the lower, where we have seen trigger guts and pins come & go.

to be fair i thought the m4 was identical in every way to m16

They are extremely similar. The only non-obvious change would be that I think the gas tube is a little wider. Since the barrel is shorter, the gas vent is closer to the chamber, meaning it taps higher pressure gas. A wider gas tube would keep the gas the same pressure where it enters the action.

It also uses a different mount for the M203, but that is trivial.

So what changes a gun to be a different one in your opinion? Caliber? Receiver? Operation?

Good question.

Naming conventions are pretty arbitrary anyway. If H&K make the M16, the M4 probably would have been the M16C. If FN made the M16 the M4 would be the M16 Para.

I think the M4 is the M4 because it is considered a "Carbine", as a distinction from a "Rifle". Arbitrary, I know.

I would have named weapons based on the receiver. Receiver X is weapon Y, regardless of barrel or stock configuration.

I doubt the magazine had as much to do with it as did the soldiers being told they didn't have to clean the things.

Also, the original design had a chrome plated barrel and chamber. Chrome plating helps keep the gunpowder residue from sticking to the barrel and chamber, and I think it also lets the round slide in and out better. All in all, it's a good thing for reliability. It was vetoed late in development as an unnecessary expense.

Lots of life insurance policies were cashed in to keep from paying 50 bucks extra per rifle, and 5 bucks per cleaning kit.

Carbine models of rifles used to stay, like the M1E5 "Carbine" Garand with short barrel & folding stock. Check the Garand wiki for a look at some revsion & version numbers, including some pretty major changes of the gas system.

Here's one for those who like to be a bit more showy then practical; '

8 inch Colt Anaconda; Weapons Locker, page 19.

First of all, its an 8 inch anaconda... thats pretty funny. Second, its a very large pistol, which does make it more intimidating then some smaller guns. Because of the barrel being 8 inches instead of the regular 4 inches, the gun's range increment is 50 feet, so if it comes down to the side arm, you can rest assured your in better range then your opponent. Also, it is high quality, giving a +1 to accuracy. This is all for the price of PDC 17, the same price as the 4 inch Colt Anaconda.

As for accopmanying long arm, im not sure

Chromed parts resist corrosion better than bare metal. This is very important in humid areas like, say, Vietnam.

The problems with the original issue of the M16 arose from shortcuts and misinformation. The barrels and chambers were not chromed, the powder was changed to a cheaper, dirtier version, and the grunts weren't properly instructed in how and when to clean the weapons. The M16A1 pretty well fixed all that.

Oh, and don't forget the improved feed ramps on the M4. That really helped reliability.

On a related tangent, has anyone heard of 7.62x51 ammo softloaded to be closer to the 7.62x39mm range? If you make the rounds just powerful enough to reliably operate the action, wouldn't the weapon be easier to control in close encounters of the badguy kind?

Yes, the d20 Modern shotgun rules suck but I am a big fan of the visual.

a lot of people get mad at the damages of things like the .50 BMG, but i think shotguns are the real injustice. that's why in my games i modify the damages, increasing them by one die. after all, a 12-gauge shell within 30 ft will do as much damage as a 7.62 mm NATO round, and a 10-gauge within 30 ft will annihilate someone about as effectively as a .50 BMG.

as for my favorites? i know they're cheap and old-school, but i can never resist an Avtomat Kalishnikov Model 1947 (AK-47 for those who don't know) or it's variants. slap on a GL-25 grenade launcher and pack a CZ-75 for backup. i'll f*** up someone's s***.

105mm Wadcutters for paper targets?
We are talking some serious long range markmanship with this equipment.
Forget lobbing Sharps buffalo guns or Barret 50 for long range contests, roll up with a 57mm nylon tip boattail for the long shots.

And I dont care what those Ban idiots say,

Bright enough to boil water! Folks will show up to your shooting range, park downrange and ask when the movie starts.

