Gamma World and d20 Modern

I got in to GW d20 a little late in the game apparently.

I had decided to resurrect my old GW campaign and foolishly sought to convert it to D20 *(I was using 3rd edition, since I had converted it about oh, 15 or so years ago to that).

In any case, one of the issues I have is that after acquiring the GW version of the PWB I found that it failed to include any mechanics for creating basic characters. You had to have the d20 modern book to take a decent shot at it.

I have been running D20 Cthulhu (maybe I am the only one that is, but that is another story). The Cthulhu version is completely stand alone, you only need the one book to play. White Wolf billed GW d20's THREE rulebooks as following the format of AD&D 2.0 (Second Edition). Boy was I fooled, and doh, 4 years too late! They should have at least duplicated the basics, since they were LICENSED by WOC, RIGHT?

Anyway, I am setting about converting my characters to D20, hehe, oops, my old sheets only had a couple of stats, some mutations, etc... Now there is so much to do just to get a 'textbook' GW character. Arghh.....

I was hoping to pull this together by Conquest 2008, but am having some trepidations. I am thinking about going back to 3rd Edition rules just to save me the headache!

(Sorry, not sure if this is the right forum)

The last GW game I had was a boxed set.

I know that since WotC took over, GW was revived as part of the Alternity line. It could have been a part of the d20 Modern/d20 Future line. Who knows? WotC have a lot of TSR brand assets, including Star Frontier/Star Law, Star*Drive, and Gamma World. (Sorry but Buck Rogers is licensed from the Flint Dille Estate).

I'm not entirely sure I followed your post, but it sounds like your having trouble making Gamma World characters because you don't have d20 modern. If that is the case, you can just used the MSRD. It will have everything you need.

AFAIK, GW d20 were supposed to be supplements to WotC's rulebooks, as per the agreement between White Wolf and WotC.

I don't know where you get "Second Edition" from. The d20 System is spawned out of Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition.
