Say a large character is weilding a firearm. How do you think the best way to go about stating the gun is?

should it
1)just use larger guns- carry a machine gun (huge weapon) like a human carries a rifle? seems a bit odd, because big as the gun is its desigined for a human to use (trigger size, handles, whatever)
2)upscale existing guns D&D style: like, take a Large firearm and make it Huge, increasing the damage accordingly. Then check the damage, find the caliber that does that damage, and go with that.
ex. a 9mm pistol (small) does 2d6 damage. scaling it up to size medium would make it do 2d8, or a .50AE, 5.56, etc. caliber. I don't care that the baretta doesnt come that big- the gun would be a)custom made and b)this particular campaign isn't on earth anyways, so we don't use earth brand names.

I guess I could do both- have guns specially designed for bigger characters but also let him "liberate" a pintle mount and go crazy with that.

any thoughts?

ps. obviously I won't allow him to use the Huge sized tank cannon or the like. dunno why they are size huge anyways.