The AK and the CZ sounds like a solid set up.

a lot of people get mad at the damages of things like the .50 BMG, but i think shotguns are the real injustice. that's why in my games i modify the damages, increasing them by one die. after all, a 12-gauge shell within 30 ft will do as much damage as a 7.62 mm NATO round, and a 10-gauge within 30 ft will annihilate someone about as effectively as a .50 BMG.

as for my favorites? i know they're cheap and old-school, but i can never resist an Avtomat Kalishnikov Model 1947 (AK-47 for those who don't know) or it's variants. slap on a GL-25 grenade launcher and pack a CZ-75 for backup. i'll f*** up someone's s***.

So, i thought i'd try to get this thread back on track if possible, not to say the discussion going on currently isn't interesting, or completely off topic. Anyways, i thought i'd toss in another weapon combination since i'm bored tonight.

I don't know why, but like the Beretta 93R with the folding stock and 20-round clip. So i decided to take my 93R and pair it with a none other than a trusty, old machete.

See, I dont follow the reasoning with the pistol mags.
I had a set where the 20rnd SW mags could be used to replace both the compact 12rnd sw469 & fullsize 15rnd sw5906.... meaning I would have (1) 12rnd in a gun, (1) 15rnd in a gun, & (2x twin) 20rnd spares that feed either gun.

Why does that guy have 2 shorty pistol mags?
Lets be real, after you blast thru an entire double collumn mag with your pistol, there is really no need to restrict the mag capacity of the reload. The stealth phase is over, and if you need more than that first mag, you probably need all you can get.

Yep. I carry a 20-round spare mag for my Beretta. My dad used to carry a G-26 with a 10-round mag in the gun, and a 32-round G18 mag as a spare. The spare mag weighed more than the gun.

And if you're packing a G-17 and G-26 at the same time, keep a 10-rounder in the 26 and a 17-rounder in the 17, and carry 32-rounders for spares for both weapons. You might as well.

In-game, if there were penalties to concealing guns with extended magazines, I could see having a spare short one for each gun, if it was a criminal game, or a rebels game, because you might not have time to reload the short mags, but you will want to have the gun hidden and loaded as you leave the area.

Well, I guess one round per magazine isn't time you are likely to have trouble sparing if your GM allows you to do stuff with your hands while running, but you never know.

Ok, that is extreme, but there are plenty of decent brush carbines that pop a 44mag out to 150-200m for use against mooks. Heck, they have steel rams at 200 for pistol competition with heavy 44mags

Yeah, the .44 revolver with a .44 levergun would work well, unless you were going to be worrying about recoil for the revolver. You could use .44 special, but then you just have two kinds of ammo that can both be used in the same gun, not one kind of ammo.

to be honest the same ammo isn't that great especially as most of the time you'll be lossing out to more dedicated types of weapons & ammo. sure you mite have a bit more ammo but if ya opponent is hitting you from 300m an you can't hit till 200m ammo's a mute point.

Fashion isn't difficult, no self-respecting modern hero would be seen without a trench coat and messy hairstyle.

edit: And, for those people really not worried about recoil in their matching-ammo weapons, get a .500 S&W carbine, I don't have any numbers, but I would guess about 8+1 shots, maybe 9+1 with a 20". I heard they push about 2200 FPS out of the carbine, about how long of an effective range would that have?

That makes me wonder, has anyone made a .460 carbine? The pistol at least would also be capable of using .45LC and .460, and I would guess it is possible to make the carbine take those as well, since there are .22 leverguns that take short, long, and LR.

I'm running a d20 campaign, and I have a group of bad-guys, paramilitary commandos, and I wanted to know what types of firearms they should have. For the standard Sidearm I gave them all HK USPs (They seem like good guns because of their modular design and their easy-to-upgrade construction.) Question is, what HK assault rifle would this paramilitary group use (since most groups stick with one weapons manufacturer, I figured this group would use HK assault riffles too.) Any suggestions on an effective, cheap, and good HK assault rifle?

Cheap and HK tend to not go together.

Closest I could think would be G3s, because they aren't used much anymore, they tend to be used in third world armies from what I know. Possibly HK33s or HK53s, which are like G3s in 5.56, but like I said, HK don't do cheap.

You are right, you are right, what I MEANT to say was "Do not suggest the G11." I know it is an awesome gun, but it is impossible to find, ridiculously expensive, and you'd have to make your own ammo (which would be far more expensive than normal ammo.)

Let me rephrase: In layman's terms, what are the differences between the HKG3, G33e, G41e, and G36? I don't want to have my low level PCs go up against 2d10 assault rifles, so would there be any non-game reason to chose the smaller G33e or G36 over the larger, deadler G3?

Recoil, ammo capacity, availability of the 5.56 (possibly), with the G36, the built-in optics would be an advantage. With the G36 there could be everything from the medics/engineers with 36Cs, close-range specialists with 36Ks, and standard grunts with the standard 36.

The G3 is the old standard, heavy, accurate, durable and (for HK) relatively cheap. There are millions of them around, and they last a long time. Hard to beat, but rather heavy for long patrols and a little long for close-quarter work.

The HK33 is basically a G3 scaled down to take the 5.56mm NATO cartridge. It was HK's first attempt to enter the small-caliber assault rifle market, and by all accounts was a decent gun, but too expensive compared to the AR-15 series. It's not often encountered today, but would make sense for a unit of mercs who had to buy stuff off the secondary market.

The G41 was HK's attempt to rectify some of the HK33's shortcomings. It included a forward bolt assist (similar to the AR-15) and a magazine well designed for NATO STANAG (STANdards AGreement) magazines (i.e. AR-15/M16 mags). Again, it was too expensive for most countries to adopt, and I don't think it ever hit mass production. This one would be pretty much impossible to field for a whole unit.

The G-36 is the latest rifle from HK. It's cheaper to make than the old roller-locked guns, and lighter weight. It's not as durable though, and small parts breakage is more common. However, it'd be harder for an unauthorized group to acquire, as they just aren't as common as the older G3 and HK33 models.

So, basically, you have three viable options:

1. The unit is poorly funded and/or deals with a lot of mid- to long-range fights, thus leading it to equip its forces with surplus G3s.

2. The unit is poorly or adequately funded and either needs only mid-range capability or has an easier time acquiring 5.56mm ammo than 7.62mm, thus leading it to equip its forces with surplus HK33s

3. The unit is well funded and well connected, with the ability to acquire newly-produced weapons. Such a unit may very well choose the G-36, though this would be far more likely with a European unit rather than an American unit, whose members would be more familiar with the AR-15/M16/M4 series of weapons.

Thanks for the info. This group is basically a secret, black ops "Ultra security force" for a company who does shady dealings. It also takes place in the future, so it wouldn't be impossible for them to have their hands on the G36, which is good (theoretically) because the price would come down. Also, because they tend to do most of their 'work' in urban environments, they may opt for the smaller, lighter Excess G33s for their durability, easier carrying use, and larger magazine. Thanks for the input guys!

You should also look into the HK53. It's basically an HK33 cut down to the size of an MP5. Very compact, very useful in close quarters. Though, pretty much every serious SWAT unit has traded them in for AR-pattern guns, if only because the ARs lend themselves towards mission-specific accessories so much better.

Thanks for the tip, I was using the Ultramodern Firearms book for stats and ideas, and so I missed the HK53 because it was in the "SMG" section instead of the 'assault rifle' section. (Though the 53 seems to blur the line between SMG and assault rifle) The 53 has nearly identical stats (a shorter range though) and is smaller and more compact, however, it is more expensive and does not feature an internal-mounted scope in the handle. I may stick with the 36 or 33e

On a side note, what do people feel about this group feel about my paramilitary nutjobs using the USP as a universal firearm? And are any of the HK longarms mentioned here easier to modify (or more durable) than others, so that I could stick with this HK versatility paradigm?

Well, none of them do the SCAR drop-in barrel or anything, as far as I know, but the G36 has more picatinny rails, at least on the 36c, which means they could easily be tricked out with red dots, fore-grips, flashlights, tactical bottle-openers, and breath mints. Well, maybe not breath mints, but there have been bottle openers on some guns. And the G36 looks more high-tech and somewhat futuristic. I think it has to do with the polymer body.

Re: the USP

The new HK45 is now on the market. Supposedly it corrects a lot of the ergonomic issues of the old USP, though at this point it only has a heinous double-action trigger.

You could also use the S&W M&P45, which is a pretty nice gun for a pretty nice price. Even with the cost of having someone like Bowie Tactical Custom do a trigger job and reliability package, the whole thing will come in under $800 or so. I'd own one if I had the money to spend on yet another .45 ;)

Hmm... Possibly a pistol could open one, probably with the exposed hammer (make sure the chamber is empty, you don't want any accidents). But I would say that the best way would be a knife, everyone should have one, jam the tip through the bottle top. After all, you should be drinking something strong enough to clean off and polish a knife blade.

but when distance is needed I like the good old barrett XM500 bullpup .50cal sniper rifle (with good scopes of course)

we called them "tora bora tompkinson" which is a reference to an "it" girl famous for getting drunk being stupidly rich and sleeping with anyone with half a buck to rub together.
army humor is the best :D

Well, back before Fun in the Sun One,
I just used the bottle opener I keep on my keychain next to the p38.... well, actually, I still have them on my keychain & use one or the other 10 or more times a week.

Its not a Firearm Combo,
but the keychain bottle opener & p38 is a tough pair to beat.

Quit eyeballin' my keys. Thats my Linus blanket.;)

Relying on just available thru wizards manuals I would say my perfered weapons are

Past

Tommy gun with Colt1911 or Trantor for back up

Modern era

ZM-LR 300 assult rifle or FN P90 (With more appropraite damage value)
and for back up the Springfield FBI 1911 or a .45 Megastar

Future

Charge Pistol and Gyrojet rifle

If we expand the pool of available weapons then I would like to add to the future catagory the H&K .45 SOCOM II+ pistol from Mongoose publishing's Soldier's Companion for the Armageddon:2089 d20.

My favourite is definitely the HKG11 from the Weapons Locker. It's a monstrosity of a gun that, as far as I can tell, in real life is a hazard to everyone standing around the shooter.

However, it's bonus on burst fire and mastercraft bonus is too good to be beat, add a huge (50 round) clip to the mixture, and you can do ridiculous damage every turn. Throw in High Explosive WP rounds from urban arcana and you have a Munchkin Cannon-- eventually, my peaceful charismatic hero became a bloodthirsty maniac because I was just looking for excuses to roll all that dice and hit MAS on every BBEG and genetic monster and such.

Good times.

Another really, really, really cool one: we had this character with a massive penalty to DEX and no BAB, and wasn't proficient in anything. The whole party got together to figure out how he could help in combat, and we came up with this: a pair of sawn-off shot guns dual wielded with those Dragon rounds from the weapons locker. All the penalties to hit in the world don't matter when its a reflex DC. Basically, we had a twin flamethrower-wielding 'combat' accountant. It was cool.

Dual wielded a pair of Colt M1911A1's with a Tauraus Raging Bull for long distance shots (my PC's a bit of a pistol fanatic). If I have to chose a long long arm, I usually go with a Mossberg 590 12ga with a rifled barrel.

Well, my current d20M game my character has an M14 he uses almost exclusively (3d10 double tap FTW), though he's got an M1911A1 for when he runs out of 7.62mm rounds.

One of the PCs in the Eberron game I'm running has a Minigun with a modified Quiver of Anariel as the "magazine" (The Quiver of Anariel was a magic item from one of the Drist books, I think, that produced infinite arrows that lasted one round). The half-giant of course does not need any other firearm (though he does have a pretty nasty deep crystal scimitar). And yes, I realize that Eberron normally doesn't have firearms, but I ran my PCs through the Mask of Diamond Tears adventure from Dungeon, and well, I've always wanted to mow down a bunch of PCs with a minigun (nearly killed the bard too).

I love M14s, and M1911A1s, you've got good taste. :P

We call those "John Woo magazines" in Modern.

A lot of people have been talking about the FN SCAR, and I was wondering if anyone has the D20 stats for them?

Mecha Weapons?
Like a pistol grip McHydra70-X "275" RocketPistol pod? (1hand Huge)
ripple2 for DTap 1.5x effect
ripple5 for burstfire 2x effect
or ripple7 to shoot 7 (10lb bombs) as 'pellets' for a shotgun effect

That makes a nice pistol to offset the firepower of the
Mc79 breakaction 120mm smoothbore McRifle (2hand Huge)
using just the museum ammo from the abrams, its still a spicy meatball
with pl6 and pl7 120mm active munitions, its pretty darn killy

both of course are using just pl5 current tech, more PLs will yeild more killful versions

If you are looking for a McCarbine,
Bofors McCarbine, 40mmx310 autocannon with a shoulder stock fitted
range increment is NOT just 40'.... ...I'm looking at you Warpath

Still looking for the doc but I remember that one was a 30/70mm Sniper/Assault Rifle for a Masamune Shirow style Power Armor with a single under-barrel Grenade Launcher that used a larger round.

I'd treat it exactly like every other 5.56mm (SCAR-L) or 7.62x51mm (SCAR-H) assault rifle in terms of damage, range, critical, size, magazine capacity, rate of fire, restriction, etc. The only real difference is that it is easily modifiable into a number of configurations, mainly by changing barrel lengths. Oh, and I'm sure FN is charging a princely sum for them.

Due to the lack of variety in d20 weapon stats, its pretty much just an expensive 2d8 rifle.

I personally love using the M14 with a bayonet attachment. With the bayonet, you can be quite versatile and take on people point-blank as well as medium-long range. Just...watch out for those shotgun guys...

I play in a game that doesn't allow it's players to just run around strapped with weapons, so I go with stuff that's easy to conceal.

A Glock 30, it's a compact Glock that fires the 45 caliber round. It grants a +2 bonus to conceal.

Damage 2d6, Critical 20, Range 30', ROF S, Mag 10 box, Size/Weight Small/2 lbs, P.DC 17(Lic.+1)

And I use a concealed push knife in my belt. +4 to conceal, can not be quick drawn.

Damage 1d4, Critical 20 x3, Size/Weight Tiny/.5lbs, P.DC 5 (–)

When I do get out in the wild and can just walk around with a weapon in the open I take my scoped Ruger Mini-14, with a composite stock that makes it lighter(Ultra modern firearms pg 110)

Damage 2d8, Critical 20, Range 90', ROF S, Mag 10 box, Size/Weight Large/5 lbs, P.DC 17 (Lic. +1)

If I could I think I'd just run around with a pair of Mac-10's instead. But I've only seen automatic weapons in the game twice, a midified tec-9, and an unreliable AK-47, stupid gang bangers having cool guns but not taking care of them.

My favourite is definitely the HK G11 from Weapons Locker. Between it's +1 MC bonus and only -2 on autofire (the only real way to get bonus damage with a gun), what's not to love? Throw on a laser sight and a grenade launcher or bayonet and you've got a death machine.

For a non-combat character (once I played an accountant), weapons that target reflex saves can be used without proficiency and no problem. My favourite is dual-wielding Reutech Protecta shotguns (Weapons Locker 154) loaded with dragon rounds (5x20 ft line of 2d6 fire in each hand? Lovely.) No attack roll is needed, so piling up the penalties (-4 nonproficiency, -6/-10 from two-weapon fighting) doesn't matter. Sure, it jams on a 1, but you can't have everything.
